Fantastic place to visit for holiday. The Australian Museum has free general entry although some specific shows do cost money. It's easy to go around and take your time to see everything. Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No … More

Free entrance except for the shark display. It's an interesting place if you're into wildlife and nature. All of the exhibits here had descriptions and some even had touch and feel features. Especially loved the dino exhibit. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No … More

We have been visiting this museum once every year since our son turns two. Every visit, the kid is excited. And we feel his improvement each year. We visited on weekends and it is not crowded at all. Most of all, the general entry is free. Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Yes … More

Went to visit the minerals exhibition after hearing about it on Facebook ad, it was so worth it , all family enjoyed it and we ended up visiting so many exhibitions within the museum. It was all free entry. What a great great time to spend the day.

It's a fantastic museum with a lot to see and explore. We went on a Saturday, so definitely a very busy time to go with lots of families and little children. There looks to be a whole dedicated area for children to discover. Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No … More

Was wonderful to bring the kids to the museum during the school holidays. The shark exhibit was worth the entry fee charged, though it was quite busy mid morning when we entered. The other exhibits are well pieced together, and really enjoyed the display of minerals. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait … More

The Shark exhibit was great and informative, although I don’t think it’s worth $29 especially that I went there without the immersive shark experience, I think the prices should be lower to go when there’s no immersive experience. The rest of the museum is great, I enjoyed the rare exhibits about Australian history. There’s a lot of interactive things especially for kids.

The museum is huge and has different exhibits at different times - it might be ancient Egypt, live exhibit (with reptiles, bugs and spiders), an exhibit on minerals- or even dinosaurs built out of Lego bricks! There are also the regular museum that is occasionally free to enter which has fossils of dinosaurs, preserved / taxidermied wild life, skeletons, cultural exhibits displaying First nations craft, history like the first Antarctic expedition and recently added 200 treasures. There is also a cafe, members lounge and giftshop on premises. There is also a night time experience for adults.

I visited the museum with free entry, not an exhibition. It is a beautiful, spacious museum, with a fair number of exhibits. The museum without the exhibition was about 1.5-2 hours of interest for me. The most interesting exhibits are without doubt those of the first peoples. It is obvious in retrospect, but I hadn't realised, that because much of the history of the first peoples was handed down by word of mouth it has been lost. It is likely much of the lost history was due to generations where maintaining the heritage was certainly not encouraged, and was likely actively discouraged. Despite that the displays are fascinating and often exquisite. I was surprised at the poor lighting for some of the larger displays where I don't believe light damage would have been an issue, but I may be mistaken on that point. The opportunity to donate by cash or card is incredibly discrete, but I always donate to museums which are free to enter and there is a single donation point at the exit.

The Australian Museum is now a world-class destination now that it's been brought up to date and has expanded exhibition space. Plenty to see, discover, learn and enjoy. One visit wasn't enough. We saw the Sharks paid exhibition and it was very good. Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait … More

A constantly updating and evolving museum. I remember coming here as a child and it's so different now when taking my own kids. Lots of fond memories. The new crystal exhibit is spectacular!!! There's a great activity space for kids too, and always a good limited-time special exhibit to check out every few months.

The museum is basically free, but there might be special exhibition where you need to purchase tickets. The collection size is pretty massive, so you could enjoy several hours seeing the collections.

This is one of the most comprehensive museums I've visited in the world. I spent hours wandering around the impressive, informative and blissfully cool displays. Not know a great deal about the indigenous people of Australia it was heart breaking to read about how these people were treated in past times. But equally it was heart warming to see the respect they are given within the museum. The insights into their beliefs and way of life gave me a respect for these people who seemed to have been forgotten by history. The diversity too within the museum was fantastic. One area you are looking a dinosaurs bones or a mock autopsy of a t-rex and the next reading about influencal people in Australian history. A wonderful time and highly recommended

A fixture in Sydney the museum has recently undergone an extensive renewal with new exhibition spaces, upgraded food and beverage offering and a new Members Lounge. Membership is well worth buying as it gives access to the quiet oasis of the lounge and also gives you express entry and tickets to visiting exhibits. If you're a local or visiting, add this to your planned itinerary.

Great experience and extremely suitable for both children and adults. They have a huge collection of different exhibits. A collection of Australian birds, a collection of dinasours and their history and many other exibits that show different aspects of indegenous culture. You can also plan your lunch at their level 4 restaurant with a spectacular view of the Sydney harbor.

We love Australian Museum! Extremely family-friendly. Dinosaurs gallery is our favourite! The museum also has play area for kids (they change play area theme I think every quarter or so which is great). A must visit when you are in Sydney!

A beautifully curated museum showcasing a variety of natural and man made wonders. The permanent exhibit about Indigenous Australians is deeply moving and masterfully displayed. Their dinosaur exhibit is incredible, hands down one of the best I've ever seen. Anyone with a few hours in Sydney should make a point to come here!

A great museam to visit for all ages. The exhibits are well presented and informative, even though some of the stuffed critters look a bit comical.

The Australian Museum is in the heart of Sydney CBD and from my understanding is quite old and heritage listed. We hadn’t visited before and had specifically come to show the kids the Brickman Jurassic World Lego display. We were not disappointed! The staff at the museum were helpful and friendly, bar one who seemed to be having a bad day. Overall we had a fun day and the adults had just as much fun, if not more, than the kids.

The museum has some genuinely rare and special exhibits. It's collection of preserved Australian birds is impressive, for example. I'm not a fan of its occasional mixing of natural history with anthropological objects, but this approach isn't taken too often thankfully. The building is a fine venue for an intriguing and worthwhile series of collections.

Went specifically for the Lego exhibit and became members. It's a fantastic museum of Natural history and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. There seems to be a great deal more exhibits from our last visit pre COVID and it's lovely to be back to explore and see new. Members lounge was also a great way to rest before we entered the Lego exhibit. Good coffee/hot chocolate machine and lots of variety of teas. Highly recommend.

It's been quite a while since my last visit, and how much this Sydney icon has changed......for the better! So a couple of years ago, they spent over $50m in a revamp. Modernising the interiors, adding lecture rooms, modern facilities, and a very large bistro. Best of all, the general entry fee has been dropped. (I've always felt that museums and galleries should be free for general admission). There are new displays focusing on Indigenous Peoples, this is a large part of the revamp. Fascinating examples of Pacific Islander masks and head dresses are a highlight. A very gory dinosaur autopsy will delight the young boys and girls I'm sure!

Fantastic experience! Wonderful staff wonderful informant and displays! We loved it so much we went twice, second time was on the weekend and the kids where a bit hectic. Ran over some feet and almost ran over some kids in my wheelchair. Unsure if we missed a sign, but both times we had to drive around the block to find accessible street parking. That would be my only let down for the place. The lack of parking.

Australian Museum has always been a family favourite, with so many wonderful displays and interactive features. The little children run around from huge dinosaur displays, to sit down science experiments. There's definitely a full day of exploring to be done here, best advice is be early and expect a long day.

went to the australian museum for the first time yesterday with one of the main goals to attend the unsettled exhibition to educate myself on Jan 26, survival day, rather than "celebrate australia day." as i explored the museum more afterwards, they also had on some other incredible exhibitions and the collections they have here are amazing! the layout of this museum is awesome. it makes the exhibitions all the more exciting. such an amazing experience, can't believe i hadn't been here before!

Really amazed by the quality and how well everything is presented. This Museum was closed for renovations and you can see that they really thought about the new layout. You can learn so much about Australia but also other cultures and animals, it's a good blend of many topics but not overwhelming. It's a comfortable visit for a few hours and the kind place you would easily revisit to find more detail. Give yourself enough and equal time to make sure you see each of the main sections. That said maybe pick the main thing you want to see first, for example Dinosaurs. I'm definitely keen to go again! There is a cafe, drinking fountains, friendly staff and clean toilets.

Great museum to discover the natural environment and culture of Australia. Please note the building is undergoing renovations until the end of 2022, so a significant number of exibitals are not open.

Truly enjoyed the 'Unsettled' exhibition on how the First Nation peoples lived in this continent for about 30,000 years. You will also learn about the recent history of Australia including the massacre. I strongly recommend this powerful exhibition. There is also the best photographer of the year exhibition - The Australian Geographic Nature. That was fascinating too!

My husband & I caught the train to Town Hall station to get to the Australian Museum & found it a very easy 7-8 min walk, through a beautiful park. We hadn't visited for probably 10+ years and recent renovations are of the highest standard. The exhibits such as the Dinosaurs, were World Class and we enjoyed every second of the 2hours there. Although have to say, the Cafe was way too noisy with all the young children & school kids playing in and around the venue. Our 2nd favourite exhibit, is the current Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year 2021! We would highly recommend this also free display & I will not add any photos (apart from the entrance to it) in respect of the Artists, as my photos do none of them justice 10/10

A great place for everyone to visit to learn more about Australia, it's history and nature in general. From thought-provoking exhibits and annual exhibitions to more permanent galleries celebrating Australia and it's unique heritage , history and wildlife + a funky gift-shop with carefully curated items as momento's of your trip; this is one day out you will not forget. Extremely recommended.
