Expérience fantastique: Most come here as a side visit with the tickets to the City Hall. There is an ornate room, and an exhibition about lotteries, which originated from Bruges. An immersive AR video is also playing in the exhibition, which you can see life in Bruges many centuries ago.

Expérience fantastique: The "Brugsche Vrije" was an institution of towns and municipalities and additional lordships that were politically active were not dependent on mighty Bruges. They had on the Burg a residence, close to the count's castle, and also close to the Bruges town hall. This historic building houses the fireplace of the " Vrije " , a monumental fireplace made by the Bruges sculptor Lanceloot Blondeel from 1528 to 1531 in alabaster, oak and black marble. This fabulous work was performed to immortalize the victory of Charles V, who took on his future son-in-law Francis I, King of France, in 1525 at Pavia. Emperor Charles is surrounded by Maximilian of Austria and Mary of Burgundy on the one hand and Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile on the other. Portraits of Spanish and Austrian royal houses hang on the walls The frieze depicts the biblical story of the Chaste Susanna in four scenes. To the world's first "Lotinghe", originated in Bruges in 1441, 580 years ago , to celebrate there is in the " Brugse Free" an exhibition of the national lottery.

Expérience fantastique: Great little exhibition called "I was 18 in 80" . All about the Bruges punk scene in 1980. Not just things to see, but you can hear the music and mix a few tracks as well!

Expérience fantastique: You can visit here with your ticket from the town hall. The all in all small courtroom contains an impressive work of art. Only one wonders why the fireplace is not in the middle of the wall. This building is not accessible for wheelchair users.

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely worth it! Two beautiful rooms to visit that are very beautiful. Especially the room in the town hall located next door. The price for these two rooms is a bit high, but if you want to see more things in Bruges, buy the Bruges Museum Card and visit all these municipal museums a lot easier and cheaper!

Expérience fantastique: In the Middle Ages, the city was highly self-reliant in Flanders, and Bruges, Ghent, and Eper, the three major cities of Flanders, gathered to hold a meeting and influenced the politics of the Count of Flanders. The bruges of liberty is a wealthy rural area around Bruges that joined the conference of the three major cities around the 15th century (forth member four-party conference). The building was built as a gathering place for Bruchse Freyer's referees who will join the four-party conference. The silver-blue shaded shield arms are the coat of arms of Bruchse Freyer and are scattered throughout the building. The fireplace was built by Bruchse Freyer to honor Charles V. If you would like to know more about Bruchse Freyer, please refer to the paper by Homi Hatana.

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely the master gem of the Renaissance in Bruges. With contemporaries such as Pieter Pourbus, Lanceloot Blondeel was given the honorable assignment to design a majestic oak fireplace for Charles V. All the great masters of woodcarving in the Netherlands contributed to this grandiose, stunning, unparalleled and extremely stylish work of art. The hundreds of details that refer to the history of that time are breathtaking. Every visitor to Bruges should visit this hall, if only to determine how long and patient cooperation ultimately pays off! Fan-tas-tic!

Expérience positive: Bruges Vrije (Liberty of Bruges) is the former court of Bruges and a highlight visit for those with an interesting Flemish history. Opening hours are now 9.30-5pm daily. Entrance is €6 per person and includes audio guide as well as entrance into the remarkable Stadhuis (City Hall) also at Burg Square. Here you are able to enter the Renaissance style old court room. The single chamber is steeped with historical artworks, furnishing and centuries old decor that is very nice to see and learn about through use of the audio guide as well as the information cards provided at the entrance to the chamber room. A highlight to Bruges Vrije is the beautiful Charles V chimneypiece. This is a 16th-century masterpiece of Flemish Renaissance. The delicately carved oak chimneypiece with marble and alabaster figures designed by Flemish sculptor and artist Lanceloot Blondeel is remarkable. Listening to the audio guide, you can conveniently view everything at Bruges Vrije in 20 minutes. Then continue onward with other intended sightseeing. Try to combine your visit here with the mentioned Stadhuis as well as Basilica of the Holy Blood at Brug Square.

Expérience fantastique: Adjacent to this museum is a narrow passageway that was the medieval entrance into Brugge with the City Hall on its opposite side. Imagine walking down this street or on horseback as you approach the gilded archway that simply speaks prestige and money during Brugge's heyday. Then as you walk through the archway, you're greeted by the openness and grandeur of De Burg Square. Magnificence through hundreds of years.
