Expérience fantastique: Despite it's small size, this museum tells a complete story of the hominid occupation of this region of the Iberian Peninsula. You'll see prehistoric stone tools just a few feet away from a Latin-engraved Roman altar. Definitely worth checking out.

Expérience fantastique: Small but very nice. It has very interesting exhibits. I recommend the visit

Expérience fantastique: A very complete museum to remember the different human evolutionary stages. All the exhibits are very well chosen. The museum itself is a modern and very well-kept building. The attention is perfect.

Expérience fantastique: It was very good, we were able to discover the history of the Basque Country from the arrival of the first men until recent times. All in Spanish or Basque on the information panels but with a book in French and an audio guide on the internet.

Expérience fantastique: I thought this was a really well thought out museum. It took us 45 minutes- quite small. The interpretation is only in the Basque language and Spanish, but my Spanish was good enough to understand it. It told a clear narrative of the people of the local region in prehisric times, from hunter gatherers, through bronze and iron ages and finally up to Roman times in the region. Well explained, clear text, pictures and plenty of interesting artefacts.

Expérience fantastique: A museum of ten. I went in out of curiosity and ended up fascinated. It shows that there is an investment in it. Highly recommended and super interesting.

Expérience fantastique: An extraordinary museum! It's a travel in the time from Neanderthals to present. Congrats!

Expérience fantastique: Lovely museum! It's quite small, but highly organized and with a number of cool features (informative panels, miniature models, VR sessions, videos etc.). Loads of interest information, and not only a bunch of apparently meaningless items scattered across different displays (as often times happen in museums). The galleries are very well-organized and lead the visitor through a clear and joyful journey across prehistory, bronze age, iron age, roman era, Middle and Modern Ages, with a greater focus on antiquity (i.e., pre middle ages). It has a focus on Basque Country / Cantábria regions, but you can also learn a lot about general western European prehistory and history, since glances into their relationship with the rest of the continent are also shown and explained. It's amazing value for the ticket price (€3,50 by this date, and even cheaper for teachers, students etc.). All contents are presented in both Euskera and Spanish, with some of them in English as well. If you can't understand Spanish or Euskera, your experience will be much less interesting, I suppose, so be aware of that.

Expérience fantastique: Fantastic museum to learn about our history, with fantastic pieces and very good explanations

Leire Beneitez (Lele) 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: Archaeological museum in my opinion very complete, the exhibition is not very big, but it is more than enough for me. To compensate they have an excellent informative and educational work! Unfortunately the explanations are not in English, but they do have an audio guide. They treated us very well too.

Expérience fantastique: I share images of this museum, it is small but charming. The visit is short but very interactive. During the visit you can see videos and all the digital information available to learn in detail about each piece on display. General admission costs €3.50 and if you are a student or teacher you can count on a discount. Tickets can be obtained the same day. I leave you some photos to encourage you to meet him.

Expérience fantastique: 100% recommendable, you learn a lot and the workshops they do for children are very good.

Expérience fantastique: Very interesting museum. A good collection of archaeological remains. A permanent collection worth visiting. A very interesting temporary exhibition. A personal guide for exceptional visits. A must see in Bilbao.

Andres Bedia 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: It is a modern museum, created thirteen years ago in the old Lezama train station (which was closed in the early 1980s). The museum is located at the foot of the Calzadas de Mallona that leave Plaza Unamuno in the Casco Viejo and go up to the Begoña neighborhood. The building has three floors for exhibitions. On the upper floor, the oldest collections are located (with pieces dating back 75,000 years) up to the Roman period. On the second floor is the part corresponding to the Middle Ages where there are the remains of a wreck of a ship about twelve meters long that was used for trading. On the first floor is the reception and a room for temporary exhibitions (when we visited it was about the finds on Hadrian's Wall in Scotland).

Expérience fantastique: A small but very entertaining museum. Admission is cheap and they give discounts to students, unemployed, young people, retirees... For the price of a beer you have a few hours of Culture! I would only remove the Gregorian music on the first floor.

Expérience fantastique: A very central museum, tiny but very complete and educational with a lot of curiosities, a very affordable ticket and the most friendly staff! And right next to the stairs that lead to the viewpoint of the cemetery and a lot of shops!

Expérience fantastique: A Museum that will surprise you! Although from the outside it looks like an old building without more, the interior facilities are all modernized with a lot of interactivity with the visitor. You will be able to learn a lot about the origins of the Basque country and Bilbao. We were surprised and we loved it!

Expérience fantastique: Curious street, walking through the streets of Bilbao we found ourselves here by chance and we saw various tours so it was a shame not to find out about its history since it is sure to be very interesting. To the side of the stairs there is an alley that seems to be many years old.

Expérience fantastique: A museum that presents very well-made, visual and complete pieces and explanations. It is an essential visit to Bilbao to learn about the prehistory and history of the area of Biscay, in particular, and the rest of the Basque Country.

Expérience fantastique: A museum with excellent content, very interesting and very well explained. Cheap for everything it teaches, it also has a very good, quiet atmosphere and is not crowded. If you have a backpack or jacket, it has free lockers and hangers that you can use without problems. The bathroom is also very neat and clean.

Expérience fantastique: One of the liveliest and busiest squares in Bilbao is the Plaza Miguel Unamuno, where among other attractions is the Archaeological Museum. It is very easy to locate because it is in the middle of a wide staircase in a four-story building with a gabled roof. Worth a visit.

Paula Molina 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I 100% recommend a visit to this museum, it has two floors full of interesting things, from the parts of a ship, to complete skeletons or very very old weapons and coins, who likes history or simply likes to visually take a walk through the past, you will not regret going to this museum !!

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful and well-planted archeological museum in Bilbao.

Arkaitz Carbajo 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Highly recommended to meet and learn more about the people, fauna and flora that have inhabited Bizkaia and its surroundings since Prehistory. The museum is great, very accessible and with activities for children that are as educational as they are fun. The price, location and content make it a must see.

Samuel Koquis 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: The museum tour experience is very dynamic, which for me was very rewarding. You have an audio guide before starting, which, on the 2nd floor of the museum, is a bit confusing at first. But then it gets easy. In addition, the different screens with additional visual resources during the tour help you better understand each of the pieces.

Expérience fantastique: Very well organised interactive museum showing the major steps of the Basque country development. Really recommend for foreigners. All information is given in Basque or Catalan, but don't be shy to ask for a free English journal with explanation of the main objects of the exposition at the reception! Then it will be amazing 2-4 hours of your life!

Expérience fantastique: Good treatment of the staff. A place I haven't been to for a long time and I really liked. To the children too.

Expérience fantastique: The Archaeological Museum (Arkeologi Museoa), inaugurated its current headquarters in 2008 and aims to spread knowledge of the history of the territory, connecting the past with today's society. The two-story exhibition area shows the history of Bizkaia through the traces left by its inhabitants from prehistoric times to recent times. Another of the purposes of this museum is to guarantee the deposit, conservation and restoration of archaeological materials. Not surprisingly, its collections are made up of all the objects from excavations carried out in Bizkaia.

Expérience fantastique: Very interesting and well kept museum. Cheap and takes around one hour. The exhibition signs/labels aren't in English but you're given a guide book for free to take around. Very cool virtual reality section that lets you explore the caves where paintings were done.

Expérience fantastique: Small museum but very well used. The virtual visit to the three caves was a hoot.

Expérience fantastique: Fantastic museum! It is small, so you can easily see everything. It is very well organized and the illustrations are very interesting and explanatory. They incorporate pieces with explanations and archaeological methodology in a fluid and didactic way, and have virtual reality to explore a beautiful cave. Highly recommended, cheap and friendly staff.

Expérience fantastique: Very good Archaeological Museum, at the provincial level, with explanatory panels in three languages and explanatory touch screens. Excellent location just off the Unamuno Metro, above the old Lezama train station. Very good treatment of staff.

Expérience fantastique: Highly recommended, the exhibitions are in Spanish and Basque, and they even have virtual reality glasses to show details and more information about the caves. Staff very nice and attentive. It caught us on a rainy day and it was a very good choice.

Expérience fantastique: Highly recommended for lovers of history. Do not miss it if you pass through Bilbao!

Sira Prats 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: It is an old building equipped with all kinds of facilities. The exhibition consisted at that time of three floors, if I remember correctly; pretty central. At the entrance there is a security man, very friendly, and at the reception, on the second floor, I was attended by a super nice girl where she explained the order in which I had to visit the exhibition. A clean place, tidy with ambient music. A point against is that it was very hot, maybe it needed a little air conditioning. The exhibition itself is seen in a couple of hours (in my case) Next to the building there are several terraces to have a drink if you want after the visit! Highly recommended.

Ana Belén Jaén 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: It is a small museum but with 2 floors and very complete. For very little cost you have full access and you can download an app for the mobile that will serve as an audio guide. My brothers and I love going to the museums of the cities we visited and this was very interesting with the explanations from the Paleolithic era in the Bilbao area. It closes at 14:00 at least in summer

Em Arguson 4 years ago

Expérience positive: The museum is very near the metro. The descriptions are all in Castellano and Euskera but they offer an English book for non-spanish speakers. The line to try the VR experience is very long though, we were not able to try it. Tiger exhibit includes English explainations.

Clemente Lara Grane 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: It is the archaeological museum of the city. It is in the old town. To enter you have to climb a few steps. We liked it a lot. The facade looks a bit ugly. You can take photos, without flash, of course. The entrance cost me € 3.50. There are photos that by humanity should not be taken (I did not take): 2 human skulls and 2 human skeletons. Inside there is 1 elevator. -

Expérience fantastique: Small museum where interesting archaeological remains from Prehistory, the Ancient Age and the Middle Ages found in the territory of Bizkaia are shown. Utensils from prehistory, Roman coins and inscriptions, remains of Basque weapons and burials of Frankish influence, funerary stelae from the Middle Ages and the wreck of a medieval ship.

Jörg Dietrich 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: The square in front of the museum invites you to linger, especially in the evening hours. Typical Spanish flair can be enjoyed here.

amaia basarrate 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I think it's a very good museum. The history of the exhibited pieces is very well told and quite concise, not only on the panels, but on the touch screens of each room. I have not participated in their activities, but, as they explain, they must also be very good.
