Expérience fantastique: I love art. I especially love portrait art and religious art, and this didn't disappoint. It wasn't huge, but I bet I spent 90 minutes looking at it all. This was a well curated museum for a fair price.

Expérience fantastique: Definitely had a great experience at this place. Coming from New England, where there are lots of museums in NYC, this place doesn’t disappoint. They have a wide variety of art work from different cultures ranging from Europe to Asia. They also cover different forms of art work (not just paintings) including porcelains, sculptures and others. No food or drink, no backpacks are allowed in the museum. They have coat check to cover all the personal belongings including buckets for flowers :) the staff there were also very friendly. Tickets are reasonably priced as well. A good place to visit if you’re a fan of arts or if you’re visiting Seattle on a rainy day. Note that the museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

Expérience fantastique: We are so fortunate to have the Seattle Art Museum in our city. The Giacometti exhibit was fantastic. It featured a wide range of his works from studies, drawings and paintings to sculptures across his entire career. It was artfully displayed and beautifully curated. While the museum is not expansive, the collections and special exhibits are always rich, interesting and worthwhile.

Expérience fantastique: I had a great time visiting on the Free Museum Day! You go in and get a free ticket at the entrance and there are exhibits in the upper two floors. The first floor is mostly modern art, the second has a lot more art from other cultures and eras. Some exhibits I liked more than others but it was cool seeing everything. I loved the porcelain room! It's not huge, I go through museums quickly too so I was only there 30-45 mins but you could def stay longer if you look at things more. I don't think I'd pay regular price to come back but def recommend on a free museum day or with free library passes. It's right by the University St link stop which is convenient too!

Expérience fantastique: I missed visiting SAM during the pandemic. Our recent visit was a nice reminder of everything I like about the museum. The timed tickets were easy to book in advance, and also to get an extra one when we got there. Not too crowded. Check out the Giacometti exhibit while it’s in town!

Expérience fantastique: I recommend becoming a member as the exhibition price is a tough pill to swallow. I enjoy dropping by the museum to spend an hour browsing around. I'm a former employee and glad to see the galleries looking so good. The Rineke Dijkstra's were a lovely surprise, too. Also, the sue of white buttresses (?) to keep your feet back from a particular work are a great idea and way better than the low black cordage used before, which just seemed more of a hazard than barrier. Kudos to the guards for being present but not intrusive.

Expérience fantastique: The Seattle Are Museum (SAM) is a great museum. With multiple locations (Downtown Seattle, and Capitol Hill Seattle Asian Art Museum) they are a wonderful steward of the fine arts. Cultural and indigenous art, classical art, modern art, and some things that defy categorization, they commit themselves to bringing the best the world has to offer to the city of Seattle.

Expérience fantastique: Lovely world class museum. Exceptional representation of decolonized art spaces, and also just heart-piercingly beautiful art. Loved the special exhibit on view during my visit (Giacometti) and the Modern and Contemporary gallery was fantastic. But the Aboriginal Australian dot art was far and away my favorite. What excellent and important work to highlight! Can’t wait to come again.

Expérience fantastique: We had little ones in our group and they loved the Giacometti exhibit, especially the dog, of course. The kids' packet was super fun and they were very engaged in trying to find the art featured in the photos. The most memorable art piece was the giant rat. They couldn't stop talking about it on the way home. Thank you SAM for a wonderful family outing!

Expérience fantastique: We visited the SAM to see the Monet at the Etretat exhibit. What a great experience! 7-27-2022. Visited again. What a joy!

Travis Wise 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: Not the biggest art museum around, but it does have some of the most interesting pieces - including very old pieces from 3,000 B.C., and paintings from the 1500's. Very well curated! Parking in the building is convenient and cheaper with validation from the museum.

Expérience fantastique: We loved the water exhibit and how it was deeply honest about the harm our environments and societies face to our water systems, diverse view points regarding water, and yet not without hope for making change

Expérience fantastique: I really enjoyed my Sunday at this museum. I've been to art museums all over the US and internationally. The SAM is a really well curated collection of modern and contemporary, as well as local artists, classic and Renaissance, and indigenous art. It's not so big that you get exhausted, but has a wonderful variety of styles. The staff was very polite, professional and helpful with both SAM content and Seattle recommendations. I really enjoyed looking at local work and the gift shop has a lot of great options.

Expérience fantastique: Seattle Art Museum is on the smaller side, but it still has plenty of art to see. I take my time in museums and try to see everything. Still, it only took maybe an hour and a half to see all of this museum’s collections. The most stunning part of the museum, for me, was the Porcelain Room. Here plates and vases are displayed nontraditionally without labels next to each of them. Rather than displaying the porcelain in sections based on date, location, and manufacturer, the room is instead organized by color. This approach lets you focus on the aesthetics of the porcelain without getting too caught up in history. I loved how the curators designed this!

Expérience positive: The entry cost is usually US$30 however the first Thursday of every month is free, with the exception of special exhibits. It's not a huge museum but does have quite diverse subject matter and is very well presented. I was a little disappointed in the Japanese wrapping exhibition as it was quite small and lacking in insight. Pleased to spend an hour or so here but US$30 does seem a bit steep. The museum shop in the basement is good if you want to pick up some gifts.

Expérience fantastique: Went this weekend on a school field trip and it was a great experience! The students had an amazing time looking at all the amazing artwork. There are a lot of hidden passages that were easy to miss. We were able to leave off our drinks, bags, and not worry about out things getting lost. I will say the only thing I wish I had seen was maybe an Aztec/Hispanic artwork area, other than that it was all very culturally inclusive.

Expérience fantastique: Fabulous world class collection. Everything from aboriginal art to French Impressionism. Friendly staff. Well worth the entrance fee.

Expérience fantastique: I went on a Sunday with a ticket I'd bought online (save by buying online, you don't need to print the ticket, you can simply show the image on your phone). If you let yourself sit with different pieces and absorb them you'll find a piece or two that truely sits with you. Three such pieces are attached here. Truely worth a stop. You can't bring in a backpack, or any drinks including water, so bring a purse or anything else you may need.

Expérience fantastique: WHY HAVEN’T I CAME SOONER. This place is filled with things I’ve only seen on tv and to see them up close and be able to stand in front of things that people worked on thousands of years ago is really awe inspiring and I was so lucky to see it with some of the best people on the world and I hope you all take some hours out of your day and be inspired to see things for the beauty they are!!

Expérience fantastique: The exhibits are wonderful and it is a great place to visit on a rainy and windy day. Learned a lot.

Expérience fantastique: It's a shame to visit Seattle and don't go to SAM. I was very impressed by artists whose work was displayed. The only disappointment is that you have to pay extra to get into Monet exhibit and see only the not even half less then half of his work. But you know what again no regrets. Favorite part fine china exhibit

Oleksii Motorykin 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I am not the art person, but my wife insisted :) The museum is an interesting combination of real art (from before) and modern "art". Save 2hr for a visit (not including special exhibitions).

Brad Wright 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: This is a beautiful museum with works both from indigenous cultures as well as areas across the world. The exhibits are excellent and the museum store give you an hour eternity to take a little bit with you when you leave. I would definitely recommend if you’re ever in Seattle. Worth a trip.

Expérience fantastique: I traveled through or to Seattle often and always try to make time for the SAM! On a November 2020 trip I observed the difference post covid-19 and limited occupancy, cafe closed. Still a wonderful museum of temporary and collective exhibits. Please take time to support our museums and local businesses <3 .

Expérience fantastique: Make sure to have the best shoes ever cause you'll be doing a lot of walking around. Alot to see and so much things to do, it will take your breath away. I've had a blast and enjoy every moment. I wish I could give it more than a 5 star rating cause it was that great. Keep it fun to learn everyday, everyone.

Expérience fantastique: I've been to many art museums across Europe to which I compare those in the US unfairly.. but this one was really nice! Lots of genres of paintings with one contemporary section where the art work was made from paper cut outs. So original I totally loved it. The indigenous artwork was also amazing. Worth the 20 bucks to visit while in Seattle. Plan for atleast 2 hours at a steady pace.

Expérience fantastique: Just joined wit a membership for only $99 for two. Enjoyed the Monet exhibit and had some fun enjoying other exhibits. We can go all we want for a year, even special events. If you live anywhere near Seattle, we are in Everett, this is a must.

Juan Gerardo 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I enjoyed my visit at SAM. Enough permanent exhibitions to keep you busy for 2 + hours. The European collection happened to be my favorite. It was sizable enough to impress and leave you feeling satisfied. Some of the contemporary exhibitions were enjoyable as well. It is suggested donation for general admission. The ticket counter won’t tell you that tho, at least that was my case. When I brought up the suggested donation they allowed me to donate what I wanted in exchange for admission. I definitely would return.

Expérience fantastique: A wonderful experience. We went through some of the exhibits rather quickly, but it is easy to spend a long time here reading all of the signs. There was a good variety of art, from sculptures to paintings to Dracme... there are many different kinds of art here which provides a good variety. It was quiet and easy to read and see all the exhibits. Plenty of space to walk around, and it was not at all crowded. I would happily go again.

Casey Thornton 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Awesome art museum! A few of the rooms are currently empty but the Monet exhibit is definitely worth the visit! Wasn’t crowded at all on a Sunday afternoon. Great way to kill a few hours or if you’re looking to escape the Seattle heat right now.

Expérience fantastique: Pretty cool art museum. They have some great pieces and exhibits. Very very interesting to read all about each section and piece of artwork in it. We went earlier in the morning and there was not many people which was kinda nice. The Native American section was my favorite, although I do wish it were larger.

Expérience fantastique: The SAM has a fantastic collection of both local and global art. The floorplan is so extensive that it's impossible yo see everything in one day, especially when you could stand in front of any one of the displays for way way way longer than you actually will. See something you like? Read the plaque. Hold in your imagination the artist who poured their soul into that painting, that sculpture, that carving. Give it more than the two seconds you give to a photo on some stranger's Instagram. Stop and stare, it's worth your time.

Michael Macnab 2 years ago

Expérience fantastique: The main galleries at the SAM are great, showcasing culture from all parts of the world. I especially liked the modern exhibits as well as the Greek and Egyptian. The special exhibit area featuring Monet was fantastic. The curator has done an amazing job not only presenting key paintings but also related works from other artists that culminated in the final masterpieces. Special case room, painted in dark purple, had phenomenal lighting shining spotlights on each work. Brilliantly done

Expérience fantastique: Clean, organized. Good collection. Close to downtown and puke place. Parking offered at lot with entrance from union st between 1st and 2nd that is 8 dollars for 4 hrs with voucher, which is not a bad deal for downtown Seattle. Great exhibition on Monet at Etretat going on now.

Sebastian Banica 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Very nice museum to visit. It has a lot of different exhibitions from different cultures: African, Ancient Greece/Egypt, European and many more. It's a must go if you like art. Also their pieces from Japan are beautiful and worth seeing. I'll gladly recommend it to others and for sure I'll visit again when they'll open the next Special exhibition.

Christina Beebe 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful museum! One great perk is that it's based on a donation system, so to get in you pick how much money you'd like to donate for your entry fee. I think that's brilliant and offers a great service to those who can't afford to pay $30 to go through an educational museum. Beautiful artwork and wonderful staff. Very clean and very well put together. Great colors, great information!

Expérience fantastique: Free on the first Thursday of every month. Special exhibits are not free. A wonderful spacious and great variation of exhibits. Very convenient location just nearby Pike place market. WiFi available. Bag drops available. I easily spent more than 2 hours here, around 3 hours. Very enjoyable.
