Expérience fantastique: Fabulous exhibition of Greek, Roman and Etruscan culture. I wish I had more time to explore. In the middle of the Greek exhibition you'll find a rotunda with statues of Greek Gods and you think you're invited to dine with the Gods! Absolutely stunning. Definitely would recommend to visit!

Expérience fantastique: A collection of Roman and Greek history. Situated on Museum Island, at Lust Garten near the Cathedral/Berliner Dom. A beautiful building. It is a part of UNESCO World Heritage. Built in 1830 by the order of Frederick William III king of Prussia.

Expérience positive: Great Experience. The museum was designated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1999. Very nice and well kept collection. A free audio guide provides a good interpretation of the objects. The descriptions are both in German and English.

Expérience fantastique: It's one of the nicest museums in Berlin, especially if you like old Rome and Greek culture. It's not too big. You can go through the whole museum in a couple of hours without feeling exhausted afterward. Audio guides are free with the ticket so make sure to take them. It makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. They are available in English and German.

Expérience fantastique: We were really impressed with the range of art and artifacts here. We managed to book a time slot right before going in with no trouble. It was just amazing seeing how old everything was and thinking about how the Greek and Romans used to live.

Expérience fantastique: We visited the Altes Museum while waiting for our time slot at the Pergamon. One shouldn’t compare the two museums but we were equally impressed by the Altes Museum. The collection is huge and the range in history equally grand. The building is beautiful and makes the visit even more enjoyable. Don’t miss standing in the middle of the circular hall and speaking, nice audio effect. The Greek gods on display in the circular hall made it a very special experience. We spent about 90 minutes in the museum and were very happy that we decided to visit. It was well worth the visit and we highly recommend it to anyone, including people who don’t usually go to museums.

Expérience fantastique: One of the most amazing exhibitions of classic greek art and the most complete collection of arcaic greek sculptures I’ve ever seen. You can use the VisitBerlin tickets here, though you must book a time slot in their web before hand. Free German and English audio guides at the entrance. As in any other Berlin Museum, always buy/book your tickets at least an hour before closing time! Spectacular sculptures for nice pictures next to the front gate. Also, beautiful etruscan art and weaponry.

Expérience fantastique: The museum has so many halls with exhibits. You can get an audio guide at the entrance. In one of the hall you can meet a woman - hall caretaker- who is able to greet you on English, Russian, Italian (not the full list ) and now on Ukrainian . The museum is interesting and for grownups and kids, who can see there even yo-yo from the times of Pompei.

Expérience fantastique: The Altes Museum (German for Old Museum) is a museum building on Museum Island in Berlin, Germany. Since restoration work in 2010–11, it houses the Antikensammlung (antiquities collection) of the Berlin State Museums. The museum building was built between 1823 and 1830 by the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the neoclassical style to house the Prussian royal family's art collection. The historic, protected building counts among the most distinguished in neoclassicism and is a high point of Schinkel's career. Until 1845, it was called the Königliches Museum (Royal Museum). Along with the other museums and historic buildings on Museum Island, the Altes Museum was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The Altes Museum was originally constructed to house all of the city's collections of fine arts, including Old Master paintings, and prints and drawings. However, since 1904, the museum has solely housed the Antikensammlung (Collection of Classical Antiquities). Since 1998, the Collection of Classical Antiquities has displayed its Greek collection, including the treasury, on the ground floor of the Altes Museum. Special exhibitions are displayed on the second floor of the museum. Under General Director Ludwig Justi, the building was the first museum of Museum Island to undergo reconstruction and restoration, which was carried out from 1951 to 1966 by Hans Erich Bogatzky and Theodor Voissen. Following Schinkel's designs, the murals of the rotunda were restored in 1982. However, neither the ornate ceilings of the ground floor exhibition rooms nor the pairs of columns under the girders were reconstructed. The former connection to the Neues Museum has also not been rebuilt; instead, an underground passageway connecting all of the museums of Museum Island is planned as part of the Museumsinsel 2015 renovations.

Expérience fantastique: Extraordinary, from the building itself to the rarities in it, if you are a fan of Greek art you can't miss this one. From the outside it looks outstanding, from the inside there are so many gems to discover. The building is well structured and provides a cozy and clean environment for the visitors, it's nice and quite so you can enjoy the contents, definitely a must go when in Berlin!

Expérience fantastique: An incredible collection of ancient treasures. Berlin has so many different museums that offer unique views.. and this is one of them. A must visit.

Expérience fantastique: A wonderful experience! I saw amazing statues and beautiful paintings, including French impressionists. I could only stay for one hour, which was not enough. I recommend listening to the audio guide for the interesting stories about the statues and paintings. Also, if you are interested in this kind of art, you should plan on staying for at least 3 hours if not more; one hour for each floor (3 floors in total).

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely underrated museum. Sure it doesn’t have monumental statues or architecture but is absolutely world class in ceramics, jewelry and smaller statues and busts

Expérience fantastique: Tourist 101 site to visit and all included with the Berlin Welcome Card. It's a must get for first timers to Berlin and to get the most in a small amount of time. Pays for all buses, trams and AB line trains. Entrances to nearly all musuems in the island.

Expérience fantastique: Experiencing the history that is held within the walls of this museum was a treat. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly and the museum is laid out in a pleasant way that allows you to wander through at your leisure. It's not overly crowded and the artifacts are stunning.

Expérience fantastique: Awesome museum, try to buy tickets early to avoid a line and get the museum pass for 18 Euro. You must put your bag and jacket in the cloak room but the whole museum is heated. It's a workout in itself to do but so worth it. Wear comfy shoes.

Expérience fantastique: A beautifully built museum with a large Greek/Roman exhibit. Make sure you get an English audio guide.

Expérience fantastique: Like all other museums on Museum Island, don't do it if you're not willing to invest the time. Each of the museums is so different and in my opinion exploring them should be worth one trip to Berlin in itself.

Stacey Howes 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: One of the best museums that I've ever been to! The art was fantastic and the building was stunning inside and out! It's best to arrive early before it gets crowded so you can wander leisurely.

Annemiek Visser 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Cool museum with many different topics. It also has several souvenirs shops, but they can be a bit tricky to find. There is also a possibility to buy one ticket to see all museums on the museum island. I recommend that ticket if you have lots of time to spend that day. But if you just want to take your time, there would still be plenty to see in the Altes Museum. :)

Expérience fantastique: Famous ang just interesting antique sculptures. Not big, 1,5-2 hours 8s enough. There is a service lift, if you are with a stroller, but you should ask the security about it.

Ger Sellars 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Greek, Roman and Etruscan art. Everything from small bronzes to large sarcophagi. The rotunda is worth seeing as is the first floor room with grave goods and mosaics.

Glenn Auve 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Excellent collection. The free audioguide provides good interpretation of many of the objects. The 3 day museum pass is a great value at 29 euros if you are in town for a few days.
