Expérience fantastique: One of the most entertaining art museums ever. Six hundred years of Flemish art that is so amazing, bizarre, violent, reverent, detailed and macabre that you can stare at one painting for ever just pointing out the glory of it all. We had a blast.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful paintings! Worth the visit!

Expérience fantastique: Very nice museum, perfect size. A great collection, very well presented

Expérience fantastique: Jeroen Bosch original painting is here.

Expérience fantastique: Excellent collection of Flemish primitives. I usually skip 18th to 19th centuries, but the collection here was very well curated: very different from the usual drab landscapes and portraits. Highlights Van Eyck; Bosch; Bruegel.

Expérience fantastique: Really nice and definitively worth 1-2 hours of admiring and sometimes laughing at the imagination of some artists

Expérience fantastique: Contrary to other comments we did not have to reserve. We arrived spontaneously between 3pm and 4 pm and we have not regretted coming. It was a great visit. There are 2 master paintings of Jan van Eyck and other great paintings of flemish master painters. We had a fantastic time looking at those meticulous, acribic and incredible works of art. The museum shop is also a nice one and if you wants to offer them as a gift, the woman packs them beautifully with a butterfly-decoration. She's also really friendly. So, if you're in Bruges, that's THE museum you should go to.

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful small museum with lots of top noth Flemish paintings

Expérience fantastique: Great museum, a great overview of Flemish painting through the centuries. The famous "Laatste Oordeel" (maybe "Judgement Day" in English?) painting by Hieronymus Bosch is currently on loan to a museum in Budapest, so if that work is the main reason to visit Bruges and/or the museum, then you should check if it's been returned already (or maybe go to Budapest instead).

Expérience fantastique: A truly gorgeous gallery! This museum has a great digital tour, that provides you with plenty of information as well as some audio snippets detailing the artworks. Unfortunately the Hieronymus Bosch panels are currently loaned to another museum, but there's still so much stunning work to see. Don't skip this one, it's very much worth your time.

Expérience fantastique: I'm usually not one to go to art museums, it's just not my jam. But of course I needed to make an exception for the Groeninge Museum. And I'm glad I did. I ended up spending almost 3 hours inside and enjoyed every bit of it. Here you will have the chance not only to see amazing art works but also to learn a fair amount of fascinating history.

Expérience fantastique: This is a delightful, relatively small gallery with very fine artworks from the 13th to the 20th Century, those till the 19th primarily of artists linked to Bruges and the wider Flanders. The Burgundian Court in Bruges could attract the finest artists and did so. There are many artists you will recognise, and the ones you don't will make you wonder why you haven't heard of them. It is a well hung and well curated display. If you like fine art this is an hour or so very well spent.

Expérience fantastique: For anyone who likes paintings, I wholeheartedly recommend. From the Flemish primitives and their incredible care for detail, to the magnificent neoclassical portraits, to the moving expressionism and the intriguing surrealism. I felt all the life was there...

Expérience fantastique: A must see! Decent price, and some fabulous works of art. No, this is not a world-class museum with lots and lots of paintings. The place is clean, organized and in one hour you can see pretty much all the museum. Highly recommended!

Expérience fantastique: One of the best fine arts museums in Belgium, specially if you are interested in the “Flemish Primitives”. The first three Rooms will guide you through the origins and evolution of the art of painting in Flanders during the XV century.

Expérience fantastique: Very straightforward museum. I loved the modern feel to it and the spacious rooms and lounges where everyone can appreciate the artworks displayed. The painting of Jan van Eyck is amazing. Good job to the curators.

Expérience fantastique: A nice not too big museum with Flemish primitives works from for instance Jan van Eyck. Also some Renaissance works and others. You get an audio guide that's interesting to listen to to learn more about some paintings. Worth a visit

Expérience fantastique: A very good art gallery, with plenty of Flemish art (and others) up to the present day. The audio guide explains some of the artwork (look for the number in a black triangle in the picture's description) and does it well, so make sure that you pick up a handset.

Expérience fantastique: If you like Flemish primitive art, this is the place to be. It houses the masterpiece of Van Eyck but also some interesting works from Melling, pourbus, etc

Expérience fantastique: Very good museum with works of art of Flemish artists. Audio guide is free so make sure you take it. The stories behind the paintings are amazing! Its a relatively small museum so you can easily finish it if you are in a day your in Bruges.

Expérience fantastique: Groening Museum is a very good museum in Bruges and a nice opportunity to view important Flemish Primitive artworks including masterpieces by the likes of Hieronymus Bosch, Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling and Gerard David to name a few. The museum is located along Dijver canal and Arentshof (garden) and is open from 9.30-5pm daily (closed on Mondays). Entry fee is €12 per adult and includes entry into the Artentshuis museum nearby on the other side of Arentshof. There is free cloakroom, free lockers, clean toilets and a fair gift shop at the museum. The museum is laid out intuitively with a natural path to visit, allowing you to browse works from the 14th to 20th century. The highlights of the museum, as mentioned above, are up front in the early Flemish Primitives and include important masterpieces from that period. Visitors can then view important works from later centuries including more recent modern and contemporary artworks near the end of the collection. Expect to spend between 1-2 hours at the museum. There are temporary exhibitions at Groening Museum as well. These are held within a long hall with 4-5 niches filled with works. Check the website to learn what upcoming temporary exhibitions are scheduled at the time of your visit to Bruges.

Expérience fantastique: This a great size and temático museum. Mostly focus on Flemish primitive and Jan Van Dick. There are some painting that will leave you speechless. Only recomendad for those who enjoy attention to the detail to the level of obsession. It’s also a great building! Enjoy it!

Expérience fantastique: Free if you bought a 3 day museum pass for 28 euros. A well set out art gallery with paintings spanning from the 1400s to the 20th century. Can be busy but definitely worth a visit.

Expérience fantastique: I really enjoyed this museum. It has a big variety of Flemish art. Jeronimo Bosch (2), Van Eyck, Bruegel (1),Magritte (1), De Jans & a lot more. There is also a separate building with the work of Frank Brangwyn!! You will need approx 1:30 to 2:00 hours.

Expérience fantastique: I love this museum!! It is a must-see attraction in Brugges. It is a small to medium size museum in , it has art from the XIV to the XXI century. The most exceptional pieces are those from the XIV and XV centuries, early netherlandish painters. I've been a couple of times to the museum it is not too crowded and you can usually see the paintings without a big crowd or rush. I recommend 1-2 hours. They give an audio-guide for free ans a Locker. Tip for the locker you don't need to put 50cents they have red chips at the audio-guide counter

Expérience fantastique: I spent the morning walking round dazzled by colour and depth of the works of the Flemish primitives: religious works, pastiches, allegories, landscapes and portraits. Each painting was worthy of consideration; sometimes accompanied by more notes than just the title/ artist in Flemish, French, German and English. Well worth the entrance fee.

Expérience fantastique: Totally loved the great art that goes back many ages. Especially touching is the spiritualism gallery. The paintings are diverse and never boring. Go discover this wonderful museum, because this is slow food for the soul.

Expérience fantastique: A lovely museum showing Flemish paintings from the middle ages through to modern. Highlight for me is the Van Eyck work, the detail is unbelievable. Apparently a change in method moving from mixing oil paints with egg yolk, to mixing with linseed oil allowed the masters to paint more intricate scenes. You also get entry into a second museum of line drawings and prints by Brangwyn which we also found interesting.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum of paintings especially the works from the 15th and 16th centuries

Sam Philly23 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: There's few that wouldn't be impressed with the Flemish primitives like Van Eyck and Memling which are shown here and it's well worth a visit just for them - albeit I found myself not really having much chance to connect with these works as teachers bullied their way to the front of paintings with school groups (may be visit outside of school hours to avoid this?). It was quieter in the rooms off - with expressionists taking centre stage - some exquisite - some not quite so. An exhibition - Haute Lecture - which looked at some stunning illuminated manuscripts was on when I was there - beautifully executed and fascinating - so if that's an indicator of other stuff they present, I'd thoroughly recommend a visit. Part of the Bruges Museum Card which is worth purchasing if you're doing the rounds

Expérience fantastique: Not a big museum, but well organized and represents the painters of the area well. Make sure you visit both buildings

Jeremy James 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: The main static displays are of the Flemish Primitives - wonderful paintings, including a Hieronymous Bosch. But the best bit for me was an exhibition about early printing. The exhibits were of extraordinary quality, the information on the displays good, and an excellent audio guide. They used a clever technique to point at items of special interest using a metal arm above the books, whose shadow pointed to the item. The exhibition is based around one man's work, which creates a personal story beside the historic one. Do visit !!

Expérience fantastique: Great museum with excellent selection of works. I learned so much about development of Flemish painting school from 14 century till today. It was an extreme privilege to see the originals of Masters, that I previously could seem in books only.
