Expérience fantastique: Nice scansen with many small old houses restored to the original state. Most houses have shops inside. There is the first Albert Heijst store restored. There are several windmills that are still operating. Entrance fee 5 Euro. Great place to visit with family if there is no rain. Parking should be paid. Price 11 Euro. There might be no place in parking on weekends.

Expérience fantastique: We got here a bit too late due to transport problems in Amsterdam. But we really enjoyed our short time here. It's such a cool little village, it's great to be able to see how life was back then. We particularly enjoyed the coopery. The gentleman who showed us around and told us about the old cooper was very friendly and knowledgeable. We would love to go back one day.

Expérience fantastique: A must see place. Well worth your time! The car park is literally next to it, very convenient. Nice cafés and view from the bridge.

Expérience fantastique: Really cool museum with lots of traditional and themed shops nearby. The museum staff were happy to help plan out a trip to the nearby area too. The whole museum actually doesn't take too long to go around (only about 1h15m for us without an audioguide) but that means you have lots of time for everything else in the village. The toasties in the cafe are also really fresh and filling.

Expérience fantastique: Zaanse Schans - a location so iconic of the Dutch culture Perhaps the most beautiful amongst all the windmills. Green wooden houses, cheese-tasting shops, and picture-perfect windmills. It was one of our last days in beautiful Holland, and it was a day well-spent. Despite it being a really touristy area, I would vouch that the Zaanse Schans is a must-visit. It is so very picturesque - truly a photographer's haven.

Expérience fantastique: It's a very beautiful small town. A must see place, only on 20 mins drive from Amsterdam. The small village has an open museum, ancient wooden houses and ancient windmills, all very well preserved in a traditional way .This town is 300 to 400 years old.

Expérience fantastique: A fantastic place to visit on a sunny day. The buildings are fascinating and charming. The windmills steal the show, of course, but there are pretty cottages too. You could easily spend the day here.

Expérience fantastique: Great day for the whole family... Beautiful views and surroundings of real time living and also of the past... The windmills are the highlight but also the other mini museums (clocks, weavers, chocolate etc.) Are nice and informative about the area's history and traditions. For my opinio the zaanse schans ticket (23.5) is not necessary...

Expérience fantastique: The museum is really amazing to visit, it is around 40 KM from Amsterdam. The museum has a lot of things to offer and you will learn a lot about the Dutch culture. Don't miss visiting that beautiful place. I would recommend you spend the day here and come back to Amsterdam because here everything is expensive compared to Amsterdam.

Expérience fantastique: To get to Zaanse Schans from Amsterdam, I picked up a bus to Station Sloterdijk and a train to Uitgeest, via Zaanse Schans for €6,20, day-return, with no time stablished. Very easy to reach after getting out of the station. There's no need to rent a bike. There are 10 mills that produce diferent products as: oil, paintings, etc. Very beautiful. You can see the mills inside if you pay.

Expérience fantastique: Lovely, colourful and innovative museum.. It is located near Amsterdam and a great place to visit for individuals, families and kids. You can see the demo of the production line of biscuit and chocolate making of Verkade. You can also see how the company Verkade has been founded a century ago and how it still exists.. A good successful brand development experience to see.. Highly recommended :)

Expérience fantastique: Very crowded with tourists but still worth checking out. We booked scooters from the Scooter Experience and scootered there which really made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend. You can park your scooter and then walk around and check out the windmills, cheese shops, and other little shops along the way. Such a fun way to spend the day.

Expérience fantastique: Great place eventhough is very touristic. Entrance to a windmill cost 5€. There are few of them, you do not have to enter in the first one right away, go a bit further. Also there is a Chocolate Lab, you can make a hot chocolate by yourself. I really like it. Also brownie is homemade, really tasty.

Expérience fantastique: a very beautiful place, where there are giant windmills. It is also known as a place for making cheeses as well as rustic clogs of Dutch people.

Tristan Stevens-King 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: A wonderful day trip out from Amsterdam. Windmills galore and the cocoa processing factory adds a chocolatey scent to your stroll. Many picturesque houses sit besides the river. However the wind can be quite intense, so if you have sensitive ears bring an ear cover. Overall incredibly easy to access from the train station and certainly worth it.

Expérience fantastique: We did not go inside the museum as it was getting late for us and was a little tired. But lots to look at outside in that area so that is what I will show you here. Lots of people and a really good musician that we sat in the steps and listened to. Google will not let me post the video of the guy signing. It is a shame because he is worth hearing. Highly recommended.

Expérience fantastique: Very informative museum in the vicinity of Zaanse Schans. The scenic beauty this offers is next to none. 10s of windmills are still operational and serve various purposes of flour mills, carpentry, weaving... We can visit the mills at a nominal cost and is worth every penny.

Expérience fantastique: I rate it high because first of all the price of the tickets to Museum is on a lower side, secondly there is a translation facility about the description of each and every monument / archive into your known language. One can get a lot of knowledge primarily about the zaanshans, windmill belongs to nearly 200 years back and the story behind it ie., in what way it is useful to the general public in the preparation of Oil, wood cutting, grinding of various flours, and the alternative forms of energy created by these wind mills. I liked the machines belongs to several centuries back which are still working ( eventhough they are used as show case) to show how the Verkade biscuits are being manufactured and the taste of it is so nice.

Expérience fantastique: One can reach to this place by taking Bus No. 391 from Amsterdam Central Station and it will take close to 40-50min. Cheese tasting and and chocolate tasting are must. You can also purchase pencil sketch art by a Dutch guy who speaks many languages almost. Suggestion : teach him few words of ur language and he will give 10% disc . You can also go on top of Wild Mills here at a price of €5pp. This place gets very busy between 10-11am because all the tourist buses come from city.

Expérience fantastique: very nice. walking distance. not necessary bicycle. you must see if you will visit amsterdam. very nice scanzen and chocolate fabric

Sui Chen 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Beautiful windmill village not too far away from Amsterdam central station. There is no entrance fee to visit the village. You can take bus NO.391 for about 11 Euros behind Amsterdam central station, it takes about 40 minutes to get there. This would be a great one day or half day trip if you wanna see more about Holland. You can see how they make wooden shoes and also try many samples of different flavored cheese as possible. If you love photography then this is a must go place !

Expérience fantastique: Recommended to go earlier by 10 am to utilize all museum and shop. Price 15Euro for all in one package covering all museums and shops and you can get 10% discounts for any souvenirs bought in the gift shop. Taking pictures here is worthwhile.

Expérience fantastique: Worthwhile spending half to a full day here. Beautiful place by the River Zaan. Breathe in the heavenly cocoa aroma which envelopes the entire area. Buy the chocolate which are made there - hot off the press! Lots to do and see there All the windmills are authentic. We saw the staff 'trimming the sail' of the vanes. Very interesting. Basically he checked the ropes to make sure the cloth flaps are tied well to the vane. Also watched how clogs are made. Must be worn with thick socks or your toes will suffer. It was amazing to see the clog maker blowing liquid of the clogs at the end of the demonstration. Young Poplar wood has a lot of water in it. When hungry, we had pancakes in one of the restaurants. Very nice. The cheese shop is like a treasure chest. Lots of interesting shops there. Claude Monet's paintings were on display too. He was so impressed with Zaandam he made 25 paintings. I can understand his fascination especially as we went for a cruise down the river and looked at the scenery from across the water. Truly enjoyable day as we were blessed with good weather.

Expérience fantastique: The Zaans Museum is a very interesting, fun, and educational place to visit. I would recommend getting the all-encompassing pass that admits you into the museum, lets you get into the nearby windmills, and offers discounts on restaurants and gift shops. The museum educates you well about the industry that powered the Netherlands in the Zaans region back in the day of the windmills. There is also a very cool exhibit detailing how they used to make biscuits and chocolate, featuring very interesting working assembly lines! The windmills nearby are fascinating to go inside and see how they work. There is a viewing tower near the museum that gives a great vista of the windmills in the below sea level landscape. It is easy to get to if you are visiting Amsterdam. There are buses that run from Amsterdam Centraal every 10-15 minutes, and it is about 45-50 minute ride each way through. It is great break from the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam if you are visiting on vacation.

Expérience fantastique: I actually highly recommend this. One of my favorite things I did on my Netherlands trip. It's just a bunch of little mueseums and stores and such they have windmills witch is cool. It was really nice to get out of the city and just have a peaceful day. You can get a card to get into I think 5 mueseums and discounts and such for 15 euro. You can also get there via public transportation from Amsterdam.

Vikas Gupta 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Absolutely loved it. Preferred to visit the mills around the museum. You have to pay for visiting the mills from inside but thats quite small. Lot of food options within the park.

Expérience fantastique: A beautiful exhibition of the history of the zaans region and its heritage. Very interesting and put out very profoundly. You learn here about the economic development of the area and the different Dutch companies which became icon in the Dutch economy. There are also houses and the windmills open to visit. Highly recommended.
