Expérience fantastique: Likely off the beaten path for many visitors this underground museum turned out to be an amazing find to add into an itinerary. MUHBA and specifically the royal square outpost is all about the city under Barcelona, Barcino, circa 1st century AD. Grab tickets or come on sunday after 3pm (when it's free to enter) and walk over a literally dug up set of roman streets, businesses and places of worship. Tons of great information and historical placemarking. Slot it into an afternoon if you can.

Expérience fantastique: An outstanding look at and descriptions of early Roman ruins beneath present day Barcelona. Fascinating to see the Roman foundations both well lit and illustrated with descriptive panels. Walking above the ruins was fascinating.

Expérience fantastique: Fascinating place. Lots explanation of the Roman and other early history of the city. The Roman ruins are impressive and well interpreted. Currently undergoing some renovation but doesn't detract from the experience

Expérience fantastique: Probably one of the best museums in Barcelona. It's free for kids under 16 and costs 7 euros for adults. You go down with and elevator until you reach a zone full of ruins and buildings. It's like you travel back in time. Recommend it!

Expérience fantastique: Really cool museum that takes you through the Roman ruins, then the subsequent layers built over it. Spent about an hour and a half here, definitely recommend.

Expérience fantastique: This museum allows you to explore the archeological digs of the time period from 100 to 500 AD, which cover the Roman and Church periods of the Old city center of Barcelona. I loved going back 2000 years and being able to see, smell, and touch history. There are extensive ruins to explore. My favorite part was the baptistry of the church. It potentially shows how the early church practiced baptism by immersion.

Expérience fantastique: Generally ignored by most of the visitors , this museum provides co Timuat surprises for those who venture into the 15th century Githic mansion which houses its collection. In addition to the unquestionable quality and value of the works on display, the really unusual aspect of the museum is in its providing the opportunity to walk among the ruins of Roman and Medieval cities that have been unearthed in the foundations of the museum’s building . Truly a hidden treasure !

Expérience fantastique: Great museum that gives you an insight into the once buried history of Barcelona. Well worth the price of admission.

Expérience fantastique: Nice ruins of ancient romans in Barcino. There is also some info of the visigodos and some of the medieval Barcelona. If you like history, you should visit.

Expérience fantastique: An absolute hidden wonder of Barcelona. The upper floors are cool with modern history of Barcelona as well as alot of items from every day life. Once you start down the floors and end up under the musuem you are brought back into ancient Roman rule with the the remnants of an ancient city. The way it integrates the raised floor/ walkway throughout the ruins without wrecking them is fantastic. The church is so reminiscent of an scottish churches during King James time. Seeing the currently restored great hall with the original paintings is a great addition. Having a security guard that new knew the history and obviously was passionate about it was fantastic. He went well above and beyond his job duties. He definetly made our tour go from ho hum to super. Highly recommended stop. One of the best museums for the money.

Expérience fantastique: Amazing museum where the top section has history of modern Barcelona and the underground has Roman ruins which the city and museum were built over. One of the most interesting exhibition types I’ve been to.

Expérience fantastique: Good insight into the contemporary history of Barcelona. Generally less busy and easy to explore. Do visit the archeogical

Expérience fantastique: A must-see in Barcelona. It doesn't look like much when you go in, but after you walk through the exhibits you get to go downstairs and walk through the ancient city of Barcino - like, actually walk through it on raised glass platforms. It was an unreal experience at an incredibly reasonable price - 7 euros, including the audio guide. You get to see all sorts of things - church, areas for food preparation, wine cellars, etc. It wasn't very busy when I went, so I got a great view of everything. You have to enter through a bookstore around the corner, so I had a bit of trouble finding it, but once you're in it's awesome.

Expérience fantastique: One of the best museums I have visited so far in Barcelona. The museum takes you through the metamorphosis of the city from the roman times till present day. The architectural transformations of the city through various political and economic changes was especially enlightening. Even more so interesting were the chambers at the basement with lots of old architecture and preserved walls, wine breweries, etc.

Expérience fantastique: Utterly surprised! Could easily spend a whole day here, amazing archeology. There’s a whole network of tunnels underneath.

Expérience fantastique: We loved this place! I had no idea the background of the city, and this museum shows its rich rich history. You can see ruins from its founding as a Roman outpost, through the changes brought by the church, and beyond. They did a great job of making ruins accessible and teaching, while preserving. English translations were provided in many places, and there were English brochures available.

Expérience fantastique: Fabulous for the Roman buff. Obscure for the less informed. The best example of a Garum factory I have ever seen. A real sense of the intensely close quarters the Romans worked in. Also the best wine production site I have ever seen. Of note at the medieval level is a Hebrew plaque indicating the establishment of a Jewish hospital. As effective, scientific medical practice was primarily a Muslim and Jewish field, this would be important for a sick or injured person who wanted to do more than pray.

Expérience fantastique: It's a great way to get to know the city's history a little bit more in depth. The audio guide makes it entertaining as well and you can go at your own pace

Expérience fantastique: Amazing museum. Great underground Roman time period structures, carefully and detailed explanation of Barcelona's history including Roman period, Visigoth period, Islamic period and medieval times. Must see when visiting / staying in Barcelona.

Mikko Moisio 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Great history Museum, lots of info for different ages, detailed medieval section upstairs. Huge underground excavation beneath. Whole Roman underground street with wine , garum and laundry factories. Plus later Visigoth churches build on top when commerce had collapsed. Worth visit, and not crowded.

Expérience fantastique: Roman ruins! If you are into history, this place is a field day. Explore the city as it used to be. The ruins go on and on. They had to chase is out when they closed

Kevin Nash 4 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Thought it was going to be a little look around a normal Museum oh no. This took us underground and what a gem to see remains of a Roman village. With an excellent audio guide you could actually follow and relive walking in a Roman village. So glad we found this place.

Expérience fantastique: Anyone fascinated with the Roman Empire will delight in this museum. Granted, it can be a lot to take in and I believe it very much was designed for local Catalons and Barcelonians (as it should have been, it is their local history museum!). I say that because it starts at the very beginning, the earliest neolithic sites discovered in the region that encompasses Barcelona, which date to about 7500 years ago. Fast forward a bit to what is likely to captivate most tourists from out of town: The excavated Roman ruins under the building. It is an archaeological treasure combined with an engineering feat in terms of the catwalks and walkways that provide you a tour, with plenty of English signs, above the day-to-day Roman era of ancient Barcelona, "Barcino". You also see the extent of the trade network that Barcino was a part of, for example a beautiful and distinctive amphora from Rhodes (which for me took me back to 1995 when I visited that amazing island). I found most memorable the large permanent clay containers that made up the bulk of a Roman fish sauce (garum) factory, which dates to about the third century AD. Pick a day when you will be in a patient mood, perhaps when it is very hot outside, and enjoy stepping back and below into this ancient part of the city, a story that is well told.

Expérience fantastique: If i could rate 6 stars, I would do it then. I bought the ticket with just 5 euros ( with student card), and I can visit all the places of MUHBA. The experience at the main place is unbelievable. With the narrative from the phone I can understand many precious points. Then I was delivered to the very first town of Barcelona. It’s like I was in two hour back in time, listening and observing ancient citizens living their ordinary life.

Expérience fantastique: Definitely a cool place to go to see Roman ruins. Definitely worth it if you can visit on a Sunday afternoon after 3pm. It's free!

Anthony Giordano 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: This was an incredible experience. Take an elevator down into the bowels of ancient Barcino, get lost in the labyrinths of antiquity! It's a bit spooky at points, but where else can you see history live and in person like you can here?

Syifa Zakia 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: It's a cool museum with a cool concept. The design drew you into the ancient atmosphere. It provides you with an audio guide in several languages as well. You pay EUR 7 (student: EUR 4/5) and you will be free to enter any other museums in their list.

Expérience fantastique: Unbelievable is th ed best way to describe this museum experience. It is amazing tu o see the various levels of civilizations who occupied the city, each one building on top of another. This is a great archaelogical dig and well preserved. Amazing.

Tamara Pav 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: I wish I could give this museum a higher rating than five stars. It's built overtop of Roman and Dark Age ruins, and the tour takes you through those excavated areas. One of the most unique and interesting museums I have ever visited. Highly recommend for all history and archaeology buffs!

mikaella theofanopoulou 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: History and evolution of the city from Barcino to Barcelona. Huge area full of great laid out excavations. History is well explained on the labels in front of the ruins. Very well presented! Congrats!

Claudia Cavariani 5 years ago

Expérience fantastique: This is a must do visit if you want to understand Barcelona's origins. Take a real trip to the past using the elevator and walk around the ancient roman city. The archaeological site is really well organized. People that fell claustrophobic should probably avoid it since you will be walking underneath the ground for quite a long time.

Daniel Acevedo 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Loved the Iberian, Roman, and medieval history and ruins. They put much work into a glass walkway that lets you go through the ruins without damaging them. I personally liked the old coins.

Sam Carr 6 years ago

Expérience fantastique: Brilliant Museum! Would highly recommend. You take an elevator down and slowly work your way up through the history of the city. Amazing place, basically a giant excavation underground.
