Expérience fantastique: Small but coisy place with some history of the silk

Ardak Shubina 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: A small museum of the weaving art of Valencia. It was interesting to see samples of fabrics from the Roman era. A 19th century loom with punched cards is striking in its complexity! We can say that this is a programmable machine! No less interesting is the technology of dyeing threads in the early Middle Ages.

Expérience positive: Very enjoyable museum geared more towards adults. Interesting sections on where European silk industry started and they start their story in 550AD however with little to no mention of the Chinese industry for thousands of years before it. This link to China in itself is a fascinating story with Silk road etc and should perhaps be included. No mention of the ethical issues around silk and the worms, which also should be mentioned especially in a museum context. Staff really helpful. Don't mix this place up with the Silk Exchange like we did (La Lonja de la Seda) which is 10min away. 8 euro entry for adults and has nice courtyard cafe with Aircon fans

Expérience fantastique: Very informative museum about silk production and its importance for the city of Valencia. Helpful audio guides (currently you use a QR code on your phone to access them— I do not recall if the museum had wifi for tourists without an international data plan). As other reviewers mention, there are live demonstrations of the looms and other production methods.

Expérience fantastique: Experience the uphold traditions, of silk processing and manufacturing in Valencia; the once world capital of the art of fine silk manufacturing. Enjoy a refreshing drink in it's garden, during, before or after you view the collection. Make sure to go up the stairs to experience the library collection.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful museum with fascinating details about silk production, great orientation materials and an amazing inner courtyard where you can eat a three course lunch if so inclined. Well worth a visit. Be aware mobile coverage is not great inside the exhibition halls so English speakers may be challenged by the audio download. However there is lots of information displayed in English. A gem!

Expérience fantastique: It was interesting to learn about the development of the textile industry in Spain and Valencia through thick and thin, with a focus on silk. I was very captivated by the history and various spinning techniques, and the industry dynamic shape-ups over time. English texts were available 90% on the first floor and 70% on the second floor. Great accompanied audio guides as well.

Expérience fantastique: The Silk Museum and College, a totally forgotten activity in the Valencian Community, had its moments of splendor between the 15th and 18th centuries, the highest quality fabrics, velvets, silks...suffered great deterioration and this building was in ruins until a meticulous restoration. We can contemplate; the Archive, very important to know everything that this trade contributed to the City of Valencia for centuries, a room where the old printing techniques and the different periods are shown, with samples of fabrics and costumes, an exhibition halls (the day I went from Japanese Kimonos) in which a spiral staircase of Gothic origin has appeared, and some magnificent ceramic floors. And finally the workshops, where the manual machinery where the fabrics were made, the patio / garden with a cafeteria / restaurant, and a shop where items related to the world of silk are sold.

Expérience fantastique: This place had what seemed like the entire history of pottery and ceramics, some beautiful paintings, and the furnishings of a Marquess. Totally worth the price of admission.

Expérience fantastique: Beautifully laid out and a true testament to the valuable contribution silk made to the region. The items for sale have some affordable items amongst the hugely priced ones.

Expérience fantastique: So lovely to learn about the history of textiles in Spain. The silk museum is well done, very informative. It is a relatively brief tour, I would say 1 hour is more than sufficient. You get to see a giant loom and see old garments and learn about the process from silk worm to final product. They also have a beautiful gift shop with silk products created by current students.

Expérience fantastique: Very good, use the audio guide to get the best out of the Silk experience. Top value when used with the €10 ticket that includes the church of Saint John and the church of San Nicolas

Expérience fantastique: Unexpectedly great visit. I highly recommend to get the 3-museams ticket, which includes the amazing Saint Nicholas church and the Juanes one tickets. Also, you should carry your own earphones in order to attend the audio guides (web page based), they enrich a lot the visits for sure. Pretty interesting to see how important the Silk market was in Valencia in the ancient world, part of the Silk Road.

Expérience positive: Really liked this Museum, I studied Fashion so it was most interesting for me. However the way the Silk industry effected the Valencia culture and traditions is the main topic and can see wonderful clothing creations full of color and prints and a very detailed description on Audio Headphones supplied by the museum when you enter.
