Expérience fantastique: Pity that part of the exposition wasn't translated into English

Expérience fantastique: San Telmo Museum, or STM is a museum addressing old and contemporary Basque culture, arts and history in a European, global context. It moved to its current location in 1932, Zuloaga plaza in the old town, at the foot of the hill Urgull. It occupies a former Dominican monastery complemented by a 21st century extension. San Telmo Museum has culminated a process of renewal and extension required to reach out to the public in this new 21st century. The keystone to this project is the small architectonic "gem" incrusted in Mount Urgull and designed by the architects Nieto & Sobejano, featuring a characteristic facade covered in plants. This new building, along with the 16th century Dominican convent housing the museum since 1932, made San Telmo a singular spot located right in the centre of San Sebastian, in the Old Town. From Tu-sat (10 am-6pm) close Mon(except Bank holydays).

Expérience fantastique: Really nice museum. Much bigger on the inside than you would expect, and everything is really well done. You wouldn't expect a museum this nice from a city this small, but here it is!

Expérience fantastique: We where impressed with the curation of the temporary exhibition The Longest Journey about the Magellan expedition (which had many Basque participants) They did a great job of conveying the mood on the journey, even though they couldn't rely much on artifacts. As with all museums I saw in Spain it was unfortunately lacking in showing the consequences to the people and land the Spanish "discovered" and colonized.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful museum with outstanding architecture, thoughtfully laid out and well articulated exhibits. Especially enjoyed the insights into women painters in Spanish history.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful and enormous museum, full of information about the history and culture of Basques. If you download the app, you can listen to the guide by scanning the QR code on every part of the exposition. There is also a lot of videos along the route, and a stunning multimedial presentation in the church.

Expérience fantastique: Le musée, installé dans un ancien couvent, est impressionnant par son ampleur et sa portée. On sent vraiment la passion pour la culture et l'histoire basques. Incroyable aussi que l'entrée soit gratuite le mardi.

Expérience fantastique: This is one of my favorite museams ever... It was composed very well, and tells a great story of the Basque region from prehistoric to contemporary times. The architecture is a fresh combination of old and new, and the restored murals of the basilica are breathtaking.

Expérience fantastique: A museum and, at the same time, as a place to disseminate knowledge and create thought; it is an instrument to understand the present and build the future from encounters with the past and with our roots. In 2011, a major makeover of its facilities took place by adding an extension to the convent and reshaping its facilities along the lines of its new conceptual approach as a museum of the Basque society and citizenship.

Expérience fantastique: This is really good. Main exhibit is about Basque culture and is very extensive. Had a secondary exhibition about robots and that was thought provoking. The building itself (former monastery) is beautiful inside and what was the church is breathtaking.

Expérience fantastique: This is the local museum with a very entertaining ethnographic collection about the Basques. The building's architecture is also interesting with an eclectic mixture of the classical and the modern. To finish the visit we went to the cafeteria where we had surprisingly excellent pintxos, especially their Spanish omelette, made at the moment was one of the best I've tried.

Expérience fantastique: I visited this museum after the Guggenheim at Bilbao & found it a lot more fascinating!!! An exposition on death was fascinating, albeit a bit dark with the attire on show. All permanent exhibitions were fascinating, with information on the Basque history. A classical art room is also good. Housed in an converted convent, the building is also glorious. A must see!

Expérience fantastique: I enjoyed my time during my visit here. The range and quality of the exhibits were broad and it was truly a treat to get an opportunity to see this Museum. The staff was helpful and informed me thoroughly about what to expect. Best part is I just happened to stumble upon it as I was walking around. It's worth checking out and is also affordable and worth the admission. Thanks for the wonderful experience.

Expérience fantastique: It's amazing, such a surprising museum. You should go all up stairs they have a worth to see collection.

Expérience fantastique: Started with a temporary exhibition about death, which was interesting as much as it was positively eerie. Went on to the permanent exhibition, housed in the convent -- it starts with a very well made projection show with one of the most enthusiastic and polite guides I've seen. It moves on to the chronological picture of the history of the Basque country. All of this should take around 3 hours for both exhibitions. There was another temporary exhibition about a famous contemporary Basque cook but it felt a bit like masturbatory publicity at points, however brilliant he might be. Was still fun to see, however, as it talks about new Basque cuisine and his notorious influence on bringing it to the limelight!

Expérience fantastique: This is a really interesting regional museum. I went there on a very wet and cold day and found myself genuinely interested and engaged for around four hours. The ticket covers readmission on the day and the cafe has an offer of a pinxos and a small.drink.for two euros with your admission ticket. The museum is a Basque museum but it also has a galley with its historic art collection which includes a Rubens sketch and a Tintoretto.

Expérience fantastique: Having been to the museum in Bilbao about basque heritage, I was skeptical about visiting this museum as well. How wrong was I! The museum had a temporarily exhibition about mythology and a graphic novel, both really well layout and explained! The place is brilliantly organised. Most information is in Spanish, French, Basque and English. When panels were only in Basque or spanish, the audio guide gave background info in English. There was a good balance between video/audio and reading panels. I really enjoyed reading about the art, history and culture of the basque region and how it developed over the ages. I was really taken aback, heart warmed when watching a video showing a lady talking about her experience around 1938. Amazing museum for young children and old, very educational.

Expérience fantastique: A fascinating museum. Combing the old and the new and using technology, video and masterful lighting makes for a great educational experience. It’s a must visit if you wanna learn about the Basques.

Expérience fantastique: For only €6 adult entry you get to view some amazing art and learn about the history of the Basque region. A good place to while away a couple of hours in the heat of the day. You don't pay extra for any special displays, it's all included in the fee. The coffee shop is nicely separate from the museum so you don't have that waft of coffee following you around. Toilets are clean and functional.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing museum we were there for 3hours and could have stayed longer. Interactive exhibits, English translations via audio remote which was very enjoyable and easy to use. Great history and story telling regarding the basque country. Highly recommended.

Expérience fantastique: A lovely surprise. Beautiful building that was a convent in 6th century. Both the permanent display of local Basque history and the visiting exhibit from The Prada were so worth seeing. Highly recommend. Walk through the old town before or after and also visit the cathedral, you wont regret it.

Expérience fantastique: San Telmo Museum is a great place to visit when in San Sebastian. It gives a very clear and interesting history of the area with lots of artifacts and displays. There is also a beautiful old church in the museum with stunning tapestries. We really enjoyed the free audio-guide however there is plenty of English to read for those who go without.
