Expérience fantastique: Incredible history. Really hammers home the needless loss of life. Great exhibits showing the ever changing lines alone the Western Front around Iypres/Flanders.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing place to visit. Walking around seeing everything and learning the history of what actually happened there was sad but also enlightening

Expérience fantastique: If you only do one thing in Ypres it has to be this! Oh and the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate, two things then and the city is amazing too!

Expérience fantastique: This is a very interactive museum. The personal stories, the show of uniforms and weapons, the several films and maps. It is all very informative.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum with lots of awesome and original artifacts from the fighting around Ypres in the Great war. Audio guide is 2 euro extra which is very useful. However all descriptions are in multiple languages. You also have the ability to climb 250 stairs and see the view from the top of the tower. Well worth it.

Expérience fantastique: Great museum - good interactive options plus audio tour. The artefacts are brilliant and worth €2 to climb the bell tower for an epic view of Ypres.

Expérience fantastique: This is an excellent museum and well worth the price (you can get a joint ticket with the Ypres museum but this one is better). It’s all about WW1 and is excellent. The tech is amazing with wristbands used as a access card for various displays. It works very well. You can also pay an extra Euro 2 for an audio tour (we didn’t) and the same to go up the belfry which is really good. If you’re interested in WW1 then go here before you is the tours of the battlefields and cemeteries as you’ll bet a better understanding of the absolute horror of what went on in the area. It’s really worth the money (there is also an absolutely amazing ice cream and waffle shop across the road from the entrance!). Note that the museum cafe is very expensive. Best eat elsewhere off the main square.

Expérience fantastique: The museum has many interesting exhibits and is well laid out. We took the option of the audio guide and the additional small cost was well worth it. At the end of the route round the museum is a video presentation that last about 15 minutes. Using your scanning wristband you can access the audio track for the video in your language. This is via the ear piece in the back of the seat in front. I would recommend watching all of this video. We also paid the extra cost to climb to the top of Belfry from where you get a wonderful view of Ypres. As you look at the view below it is difficult to imagine that all of what you can see (including the museum building you are at the top of) was completely re-built after WW1. You only have to look at the photos of the town following the war to see that there was literally nothing left. Overall we enjoyed our visit to Ypres very much and the museum made it special. Expérience fantastique: Very well maintained museum. Staff very friendly and informative. Well worth the extra €2 to climb the bell tower. Don't bother with the audio guide, there is more than enough written information

Expérience fantastique: This museum is an absolute must do, for anyone visiting Ypres and who has even the slightest interest in WW1 history. It is exceptionally well structured with many interactive exhibits. The audio guide is excellent and extremely easy to use. It's worth paying the extra €2 to climb to the top of the Bell tower; great view on a clear day. But beware, it's 231 narrow spiral steps to the top. Allow at least 2 hours, preferably longer, to fully appreciate this excellent museum.

Expérience fantastique: Very good museum experience. I liked the idea of following one person’s story throughout the war. It’s not too long, just right.

Expérience fantastique: What an amazing experience. So much knowledge here without feeling like you're walking around reading all day. The memories in this building have so many stories to tell. It could be done in roughly 2 hours with anyone under 26 years being able to go in for less aswell. Going up the spire was amazing too! But not recommended for anyone who has issues with small steps

Expérience fantastique: We had a fantastic tour, very moving and so informative. And at the end there was a temporary exhibition about the first world war and the Middle East, and the tour guide showed us the story. Amazing. Again, very moving. Thank you. Lastly they also helped us as my son needed a wheelchair. So great!

Expérience fantastique: Wow! An extraordinarily good museum about the First World War! The exhibition uses many different media such as videos, audio tours, and classic showcases in order to get the information across. This is especially practical while travelling with kids, because it never gets boring. I also love how the museum contains historical artifacts from various countries, so that everybody can find something in their native language. I would advise paying the two euros to go to the tower, the view truly is astonishing! I spent two and a half hours here and I was not disappointed. Huge recommendation!

Expérience fantastique: One of the best WWI museums. I entered the museum at 10.15 and at 14.30 i was at the exit... In Flanders Fields is interactive history museum, you can find something interesting for everyone.

Expérience fantastique: A wonderful digital, interactive experience with good audio effects. You get to choose real people from WWI and follow their life stories. Thoroughly recommend ascending the Belfry, too, for lovely views of Leper/Ypres. For the first time, I fully appreciated the scale of horses' deaths :( The museum and Menin Gate are emotionally tough to visit during the Ukraine invasion. Putin and his cronies have learnt nothing from both World Wars. Or indeed others.

Expérience fantastique: Brilliant museuem. Loved that you got to look up someone and hear part of their story as you walked through. It shows how many countries were affected. There are some great videos to watch too, from modern excavations to recreations of scenes. Give yourself at least 3 hours here. The wristbands are a nice momento. Fabulous building too, rebuilt like the town, from almost nothing. Good explanations of the miners the underground war and the trenches. The front lines, reserves, communication trenches. I never realised before I visited flanders region, just how many trenches were involved at a front. Levels upon levels in places. Horses vs tanks. Hard to imagine going off to war on horseback and facing machine guns. Information is in 3 different languages, English thankfully is one. You can get an audio guide but we preferred to take our own time.

Expérience fantastique: Very nice and big museum. The people behind the counter are very friendly. The museum is interactive with a wristband that allows you to follow a person from WWI and hear their personal story. All the objects are behind glass, you can watch a film about Ypres during the war. Just follow the path through the museum. At the end of the tour through the museum there is a souvenir shop and a small brasserie.

Expérience fantastique: Spectacular exhibits with in depth exhibits telling the story of the Great War I.e world war 1. Audio tour is the best bet with commentary in English amongst other languages.

Expérience fantastique: Iit was very interesting & worth coming to.though it was painful seeing all the names of the missing soldiers on the Flanders Gate.

Expérience fantastique: Great start for your WW1 tour. Very impressive and makes you very humble at the same time. Without the knowledge you pick up here, the cemetaries would make much less sense.

Expérience fantastique: Wonderful museum with a rich history. Came here with my family from the states to learn about the area my great grandfather was stationed in WW1. Entry was a good price and you can be there for hours looking at the displays. The town is so wonderful and I cannot recommend enough.

Expérience fantastique: A remarkable museum which shows in very illustrative ways the horror of the Great War (WW1). Don't miss the climb up to the belfry (access within the museum). After 231 steps you'll get rewarded by great views of Ypres.

Expérience fantastique: A visit to Flanders Fields museum is a must when visiting Leper. It tells the story of how the town was affected during the war. Very moving at times don't forget to take the trip up the bell tower too see the stunning views of the area including the menin hate and Tyne cott

Expérience fantastique: Visiting this museum is a must when in Ypres. It was immensely educational, showing the perspectives of those who fought on both sides of the war and the local Flanders population. It stands as a tribute to those who died in the war with the building itself having been rebuilt after being completely destroyed, along with the whole of Ypres, in the war. You can spend a good 2-3 hours reading and watching all the exhibits. For an extra fee you can also climb the tower for a view of the town and surrounding area.

Expérience fantastique: Reservations are required! We made them in person but were told most do it on line. This takes over 2 hours of walking and reading displays. Bathrooms are available. Steeple tour is extra but on your own. We liked it but it is a lot of narrow steps. Museum store is small. Easy to park nearby.

Expérience fantastique: This is a fantastic museum showing the First World War on location. The magnificient building served as a textile market before the war but was flatterened by the artillety during the Great War. It was later built up again and looks the way it used to look in the old days. The museum is definitely worth visiting.

Expérience fantastique: A brilliant, interactive museum that was suitable for all of the family. On entry, you are given a wristband with a chip inside: then, as you visit the exhibits, you scan your wrist band and the information is provided in your language! There was lots to see and learn about the first world war and whilst the subject of war is difficult, it is presented very respectfully. We also climbed the bell tower (231 steps!) but got amazing views across the city and wider region. The on site cafe was lovely and we had a nice coffee and snack part way through our visit, sitting the sunshine for a little break. We got a family ticket and combined it with the Ypres Museum (same building, but different floor), which we thought was excellent value for money.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing and moving museum, incredibly thought provoking. The museum is full of personal accounts of real people; respectful but not glorifing 'war' while asking the question "did the war to end all wars really achieve that" or ... was the 'settlement' the start to so many conflicts.

Larissa Ettlin 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: You got to follow real WWI stories that are personalized to your age and country of origin, making the experience more personal. This museum showed both sides of the war, which isn't always the case, so I enjoyed that. The museum was in the old cathedral, also giving it a cool atmosphere

Thibault Dosunmu 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Worth the visit. €10 entrance price is just ok (more than that would have been a bit pricy). For a €2 extra you'll get access to the tower with a fantastic 360° view over Ieper. The museum is quiet and well maintained. There is a lot of digital interaction available using your electronic arm band. Really well done. All information is given in French, Dutch (Flemish), German and English.

Expérience fantastique: All the adjectives spring to mind ...moving, sobering, poignant, sombre. Through interactive displays and physical exhibits, video screens and conventional information points, you are immersed in Flanders Fields and the bitter, horrific, insane waste of human life on the Western Front. You may leave the museum feeling deeply angry about the loss of life, and impotent in preventing the many conflicts that still rage today.

Michael Welsby 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Another great museum in a stunning building. Entry is reasonable and for another €2 you can go right to the top of the bell tower and have a look around. The views are stunning. The museum itself is interactive and had many great exhibits. There is a half decent gift shop at the end too.

Seth Tanner 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Very cool museum! For a few euro extra you can go to the top of the belfry and see the incredible view. The food in the cafe was quite delicious!
