Museo Nacional del Prado

It was lovely. We didn't have a ton of time, and had just come off of a red-eye, but the Museum was lovely! Just know that if you get there and see a large line/queue before the ticket purchasing space, you do not NEED to wait if you have purchased tickets online. There is a separate entrance for that. There was never more than a few people entering from that area. The staff was wonderful and accommodating. If you are visiting and need a wheel chair, they will provide one.

The only issue is the WC, two out of three in men section are out of service, very small. You need to go early, I visited the museum around 3 and it was not too busy.

We took a tour of the Museum and we loved it. There was so much to look at but not enough time to do it. You would definitely need a full day to see it all (maybe longer). I would definitely recommend coming to it if you're into art work. They also have a lot of books about the art work which we did buy some.

Save time for this visit as it is a very big collection. No that much waiting time for getting tickets and admission, rooms are spacious, dispose time for visiting all floors. Masters and paintings from a variety of schools. Its a must if you visit Madrid.

The museum is not far from the city center and is easily accessible by foot or with public transportation. This museum is huge and you could spend an entire week in it and still not have seen everything. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. If you just want a glimpse of the museum or have the time to visit on several days, the entrace is free everyday from Monday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays and on holidays. Apart from a few rooms, it's not allowed to take pictures.

Gorgeous museum, spent half of my day here, beautiful parks to walk around outside, reasonably priced, and lots of art! Definitely recommend visiting while you’re in Madrid!

The Prado has an wonderful collection of fine art from Spanish masters like Goya and Velasquez to El Greco and Bosch. Don't forget to save some museum time for the The Black Paintings. I highly recommend going on a tour to see this museum. *NOTE - you cannot take photographs inside the museum

I had the privillege to visit Prado Museum for the first time. The place is super big. I bought the ticket on the spot and queue for a while for €15. You can visit the museum for free if you are local at 2 hours before its closed (6-8 pm). The direction signage of the museum is not very clear. One of the entrances is exactly above the ticket booth area. The museum is divided into rooms, based on the artists. It will be helpful if there is a summary of the direction in front of the stairs. I felt a bit overwhelmed with the number of the paintings shown here. It is super a lot!! The paintings are beautiful. I cannot finish the whole rooms, even I didn’t have chance to go to planta -1 I definitely will come back when it is a free time slot. You cannot take picture inside. But, make sure you explore the merchandise shop. They have very very nice selection. Definitely one of the places to visit when you are in Madrid!

Great museum! We went for the Goya and the collection did not disappoint. The last 2 hours of the day, the museum is free to enter. You will still have to reserve tickets (at no cost) to get in even if you go at the end of the day. It's best to reserve them online ahead of time so you can get the earliest spot for the free hours. There is also a gorgeous cathedral across the street that is beautiful at night!

Classical art. Lots of it. Lovely visit but preferred Thysssen and Reina Sofia with their range of art styles and artists across the ages. Free tickets can run out especially on Sunday. Useful tip: collect free tickets earlier on the day of your visit (opens at 10) so no need to queue,nor any chance of disappointment. Also avoids large queues at 6pm (final photo).

Wonderful museum, you need a full day journey or even too days to really enjoy the large variety of paintings and sculptures. No pictures is aloud inside, we really liked it, so everyone is there to really see art.

Excellent collection of artwork. The museum is home to a 7500 paintings, 8000 of drawings and 1000 sculptures. It is open everyday from 10 AM till 8 PM (on Sunday until 7 PM). The entrance fee is 15 euro (guided tour costs 35 euro). But what is worth to know is that after 6 PM (5 PM on Sunday) the entrance is free of charge. Pity that taking photos inside the museum is strictly prohibited.

I arrived at 11am on a Monday, and the line was already long; do consider booking ticket online. There’s no wifi at all in the museum, also no photos allowed. Wonderful Spanish paintings from 1400 to 1800; lots artists were working for the Spanish Royal families. I was in National Gallery of London, and Musée d’Orsay in Paris, both were with great wifi and no restrictions on interior photos; they should consider updating and changing their policies.

What an incredible museum. My husband and I selected to purchase the art walk pass which gave us access to three museums in Madrid. The Prado was the last of three included in the package ticket. It also gave us “skip the line” which was helpful for when we arrived the line was around the block in the full sun and heat. Pro tips: if you only have one day and 3-4 hours at best, try to dedicate your time toward the artists you appreciate the most. We loved the top floor which featured many contemporary artwork that included Roman mythology through the eyes of contemporary Spanish artists. Amazing!

I went here after doing some acid in the park. I highly recommend it. Great fun for the whole family. Particularly the Hieronymus Bosch exhibition was both a window into my own soul and it's many desires, as well as a mirror that allowed me to cast my gaze back and see myself for the true being that i am. Good bathroom facilities also.

I’m a big fan of Spanish artists like Goya and Velasquez, and since I was little I dreamed about seeing the real painting Las Meninas. So this was an out of the world experience for me and may be I’m a little biased in my opinion but I truly loved the experience. The only thing I can say is that they don’t allow to take pictures (I managed to take a few) and the attitude of the employees is not very kind. But being there is an amazing experience. If you to Madrid you need to visit.

Probably the first museum I've ever been to where I was impressed all the way! Renaissance artwork is extremely different and there's so much more details. Can't find a lot of this type of artwork in Chicago's museums, at least. Really enjoyed my time at the Prado! Since my bf is an artist and was more attentive to detail, we spent close to 2 hours to get through the whole museum. Highly recommend you buy tickets in advance because there was a long queue that we were able to avoid! Pictures are not allowed in the exhibits FYI!

I recommend to buy tickets online as it can be crowded if you will not come early. The paintings are amazing but you can't take videos or photos which is ashame if you want to record your memories here. But you can buy a guide book when you buy a ticket. I advice to go to 0 level first because most of the older paintings are located there.

The best art museum I've been to in a very long time. A wonderful variety of work, and so many rooms it more than justifies the entrance price (€15) - although the free hours are 6-8 in the evening, which I would have taken advantage of if I'd been in Madrid a day longer. Don't miss Goya's Black Paintings - I've never seen anything like them.

It's a wonderful place. We saw works by Rubens, Titian, Velázquez, Goya, El Greco and others including one lonely Picasso. Also some wonderful religious iconography. It may have been 39°c outside but inside it was heaven. The cafe was pretty good as well. Even our pet cat, Lucky Lime, enjoyed himself.

Although less popular than other museums in Europe, the Prado is by far the best painting collection in Western Europe. This comment is based in the quality of its masterpieces, its great curation, and the intimacy you enjoy while navigating its corridors. It is free everyday after 6 pm, yet, I suggest to go on a weekday between 4-6 pm (I know, you have to pay), but that way you avoid the crowds of school trips and the crowds willing to catch the Prado for free. If you have several days in Madrid, another option would be visiting by parts a couple of days after 6 pm.

Went there on a Sunday early afternoon at it wasn’t very crowded. Still, the more famous paintings were hard to see. Buy a ticket online to avoid the queues especially on a hot day. The museum is pretty well organized. You will need a while in there if you want to see everything. We spent about 3 hours without looking into detail. The Goya collection is very good and interesting, so if you don’t have enough time skip straight to it. No pictures and videos in the rooms.

The museum has some of the most incredible and iconic paintings in European history. I can see why it’s one of the must visit art museums in Spain and in Europe as a whole. I really liked Las Meninas by Velazquez, it’s seriously such a unique perspective. I also liked Goya’s paintings. El Greco has some works here as well. It goes to show how over history Spanish painters have made impressive works of art that can stand on its own. I also liked Peter Paul Rubens works in the Grand Hall. There is also a painting from Juan Luna, a national artist from the Philippines. The layout is very clean, and I especially loved coming a second time around 16:00-17:00 on a January weekday when I had halls to myself. There’s a good reason why it’s popular as well if you come on a weekend or a holiday, it’s seriously an impressive space.

Just an unforgettable experience, near the botanic garden. You loose yourself in the beauty and the story that Goya and Velazquez, among others artists. The paints, the status the magnificent tables. All treasures that teach us and show us from where we've come. Of course 1 time it's not enough to see everything in detail at least for me. I will return to complete my tour. We bought the tickets online and that saved us a lot of time. There is no longer at the entrance. Tickets are 15 euros per person. We spent more than 4 hours inside and that was in a hurry. Don't go here for less than 2 hours, it's huge. There are a lot of beautiful art pieces. Photographing is not allowed. This is one of the best museums I've visited in the world. Big recommendation.

I am not a fan of the Renaissance, but the collection was well displayed and the galleries large and filled with light. Saw all of the must sees and enjoyed it. Don't miss the Bosch room. Dude was off the rails. Buy tickets in advance or you will wait on line for hours.

A really great collection, well organised and presented. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a standout but the museum is stuffed with other gems: Vasquezes, several El Grecos, Bruegels, Raphaels and Goyas. It’s the latter whose work really steals the show. Either his May 3rd masterpiece or the room dedicated to his ‘black paintings’ are worth the admission alone. The top floor seemed somewhat incomplete and placing the shop in the middle of the basement floor seems a bit peculiar but otherwise this was up there with the finest of fine art galleries in major cities. Shame you can’t take photos at all!

It is okay. Many of the pictures are very samey, there are hundreds of portrait pictures in there. It is a great museum but I think perhaps people set the expectations too high for it. If you are here for multiple days, I would recommend perhaps spacing it out over several days during the free hours from 6:00 to close at 8PM. You still have to reserve your free ticket online. You're not allowed to take pictures but I was able to take these before they told me no.

Stands shoulder to shoulder with the louvre, don’t miss Goya’s dark collection and las meninas .. you have to be really sneaky to take photos because it’s not allowed (baffles me why!!)

This museum is extensive. One could spend days exploring all of the art here. The rooms are very well displayed, setting the mood for special exhibits. The gift shop is well stocked with unique items as well as standard gift shop wares. The cafeteria has lots of choices, including four course meals. It is a bit pricy though. If you visit Madrid don't miss the Prada Museum.

This magnificent museum contains some of the most recognizable and most all inspiring works of art to be found anywhere in the whole world. Here you will find works by Goya, Velasquez, Rembrandt, Renoir, and all of the other famous painters that you can name. The attendance in the wardrobe are a little rude because they only allow one item to be stored per party, which makes no sense. Try to consolidate your belongings before you approach the wardrobe. There are also no photos allowed in the museum. Pictures on the gallery walls suggest that there might be an audio guide but we could not find one in the museum or online, which is a shame.

I was particularly delighted with this museum, it has a wide variety of artistic movements and loved seeing the Meninas. It was deeply fascinating, the composition and expression of the characters was unique. In this museum you’ll find Saturno, The Garden of Earthly Delights, The annunciation and more!! 100% recommend visiting when in Madrid. Totally worth it.
