Expérience fantastique: I love this place. You can feel the whole world here. They have artefacts from different parts of the world. You would love it.

Expérience fantastique: One of the museums that I had visited like more than 10 times. Worth a visit if you are into anthropology / ethnology / sociology or art related subjects.

Expérience fantastique: Used to love this museum as a kid and now uts even better. Could spend the whole day here learning about different cultures and far away nations. If you don't have the chance to travel but still want to learn about the world and its people come visit this museum. And I have to make a special mention of the big screens with the most beautiful photos projected on them, I almost felt guilty for not just sitting down and watch the whole sideshow.

Expérience fantastique: Great exhibitions, really interesting and comprehensive information in Dutch and English on almost every piece. We especially enjoyed the Native American rooms.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing museum. You get the idea how every part of the world lived in the same time period. And they combined the past with the present.

Peter van Emburg 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Superb exhibitions in terms of objects, lighting, textual representations, explanation, spatiousness in display, etc. As a mild criticism, the technical level of civilizations could receive some additional expert specification and analysis, connecting more strongly to the present time. That is, spice exhibitions with some relevant STEM.

Expérience fantastique: Went to this Museum with my wife and loved it. Very nice special exhibition on Aztecs, and the regular exhibition on various cultures around the world was so nicely done and explained. Bravo! Afterwards took a stroll through the old centre of Leiden. Parking at walking distance very convenient.

Expérience fantastique: A lot of interesting things to see! I loved the images from Peru and the Haka video from NZ!

Expérience fantastique: I was here in December 2015 for the first time in my life, and was flabbergasted about the wealth of displays. Pity I ran out of power due to the fact I already had spent a lot of time in another museum, otherwise I could have published ten times as many pictures. Beautiful!

Expérience fantastique: Visited the museum again, this time for the exhibition on the Aztecs, once again a great experience!

Expérience fantastique: A must for all who want to learn more about the history of the world. We as 'Western World' are far from being the first civalitation. There is a lot to be learned from the art of lost civalitations. Not only history, but also for creating new art.

Expérience fantastique: Awesome Museum, one of the best I have been, kids loved it as well. It is very well structured, digital and interactive. The Aztek Exhibition was amazing. I learnt a lot.

Expérience fantastique: The staff are very friendly and helpful. It's a wonderful museum to visit. I was here during the Aztec exposition which was a sheer delight. They have WiFi which is quite helpful if you're a tourist. There's a cloakroom with lockers where you leave your handbags and are provided tokens to lock them in. There's a lovely play place for the kids and a small cafe. Quite centrally located and right opposite the bus and train stations and central Rotterdam.

Expérience fantastique: This is a great museum! Great variety of history about numerous religions. Loads of items and information from Australia, Korea, China, Indonesia, America and other African/Asian countries. 10/10 will go again.

Expérience fantastique: wow this place is great!!! So much to do and see, I don't even know where to start. So many different cultures, so many artifacts. It was displayed in a perfectly classy way. They really did justice to those that owned the items so long ago. Can't wait for the next visit.

Expérience fantastique: Beautifully renovated museum. We had a great time. Kids friendly activities. Due to Covid online reservations needed. Not crowded. You will have seen most of the museum in 2,5 - 3 hours.

Robin Irwin 3 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Compared to the Tropical museum in Amsterdam, this is the better museum on Anthropology. It focuses on indigenous cultures of all parts of the world. The items shown have additional information on its use on touchscreens in various languages. It is very kids friendly. It is a great museum with selective items with unique social and historic value. You can easily spend 2 hours here to discover all the unique items in the collection.

Expérience fantastique: If you want to go for a cultural trip around the globe but can't really afford it, this museum is for you. A lovely collection of artifacts, paintings, sculptures, clothing and audiovisuals to transport you to Asia, Australia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Make some time and do not rush your visit: spend a good morning or afternoon to appreciate the cultural heritage of each country on display.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing objects brought from all over the world. I enjoyed all the little details, looking at these marvellous objects. Def going back there, because 1.5 hours that we had was not enough!

Trond Ivar Hansen 3 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Well worth visiting. Not only is it interesting from an ethnological point of view, but many of the objects are also outstanding art objects. It´s all well presented, although some objects might be too dimly lit (I understand they need to be protected from light, but details were sometimes hard to see in the dark, behind reflective glass). The staff was friendly and nice to talk to. For me the size of the place was just perfect.

Expérience fantastique: Great exhibition on Bali and general state of exotic lands. Easily spend a day here. Fun for all ages. Great interactive installations.

Expérience fantastique: This is my favourite local museum. The exhibits are nicely 'portioned', so you can just take a little trip to Japan and Korea for the afternoon and return for Australia another day. The cafe is very spacious and offers plenty of options and the shop is one of my go-to places for great gifts.

Expérience fantastique: Very nice and modern museum based in an old building. The collection was varied and very well presented. The restrooms are plentiful and very clean. The cafe is very nice and roomy and has a wide variety of food and drink.

Expérience fantastique: The museum has rich collections of artefacts from around the world. Pavilions dedicated to Indonesia, Oceania were the best. The best place to understand different ethnic groups, and how their relationship with the nature has evolved. A must visit for any art-culture buff.

Expérience fantastique: Great place to learn about other cultures and ways of life. Great collection of artifacts from around the world, masterfully presented. Wonderful workshops for children to learn about native customs and skills. Prepare at least 3 hours to fully experience the museum. Close to the train station so you can visit from cities close-by.

Expérience fantastique: Excellent museum with collections from all around the world. The kid section could be improve or even integrate a more dynamic sections for them. Nonetheless, it is a very nice museum and a ‘must see’ if you go to Leiden.

Expérience fantastique: I just love this place. Goede tentoonstellingen. Gevarieerd. Well presented. I visited this museum regularly from as early as 1973. Used to study in their library as a student, sometimes. Wrote some of my best essays in that quiet environment. I do have to get used to the diff e rent lay-out since renovation, though.

Leo Pi 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Very spacious, lots of interesting pieces from all around the world! Especially loved the background music typical to the exhibits culture in each room. I see that it is made on purpose, but nevertheless the lighting in almost all rooms is way too dark in my opinion.

Expérience fantastique: Really good museum, great collections with amazing items. If you are interested and read most of the descriptions, you will need 4 or 5 hours. Worth it.

Geneviève Petitclerc 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Great museum! I got there like an hour before it closed so I didn't get to see a lot, just the special exhibition. You can definitely take the whole day to take the time to visit the whole thing.

Expérience fantastique: Lovely Ethnology museum that reminds me of Musee du quai Branly near the Eiffel tower in Paris. This museum covers 8 regions: Indonesia, Asia, and Africa on the ground floor; and Middle & South America, North America and North Pole area, Japan and Korea, China, and Oceania on the first floor. Very modern, pleasant, and interactive museum. User friendly, the doors open automatically and also the lights around the exhibitions work on motion sensors. I recommend this museum to anyone in the area interested in a good 2+ hour visit while learning about a variety of cultures.

Expérience fantastique: Extensive collection of cultural artifacts from all over the world. It’s exiting to browse through the cultural history of a multitude of different ethnicities. The museum‘s café is spacious and comfortable as well. Plan in more than 2 hours to have sufficient time to see everything. The guy at the ticket shelter was very helpful to explain all the different section and inform about the structure of the museum and how to navigate through it, overall a lovely stay

Expérience fantastique: Close to the central train station in Leiden, Netherlands, this beautiful museum is housed in a historic building with canals on two sides. The museum features exhibits from 8 different cultural regions and has permanent as well as regularly changing objects of interest. There is an area within the museum that is especially designed for children with interactive exhibits.

Expérience fantastique: A lovely museum, with very rare artefacts. If You are in Netherlands for a year I would recommend getting a museum kaart (60€ adult, 33€ student), which enables You to visit a wide spectrum of museums all across Netherlands. I have been here on the COOL JAPAN exposition, and it was very interesting, and unexpected. The curator combined ancient and contemporary art in a well put together way. Looking forward for a new exposition.
