Expérience fantastique: such an amazing museum!! works till 9 pm (went there on a Friday) and the entrance is free for students with student IDs, no matter physical or digital. the exhibitions were great, and we were also impressed by the museum shop: good prices, many discounts, useful stuff, as well as free tote bags for any purchase highly recommend, and we'll come back!

Expérience positive: It's a nice museum with some niche artwork. They were changing exhibits when I was there so part of the museum was inaccessible, but even if that section was open, the museum is on the small side.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful Art display With a Lovely Jazz Band to Enjoy.

DENNIS TE 1 year ago

Expérience positive: Located in downtown and is close to several restaurants and bars so it is very convenient to stop and take a look in the museum. They still have a mask requirement here, so have one ready. The art has late 80's to late 90's versions of modern art mixed with derelict art. Best time to go is the first Friday of each month as admission is free after 6pm.

Expérience fantastique: Pleasantly surprised by this place! I typically don’t enjoy contemporary art but their exhibits had a good balance of paintings and sculptural pieces. Not a huge establishment but you can easily spend an hour in there Friendly staff and curator who proactively share with patrons Very accessible by public transit if you don’t want to park dt.

Expérience fantastique: Not a frequent museum patron, but for 10$ the place is a nice way to infuse some culture into the day, and especially after a shelter-in-place. Right now, there are not many pieces from before 2010, and many, many works are from local artists. Tempering expectations is the best course of action for the next few months. Hopefully, the museum can raise more money to collect some more interesting pieces in the future.

Expérience fantastique: Museum is now open F, Sat, Sun. Call to verify due to COVID closures. New show is on incarceration. Very thought provoking. Permanent installation is on the second floor with an eclectic collection. We also shopped in the gift store. Always excellent finds for Christmas, birthdays), and other gifts. And we bought sandwiches to go from the Cafe. You can enter the Cafe and gift shop without paying a fee for the art exhibit.

Expérience fantastique: Love the San Jose museum of Art. The exhibits are regularly updated, they contemporary, and have a local connection frequently. It's a high quality museum right in San Jose.

Expérience fantastique: Really excellent small museum. Last time I was here 10 years ago it felt like it was trying to be a SFMOMA or a shrine to Chihuly. It's really come into its own with a focus on diverse artists mainly working in California. Hito Steyerl's video installation is affecting and thought provoking. The exhibition of California "hard edged" pieces is really great as an exploration of different approaches to a theme, and does so with the works of mostly women artists.

Expérience fantastique: Great modern curation for a 1-3 hour visit. Can't beat it with free entry for students, youth and seniors. We ended up paying only $10 for myself (one adult) and really enjoyed it, and taking photos with the art was as much fun as taking it in itself.

Expérience fantastique: Very limited collection only one floor open at this time, still extremely nice. Only issue was the limited use of the AC, covid has everyone wearing masks. So it'd be nice if they'd turn the AC down a bit!

Expérience fantastique: This is a small museum space with some nice unique installations with a distinct bay area ethos. Some areas were closed when I visited yesterday , but that's ok since there's still lots to look at. We also ate at the cafe which was good with friendly staff and gives you energy to take in the works. Museum store also was nice to browse through.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum! Definitely worth a visit whether you are a local or new to the city. The museum gave me a good understanding of the city's context and history.

Expérience fantastique: This is smaller museum but I enjoyed it. I am an educator was I was able to get in free. It would have been $10 which I think is a reasonable asking price. Beautiful pieces and some were interactive.

Expérience fantastique: Lately San Jose Museum of park has been bringing the funk! This past month the art was amazing! I'm going to have to just go in there again to check it out that's how good it was! Also it was a great place to take selfies!

Expérience fantastique: It's in interesting art museum to visit. Museum it self is not very big. You can easily cover all exhibits within an hour. Located in downtown San Jose, so you need find parking in one of those paid parking lots or if you are lucky you will find street parking. There are quite a few interesting exhibits.

Expérience fantastique: This Museum reflects the true spirit of San Jose state's Art culture while demonstrating the core Art spirit of the city area. The Museum building carries a state of the art infrastructure and its outer view is super scenic. During my visit to South Market street, I visited this place in the evening time and the walk was worth the time as it truly stood out the expectations.

Expérience fantastique: Great modern art museum. Some nice pierces that make you think or are just nice to view. Some of the pieces really drew me in and it was tough to walk away. Didn’t cost too much to visit either. Quite a surprise for its downtown location.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum that you can spend lots of time or visit briefly if you wanted. Also there are lots of free days of you plan ahead you can visit for free. Also from time to time they have children workshops which our son loves to come to to make things

Expérience fantastique: Went on a field trip with my son's 4th/5th grade class. The tours they have the children provided lots of opportunity for discussion with open-ended questions about the various works of art. We were only there for about 2 hours so didn't get a chance to see everything since part of our time was also spent creating our own art. Lots of wonderful exhibits which displayed a variety of mixed media from photography to water color to textiles to glass to use of protected videos on the wall... lots of 3 dimensionality. Very relaxing and inspiring environment. Super friendly and helpful staff. It was my first visit and I would highly recommend it to others.

Expérience fantastique: This is a very interesting museum with modern art. It is rather small so you can take your time to enjoy the art works. I will say you need to enjoy modern art as this is not your usual museum with paintings and sculptures. We took the light rail so we did not have to park and it worked out very well.

Expérience fantastique: This place is an amazing place for anyone who lives science and technology. While geared mostly towards children, adults can also enjoy it as well. I brought my son because I knew he'd love it. He's 24. After our trip, he thanked me for letting him feel like a kid again.

Expérience fantastique: We had a lovely day here. We managed to hit in between exhibits so a part of the museum was closed to us. But they gave a voucher to come back and see the new exhibit for free. So a really good value. It's in a good area to make a day of it. The Tech Museum is nearby as are some really good places to eat. We'll be going back soon.

Expérience fantastique: Galleries are very placed and the public tours are amazing. they have variety of options available at gift shop.

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful museum with a focus on modern art. You can get through the whole place in an afternoon and is perfect for dates or family activities. The staff is always very helpful and insightful. There should be some research done before going. There are times when parts of the museum are closed off because a show is being cleared out or moved in. Also, there are some shows that might not be child friendly.

Expérience fantastique: A small but inserting modern and contemporary art museum. Their exhibitions will change during the year. They offer free tour and every 3rd Thursday after 5pm, it’s only $5 to get in.

Expérience fantastique: The Banerjee exhibit was very interesting.

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful art museum with beautifully curated exhibits. The current exhibit on Rina Banerjee is incredible.

Expérience fantastique: This museum will delight you! There are numerous excellent exhibits throughout the year with lots of space in which to roam. The docents are helpful or one can go it alone and use written guides for information. The Cafe is in the original museum which I've been told was a post office before that! The food has been consistently fair.I love the museum gift shop which has a variety of artistic items to purchase and an interesting variety of choices within each category. The location is excellent with many kinds of restaurants nearby. The Lite Rail, Theatres, Movies, Bars. etc., are all within walking distance of the museum. Invest a day visiting this San Jose Treasure. Better yet, become a member! No fee if you are a member and certain memberships (not expensive) allow a member to bring a guest for free.

Expérience fantastique: A wonderful place to see a variety of Art work. Most recently attended the Suffergrette Art Walk and display. Excellent.

Expérience fantastique: A great small local museum. The exhibits rotate nicely and the building is very nice and works well for its purpose. Amazing and knowledge staff from the people working the front desk to the docents. Always really pleased with the different art they have each time I go in. The central location is a plus. Only downside is parking is a bit difficult, but it's downtown San Jose so not much can be done about that.

Expérience fantastique: I loved it. I really enjoyed my resent visit to the art museum. Don't know when was my last visit to any museum. The tour guide was awesome. It was all free. She was informative and interactive. Stuff available there is also amazing. Good for kids n adults to get inspired. My son (7) was super happy there.

Expérience fantastique: Don't expect too much and you'll love this little museum! There are 2 or 3 small.exhibots at a time but usually the works are really interesting. The curators and docents are super approachable. I recommend a quick stop there (it shouldn't take much more than 2 hours to see it all). There's also a small cafe and store.

Hamza Mesbahi 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Maybe a little small, but overall, I really enjoyed the expositions there. And there are minimal disturbances, which allowed me to connect with the work of art and understand it. Bear in mind, some expos have a "no photos" policy, while some other do allow pictures to be taken. You can, however, carry a blank paper to all expos, as a tool to sketch the piece of art or write you thoughts it. It all depends on the artist. They have student discounts, children, and senior discounts. Don't hesitate to ask, you'll save a few bucks.

Expérience fantastique: Compact for a museum but still very very good, they also rotate a lot of the art work. Here are few of my fav works! Definitely worth a try. Pro tip: sign up to get a San Jose public library card to enter this and various other museums for free. Thank me later

Expérience fantastique: Small, but perfect for a rainy day outing. Easy and fast walk from the parking garage next door. Coffee shop inside with several eateries to spend the afternoon in the plaza

Expérience fantastique: The exhibits change all the time and are of varied interests. The Chihuly chandeliers are mesmerizing. Best of all the staff seem to love working there!

Alex Filatau 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Nice local museum with cafe and gift shop, obviously. Most often has expositions of some contemporary art, but if you are luck you can get something interesting like photos by Ansel Adams. It's rather small and cozy.

Laura “lorikitty” Flores 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: We went when there weren't many exhibits open, so they gave us free tickets for another day. The exhibits were great, including an interesting meditation exhibit. My children loved the exhibit on exploring art and color.
