Expérience fantastique: A very interesting Muséum. A special effort has been done to provide different explanations between childs and adults and this a very good idea.

Expérience fantastique: An excellent museum. They provide a lot of audio and visual information in English, but unfortunately many labels are only in Dutch. Although it is Gallo-Roman, the area about pre-historic humans is very interesting and we'll done.

Expérience fantastique: Excellent experience!! We were first received by a really kind receptionist who started a conversation with us about science. All the staff of the museum was really helpful and nice to us. The museum explains the history of the region starting 5x10^5 years ago and gives a very comprehensive and detailed description about the development of new technologies and the communities from hunter gatherers to agricultural communities and the pre-romanic cultures. Then there is a very detailed explanation about the roman presence in the region and life in the empire. The exhibition ends with the invasion of the germanic tribes and the start of the middle ages. It is a very cohesive exhibition with excellent audio in english which at the end of the exhibition you can email to yourself to hear it from the comfort of your home in case you missed anything! Plus, we also noticed that the museum has a lot of good content for kids and the museum store has really great products with ancient roman theme.

Expérience positive: A smooth museum experience with thousands of artifacts on display from prehistoric to ancient times. Displays are in Dutch but audio guides were available in multiple languages. There were even free postcards given away at the end of the exhibit.

Expérience fantastique: Very nice museum, the permanent exhibition is a bit out-dated, but the temporary one is state of the art! Huge building, very spacy, a lot of information to be seen and heard. The free audio guides are a big bonus. Tip: park your car on the free parking lot De Motten from where it is a 5 minute walk.

Expérience fantastique: When you think about a prehistoric museum, you expect a boring place. In the case of the Gallo-Roman museum, you are completely wrong. The place shows prehistory in such an interesting way, that our kids stayed there over three hours and did not want to leave the place. It is certainly one of the most interesting museums in Belgium.

Expérience fantastique: The current exhibition is a real must see with exceptional items from the vast collection of the British Museum. But the way the artefacts are presented is in itself worthwhile of your visit. A perfect audioguide and interactive panels for children makes you forget time during your flash back into ancient roman time. Top.

Expérience fantastique: The permanent exhibition is surely worth the time. The audio guides are great, you can listen only to the main information, go in detail or even take part in the "fun" story about food and beverage. Take your time, you need 2h minimum.

Expérience fantastique: This is a very good museum with a focus on history for young and old. The museum has a good permanent collection with archeological find of the region . There are often temporary expositions that are incredibly good.

Expérience fantastique: Very good adress ! Especially the temporary exhibition about the history of Rome ! I am not really a fan of that but I spent almost 2 hours in this museum ! I recommend !

Expérience positive: Really great museum, the audioguide really helps because all things are mainly in dutch or in french. It is really interactive so it would be great for kids. It takes around 3 hours to visit everything in the museum. The shop is really cheap compared to other museums. The entry is 8 for adults, 1 for kids, and 5 for students.

Expérience fantastique: One of the friendliest museums in Belgium. The Museum of Gallo-Roman History sketches the story of mankind from prehistoric times to the fifth century AD in a beautiful permanent collection. The emphasis is on society in and around Belgium during the Roman Empire and the evolution of society under Roman rule. The collection is interesting and excellently illustrated. A quadrilingual audioguide (Dutch, English, French, German) guides you around and provides a lot of information. The plaques are also very informative and accessible. It’s a great place to visit with children as well, offering special kid’s audio explanation and games throughout the museum. It is a very impressive visitor experience. There was a very nice temporary exhibition in cooperation with the British Museum. It has a shop and cafeteria (the latter closed at the moment). The museum is housed in an impressive modern building right in the middle of beautiful Tongeren. Definitely worth a visit.

Expérience fantastique: Today we were visiting the exhibition with two 10 years old children. We got the audioguides at the entrance that were set in our selected languages, when we approached the objects explained in the audioguides we could select if the listener was a child or an adult, this made the visit very enjoyable for both groups of ages. The kids were listening and answering some quiz and had a great time. Additionally there was some interactive screens where the children could listen and learn more about the exhibition (they enjoyed them). The exhibition was larger and more impressive that what I had expected, still it was a nice size for a family (not too overwhelming). We will come back soon. Additionally, last week I purchased a book online ('100 key pieces, one hundred stories by Gallo-Roman Museum Tongeren) that explains a selection of 100 artefacts exhibited in the museum for preparing a kind of treasure hunt with a few of the artefacts, that activity was also welcomed. And finally, the most important, the staff went an extra mile in every possible way to make the visit as sucessfull as it was, we are extremely grateful to them!

Expérience fantastique: I have been in this museum several times. Every year they organise a top exhibition about a theme of antiquity. I consider one of the best places to get close to classical history. The exhibition are always well curated, with lost of explanations and interactive devices. The permanent collection is rather scant of artifacts but also well designed. The staff in particular are super friendly and bother to say hello to visitors. Small but imaginative gift shop. It had a cafe that was closed this time. All in all a small museum that I well come back to and is very recommendable.

Expérience fantastique: Excellent museum, although we visited only the temporary exhibition called " Dacia Felix". The museum is very well organised, with very friendly staff and an excellent bistro inside. We would highly recommend the "Dacia Felix" which stays in town until 29th April 2020 and displays wonderful artifacts from the ancient Dacia.

Expérience fantastique: A fantastic establishment. Employees are friendly and helpful. Displays are amazing and full of so many things to explore and learn. We had our translation books and Google translate app on our phones to easily translate some things, so language barrier wasn't an issue. Overall a wonderful place to visit.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum, our 2 daughters (9 & 12) enjoyed the temporary Stonehenge and permanent exhibition very much, it is one of few museums where they didn't rush the exhibits and they were sad that it was over. Young visitors had their own audio in the Stonehenge exhibit, the workshop (making their own Stonehenge) was interesting too and a sort of treasure hunt on permanent exhibit. For us it was also very interesting.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum for adults and kids! Starting with interesting architecture, integrating well the contemporary looks that offer modern comfort and facilities with the historic elements. We visited a temporary exhibition about Stonehenge with kids aged almost 10 and almost 13 and we all loved it. The exhibition offered differentiated level of information, a sculpting workshop was offered for kids, even fix exhibition was adapted to suit interest of different age groups. We usually have to rush through musea, but this one was labelled as kids friendly.

Expérience fantastique: Wow. I'm amazed by the amount and diversity of archaeolgical findings from the Roman ages they did in and around Tongeren. A walk through the museum leads you from ancient stone tools from the prehistory to early Roman findings and objects from the ending days of the Roman Empire. The information provided is interesting for all ages, and they highlighted a few objects with an interesting story (like the bend swords they found in prehistoric graves - scientist believe they were bend so the swords aren't dangerous anymore and merely symbolic). The museum is housed in a large, well-designed building and for me as a 24-year old the entrance fee was only €1.
