I have been to the exhibition of Rudi van de Windt, 16th century for Alkmaar, Victory and the Bergen School. Spent hours watching and reading. Nice stories! Nice to find out how important Alkmaar has been for the emergence of the current Netherlands.

Expérience fantastique: The eye-catcher in the month of July 2022 was "De Vaandeldrager" by Rembrandt van Rijn and the painting of the same name by Alkmaar's greatest painter Caesar van Everdingen. Nice museum in the heart of Alkmaar. Work by painters from Alkmaar about the Golden Age in Alkmaar. The exhibition Siege of Alkmaar in 1573. Painters of the Bergen School. In addition to paintings, furniture, silver and glassware can also be seen.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful museum, I found the exhibition of Rudy van de Wint fascinating, especially with the podcast, you got a good picture of him and his work. I thought the film about de Nollen and his story was sublime. I had never heard of him, but I will not soon forget him. I thought the exhibition about the Siege of Alkmaar was wonderful. I come from Haarlem, but now I know more about the Siege of Alkmaar than about Haarlem.

Expérience fantastique: Various tours from different points of view. You get to know the story behind the artists and the paintings: A travel story about strength during the Alkmaar Onzet, acquired power in the Golden Age hall and a search for inspiration in the hall of the Bergen School.

Expérience fantastique: Nice staff. Beautiful building. The art and exhibition was very nice to look at. As an Alkmaarder who was born on October 8, I had never been here before, but I thought it was very worthwhile.

Expérience fantastique: The museum has a beautiful exhibition about the history of Alkmaar. In addition, the museum has an interesting mix of modern and classical art. It is also very large and has enough space to keep one and a half meters away from people.

Expérience fantastique: Back to 1573 with the Alkmaar Relief, a lively exhibition about the victory of the Alkmaarders over the Spaniards. The Spanish soldier told a lively story and made life at that time insightful for many. A nice exhibition and certainly an invitation for a next visit to the permanent collection.

Expérience positive: Musume has good measurement of COVID-19. The staff is friendly. It’s worth for EUR 12 to visit the museum and it’s very interesting to see the past of 15-16 centuries how Alkmaar fought with Spanish and got rich because of the trading. Worth to visit ;)

Expérience fantastique: A very complete collection for such a small museum! Worth coming back every time there is a new exhibition. The permanent and interactive exhibit about the Siege of Alkmaar is super interesting!

Expérience fantastique: I highly recommend this museum. For just 12€ for a family card you're getting a lot... There are art galleries with changing subjects, very well done, a permanent exhibition of the "Bergense School" (expressionism), one about how Alkmaar developed from ten farms to a city of 100,000 citizens and about Alkmaar's golden age. But the best, in my opinion, was the exhibition about the spanish siege. This was brilliant... Along a red line you're guided through history accompanied by small, very well made video clips (dubbed in English) combined with exhibits. So you learn how the people of Alkmaar made Spanish to dismiss their siege. I've never seen anything similar before, very entertaining and a must see. Last but not least, the staff was very helpful. **** Update 2019 **** However, two years later I had to pay the double price (24€) for two adults and two children (11+9). I don't know if it was a special offer two years ago, but the price remains reasonable, especially if compared to the museums of Amsterdam.

Expérience fantastique: A gem opposite the Grote Kerk, since five years under a roof in a light, contemporary accommodation, designed by Meccanoo Architects. The museum is the Memory of the City: from the exciting-narrative presentation about the Siege of Alkmaar (do it!) To an exuberant, crowded room where you can see everything and everything: from militia pieces from the Golden Age to Rudi Carell "s Golden Rose, from Karin Bloemen to AZ, it is all about looking and discovering. On the first floor there is ample attention for the Bergen School, Dutch expressionism from the early 20th century. This summer also herman de vries: 'for your feet' or how children from North Holland primary schools contributed to a beautiful conceptual and, above all, tangible representation of the land of herman (and all of us) .Beautiful building, nice restaurant, price level quite high.

Expérience fantastique: Municipal museum is worth the effort. The story of Alkmaar is presented beautifully, both digitally and with numerous pieces. During our visit also other beautiful exhibitions

Expérience positive: Lovely museum! If you’re interested to learn a hit more about Alkmaar’s history, hit “De Victorie” gallery first - fun and interactive history of one of the founding moments of Alkmaar. Upstairs you can find the “Alkmaar Prachtstad” gallery, which features various important moments from the city’s past and present including a cool graphic design and fun movies and interactives. Art history more your thing? “Alkmaar and the Golden Age” is a gallery with some gorgeous 17th century paintings, and there’s also modern/contemporary art from the Bergen School of painting. The café has original and very tasty food, the shop is mainly books.

Expérience fantastique: lots of information about the Alkmaar vistory against the Spaniards during the indipendence war

Expérience fantastique: What an amazing museum! Three in one; a permanent exhibition of excellent quality, by painters of the 'Bergense School'. Another permanent but more historically themed exhibition of the victory of Alkmaar city over the Spanish invasion in 1573, a turning point in Dutch history and for me a revelation, somehow explaining the calm Stoic, quietly determined nature of the inhabitants of Noord-Holland. And then a temporary exhibition, nicely curated, with some more interesting paintings. I had a lovely afternoon and will be back! Highly recommended!
