Expérience fantastique: This building from 1876 houses paintings and sculptures from the 19th century. At 12.30 there was no queue to enter. It is possible to visit it also with the combined ticket of the 7 museums of the "Museuminsel" valid for one day only, but visiting them all in such a short time is challenging.

Expérience fantastique: Very impressed by the extensive collection of paintings by various European painters, especially the awe-inspiring works of Anton von Werner and Adolph Menzel. Couldn’t get enough of their techniques and surreal attention to detail! The museum was also nicely laid out and easy to navigate. Could easily have spent 2-3h here wandering around, getting lost in the beauty of art that harkens back to a bygone era. Highly recommended. Little to no queue on a weekday afternoon as well.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing art pieces. IF you have 3 days to spare in Berlin, do yourself a favor and buy the 3Day/36museum pass for €29 [2022 price]. It will be totally worth it.

Expérience fantastique: This is one of the great state museums located on the Museum Island in Berlin Mitte. The collection focuses on art works from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The building itself has been beautifully restored to make a great home for the art. On the first floor a number of German paintings from around 1870s to WWI are on show. Also it is possible to see the famous painting “The Flute Concert”, a portrait of King Friedrich the Great. We spent most time on the second floor, where impressionist works (Cezanne, Degas, and Monet) are on show.

Expérience fantastique: The largest art gallery in the city and one of the best you can see. It has a large variety of sculptures and paintings of different styles and time periods. The quality and details of everything is amazing, and everything gives you a feeling of awe. The building itself has its own historical value and you can appreciate how the past events such as the war affected the structure and the building itself. The employees are very kind and willing to help and have knowledge of the are that is on display. Very much worth the visit of this museum and the surrounding museums nearby. If you are visiting the city, make sure you save a day to visit all of them.

Expérience fantastique: Friendly staff, bought the 3 day Museum pass Berlin here. The lady made reservations needed for the next day right at that moment for us. Beautiful building! Audio guide included. A very educational experience. It takes 3.5 to 4 hrs to calmly enjoy the museum and listen to the stories behind the most interesting pieces.

Expérience fantastique: I loved this museum, the amount of romantic paintings from the 1800s is astonishing. ️ Some great artworks from Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel who is a master of lighting and of painting beautiful landscapes and also some realism pieces from Adolph Menzel. ️ The best thing about this museum is that it's not stolen art, objects and artifacts from other countries but instead paintings from German artists. The Paul Gauguin exhibition was also really interesting, you learn a lot about France's colonization of Polynesia and the way Gauguin pictured it and what he thought of it. ️ If there is one museum not to miss on Museuminsel in Berlin, it's this one. ⭐

Expérience fantastique: The Old National Gallery is a great way to spend 4 hours or so and marvel at many of the exhibits. Need to join a short queue to hand in bags and coats first. The audio commentary brings some of the displayed artworks into focus and there are strategically placed, comfortable seating points to admire the exhibits. The works of Adolph Menzel were one of the highlights for me.

Expérience fantastique: Planned by Friedrich August Stüler on behalf of King Friedrich Wilhelm IV from 1862 onwards , the Alte Nationalgalerie was executed by Johann Heinrich Strack in the classicism and neo-renaissance style until 1876. It is currently home to paintings and sculptures from the 19th century from the collection of the "National Gallery". The building of the "Alte-Nationalgalerie" combines architectural elements of different building types. The gable facade and the surrounding half-columns are borrowed from a temple , the monumental staircase from a castle or theater and the attached apse from a church . In this combination, the building should architecturally emphasize the unity of nation, history and art.

Expérience fantastique: Pretty building and well presented museum, included in museum pass. Facilities were very good, audiopass was included with the ticket which added some useful context to artworks. Reservation online is needed to book a timeslot. A few fine pieces from monet/manet/cezanne etc.

Expérience fantastique: If you are interested in paintings, this museumis strongly recommended, all the paintings are well categorized in nature, self portraits and so on, the building is really beautiful and well-spaced, but unfortunately second floor was closed which belongs to Monet, but 1st and 3rd was open and we really enjoyed.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful gallery, especially if you want to get introduced to German Romanticism. Everything is in German so I recommend reading up on the big names exhibited there ahead of time so you get the most out of actually seeing them in real life.

Expérience fantastique: Awesome paintings. They have built them self a straight style and stuck with it. Unlike most other museums where you're given paintings from 1400 up to 1980. Like the Kebab shop that also does Curry, Pizza and Sushi. Everything a little but nothing specialised. The personal is very friendly and helpful too. You'll better plan for 3 hours min. And don't forget about the audio guide at the main desk. The audio guide gives you more than the obvious of what you can see in the paintings anyway.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing place!! Beautiful art and very nice Museum Staff. I recommend the catalog by E. A. Seemann as it gives so much more information to the exhibition

Expérience fantastique: Cultural MUST DO in Berlin! You’re into historical art? This is the place to be! I love Caspar David Friedrich and they have a great amount of his most amazing paintings. Especially “Abtei im Eichwald” I’d wanted to see for ages. Besides of the paintings is the museum a piece of art itself.

Expérience fantastique: The museums location is very easy to access. The paintings inside are amazing, all of them are wonderful. The building itself is beautiful as well.

Expérience fantastique: Alte covers my favorite period in painting so I'm always happy to go. Most of the works, besides their famous Monet, were completely different than last time I visited 5 years ago so that was nice. There's 3 floors with an elevator and a basement gift show so it's not a huge museum, very navigable. A lot more attendants than I'm used to. My fiancee got fussed at for bringing a bag in which someone called us out on at ticketing and didn't seem well signaged, so that was a small bummer.

Expérience fantastique: This is a art-museum on the Museum-Insel in Berlin. You can find here classic, impressionist, modern, romantic art (paintings, sculptures). The building (museum) is beautiful and every floor has its own subdivision. Ludwig Justi was the main force behind this museum (1909-1933). Since the reunification art from east and west were brought together in this museum.

Expérience fantastique: Alte Nationalgalerie ia an art gallery which shows collections of early Modernist artwork, Romantic, Neoclassical and Impressionist. The building structure is unique and it was widely believed to be fireproof because of the using bricks and iron. It's great for visiting. You can admire the building's architecture and the wonderful collections.

Expérience fantastique: A place an art and history lover must visit. Beside the absolutely beautiful building inside and out it has an amazing collection of art pieces. The ticket prices are definitely affordable.

Expérience fantastique: So much to offer while visiting this museum on museum island. Not a long wait to get in at all while on my visit. Lots of history here to see.

Expérience fantastique: It's a pretty epic museum. The classical exterior lets you know exactly what sort of exhibits you'll find on the interior. Worth however many euros as they charge for it.

Expérience fantastique: The Alte Natinalgalerie (Old National Gallery) is one of the important attractions at Museum Island in Berlin. Here you will find artworks and sculpture of the Neoclassical and Romantic movements as well as a collection of works representing the Impressionism and Modern art periods. The Alte Natinalgalerie is open from 10am to 6pm daily with extended hours to 8pm on Thursday. Entry fee is €10 per person. Note, that entry into the museum is covered under the Berlin Museum Pass (€24 per person), a worthwhile Pass to consider purchasing if you intend to visit more than 2-3 major museums during your time in Berlin. There are some nice works and at least a couple hours of viewing at Alte Nationalgalerie, which will make for a very good museum experience for art fans. Equally impressive is the Neo-Classical architecture of the building, which is elevated and fronted by an equestrian statue of Friedrich Wilhelm IV. There is also a superb colonnade just in front of the museum which will be much enjoyed by fans of architecture. Note: Cameras are allowed at the museum so you can take as many pictures as you like if you see artworks that are interesting to you. Note: There are free lockers you can make use of at Alte Natinalgalerie. This allows you to view the open exhibition more freely and comfortably during your visit.
