Expérience fantastique: It's has been so long since I have been there. So it felt great and the presentation that night was very informative and yet frustrating. To once again learn how bad has gotten when it comes to our SAFETY our PUBLIC SAFETY.

Expérience fantastique: A few months ago, we visited the Lightcatcher Building to see the temporary exhibition "Fluid Formations: The Legacy of Glass in the Pacific Northwest". Today we saw the exhibit "Un/Natural Selections". WOW. We were so impressed! Kudos to the curators for creating these impressive exhibits with truly high-caliber artworks. We're relatively new residents of Bellingham and we're so happy to have a nice museum space here. The Old City Hall building was interesting too, particularly the "bird room" on the 2nd floor. Really well laid out, with identification cards (rather than having the names right next to the birds) so you can quiz yourself as you learn the names of the birds you're viewing. There's a small free parking lot right next to the City Hall building; we parked there and walked to Lightcatcher first, then back to the City Hall building. There's also street parking, but not much was available nearby. We also were happy to see that the cafe Bar Cicotti (Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8 AM – 9 PM) inside the Lightcatcher building has some good vegetarian options on their modest menu. We joined the museum, of course!

Expérience positive: Our trip to the museum was pretty fun and informative. The staff was helpful and friendly and the exhibits were pretty interesting. The place is small but the entrance fee does give you access to the other building, and there is a tour you can join if they are there at the right time.

Expérience fantastique: Somehow I had never been to the Whatcom Museum even thought I've lived here for around 7 years! I'm so glad I finally went. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the collection of photographs, artifacts, and displays were varied and all equally interesting. Another great thing about the museum in the old city hall is that the building itself is a part of Bellingham's history. Also admission is very reasonable at 10$ for adults. I don't know if this is an all the time thing, but the day I visited, admission to Old City Hall also covered the Light Lightcatcher building.

Expérience positive: The third floor was a big surprise. So so many stuffed birds. Other than that, there were some local history and information about the natives. Pretty small scale but the ticket includes the entrance of the museum next door.

Expérience fantastique: The two buildings of this museum can keep you busy all afternoon. See work by national-calibur artists in the Lightcatcher building downstairs and understand local Coast Salish culture upstairs. Then learn more local history details in the grand Victorian-era Old City Hall Building a block away.

Expérience fantastique: Exploring this building -- Bellingham's Old City Hall -- is reason enough to visit this magnificent 19th Century landmark overlooking Bellingham Bay which now houses the museum. In addition to their regular collection which is worthy of exploring, the museum regularly rotates the collection and attracts a variety of excellent speakers, lecturers, historians and artist. Today, Sonoma-based painter and curator of “The Intimate Diebenkorn” (currently on exhibit at the Lightcatcher through August 19th) Chester Arnold, noted that mid-century painter, Richard Diebenkorn’s artworks “are the works of a modern master.” Arnold shared insight and depth into the life and work of Diebenkorn at a lecture in the Museum’s Rotunda Room this afternoon (Saturday, June 23). Diebenkorn’s personal experiences, especially the Bay Area landscape surrounding him, clearly shaped his style, perspective, and career. Next stop: the nearby Lightcatcher Museum (250 Flora Street -- two blocks away).

Expérience fantastique: As museums go they do a good job of representing the community

Expérience fantastique: Loved this museum! It just so happened to be Africa themed when we went. Having spent time in Tanzania myself, I was thrilled to find a UW professor giving a lecture discussing the Maasai and Tanzanian politics. The museum had quite a large display of elephant ivory and I am unsure how I feel about that. Regardless, the museum is splendid and a very pleasant stop.

Expérience fantastique: Always something new! Beautiful new exhibition on Coast Salish tribes that's full of information for adults and hands on for children. Also, many don't know that the admission paid gets you into the art museum, children's museum, AND natural history museum. So admission is pretty fair.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful "green" building, very artsy and good exhibits.

Bryan Langlois 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: We certainly don't visit this local icon often enough, but when we do I am always pleasantly surprised by the friendly, informative & quirky docents. They make the experience just a bit more memorable. This last visit we were treated to excellent views out of the upper turret overlooking Bham bay while bright god beams skittered over the water under a brooding sky, sorry I didn't get photos ;{)

Expérience fantastique: Awesome Christmas trees right now, but learned a lot about the history of the area! Great info!

Expérience fantastique: I remember back in the 1970 they let you go up the spiral star case to look out the window , where the clock is at

Teresa Hawley 7 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Enjoyed walking around the museum with the kids during the Art Walk.

Expérience fantastique: With new exhibits every couple of months there's always something new to see here. The sections on historic Whatcom County (photographs, paintings, etc.) are particularly great for those interested in local history. When the Syre Education center is open it hosts an excellent collection of Pacific Northwest native people, plants, and animal artifacts. Pro-tip: your public library membership gets you free entrance to the museum once every 2 months for up to 6 people.
