Expérience fantastique: Interesting exhibition of city, history and art

Nathalie Beckker 1 year ago

Expérience fantastique: Very nice museum. We came for the "Candlelight" exhibition, well worth a visit. Nicely set up with beautiful paintings, showing the use of candlelight in art. Due to the special lighting, it is as if you are indeed viewing everything with only candlelight. The use of a kind of black net curtains, with LED candles in between, gives the exhibition a special atmosphere.

Expérience fantastique: Museum Gouda has an exhibition about candlelight in painting. Funny and beautiful painting to properly elaborate this phenomenon in painting. We have been here with friends and it was a discovery of another nice local museum.

Expérience positive: Wonderful collection to see in the museum, especially the enormous sketches for the church stained glass windows are really worth seeing

Expérience fantastique: At the moment an interesting exhibition about church panels and stained glass windows, of which the original drawings are also shown, for the total exhibition one has to start in the Sint Janskerk

Expérience fantastique: A warm and cute museum that tells stories of cheese and the town. I liked the clear but not boring explanation provided by audio guide. Also there was some interesting videos give you more information. The staff I met was very friendly to me. He explained the details not included in guides and recommended me some nice and special cheese. I tried it later in the store, and it was actually really great, the black Gouda cheese. Doesn't accept museum card though, it's a pity.

Expérience fantastique: Nice museum. Not very big, but enough to see to spend an hour or two. Interesting exhibition about the cartons of the stained glass windows of St. John's, including audio tour. Model of Gouda from 1562 is very beautiful and gives a good picture of the city from that time. And my son found the hidden torture chamber very impressive. Courtyard between the church and the museum is also worth a look. Nice place.

Expérience fantastique: Rainy day in Gouda. That made us decide to visit the Gouda museum. Nice entrance with a beautiful courtyard garden. Within a large collection of contemporary and ancient paintings. Beautiful works of biblical scenes. They also show how Gouda was created. Furthermore, a nice collection of cartons. These are preliminary studies of stained glass windows of the Sint Janskerk in Gouda. There is also a large collection of pottery on display.

Expérience fantastique: Nice museum, now especially with all those drawings rolled out in a part of the large church. All beautifully detailed. The overview of Gouda pipes and silverware and patel is also very extensive, but also because of the amount placed closely together. Beautiful beautiful old building. The museum restaurant is very nicely decorated and outside on the terrace it is great to relax in the sun. Reservation is necessary in my opinion. Friendly staff and good menu is all spic and span. Photos from the inner terrace to the outside and the museum garden.

Expérience fantastique: Very nice and interesting museum. We came for the "Candlelight" exhibition but were able to see more straight away! Everything was beautifully, clearly and fascinatingly displayed. You can also sit outside and have some lunch. We therefore definitely recommend a visit! *The cat is a bonus in the garden.

Expérience fantastique: We came for the "candlelight" exhibition, but afterwards we also visited a few rooms with the permanent collection. "Candlelight" is very special with work by Gerard Dou and Rembrandt, among others. Very attractively decorated too. There is a lot to see in the museum. We liked the "depot" with all kinds of paintings and objects. There were also many paintings by Gouda artists, a collection of pipe stems, a room with pottery and pottery and a pharmacy. We will definitely go there again to take a closer look at everything. Also beautiful restaurant and courtyard where you can enjoy the sun.

Expérience fantastique: City Museum which tells about the life of the city in different periods and confirms with artifacts. Picture, utensils, household items. The apothecary's room and the doctor's instruments showed how medicine was born. Informative, entertaining...

Expérience fantastique: Surprisingly beautiful museum with extensive information about the origin of Gouda and many interesting paintings by known and unknown masters. Excellent accompanying explanation. The museum is located in a historic building. Even the prison in the basement is still there and can be visited.

Expérience fantastique: Collection of paintings by Dutch artists highlighting varied perspectives of the influence of the sea on history. There are also paintings and other interesting subjects from Gouda's history. The pottery section with a collection of pieces from once flourishing local potteries is an attraction. A audio tour guide (also English) is available. Worth visiting the museum and spending a few hours.

Expérience positive: Really great place to know the history of Gouda and the nearby regions. I was specially in awe of the miniature model exhibit of the city of Gouda from 1572. Kudos to the creator of that. The art exhibition about looking at art from different perspectives was a unique experience. Nice way to spend 1.5-2 hours. The only negative is that an English version of the audio guided tour is not available.

Expérience fantastique: Museum Gouda was founded in 1874 and is housed in the former hospital in the Catharina Gasthuis. You can see, among other things, a complete pharmacy interior on the original site of the Gouda city pharmacy, 16th-century altarpieces, 19th-century paintings and a collection of Gouda pottery. The entrance is through the Lazarus gate.

Expérience fantastique: Nice museum with many historical paintings and utensils. The basement with torture instruments and dolcel is spectacular. For children there is a lot to discover and even the possibility to be creative in the 'kliederkelder' to paint their own still life. Nicely located behind the beautiful church in historic Gouda!
