Esperienza fantastica: One of the best museums I have been to! Excellent exhibits, descriptive panels a and explanations. If you want to know about early Barcelona, from the 1200’s on, or are just curious about ship building and shipping, this is a must see. Kudos to the exhibit designers, curators and museologists for a job well done. Staff very visible and friendly

Esperienza fantastica: Probably the best Maritime museum I've ever been to. The number of ship models is astonishing

Esperienza fantastica: An excellent museum, beautifully curated. A full size galley ship is inside and incredible in addition to many many other exhibits. Absolutely no crowd, actually nearly empty on the Friday we visited. Not much for kids but great information on the history of Spain and how the strong influence of the sea shaped Barcelona for over 1,000 years to today. Nice canteen at the end for an excellent sangria and a beer with a pleasant shady garden for a rest.

Esperienza fantastica: The Maritime Museum of Barcelona is dedicated to shipbuilding between the thirteenth century and eighteenth century. The first mention of these arsenals date from 1243 in a document indicating the boundaries of the city of Barcelona where it mentions its shipyard. It shows the history of the navigation from the early days together with the history of the Spanish Navy since the Catholic Monarchs, in the 15th century, up to the present. It also hosts several navigation instruments, weapons, portolans and paintings. The museum was declared Museum of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia.

Esperienza fantastica: A hidden gem and have to admit reason for visiting the Maritime Museum in Barcelona was a little selfish. I had seen pictures of this place including the renovated wooden ship and the beautiful architecture had intrigued me. Had bought tickets in advance and it was definitely worth it; although I was visiting Barcelona during the off season of mid April. I wasn’t disappointed. Inside the museum layout was quite thoughtful and it was fascinating to see and read about life in wooden galleys of the past. Life was hard and maintaining proper hygiene was even harder (advancing ships will sometimes betray their presence because of the stench). However what takes your breath away is the renovated wooden ship restored to its most minute detail. The elegance. Color and paint. The beautiful curved hull and seating area on the top where sailors used to toil away. A must visit if you’re in Barcelona. And after you’ve completed your visit since it’s right next to Las Rambla (spelling?) you continue walking down the elegant boulevard. Perhaps, since you’re hungry after a two hour walk, grab a sandwich and a drink.

Esperienza fantastica: Dodged into here because it started to rain and we were so glad we did! We spent a very worthwhile few hours there. Well presented material and the Spanish galley is stunning. Nice cafe with garden seating as well - a quiet respite at the base of the Ramblas

Esperienza fantastica: For 10 euro... what can I say. Beats the 10 euro for park gaul. Lovely show piece and a large array of maritime history and more modern models

Esperienza fantastica: You must visit this! Superb exhibits in mint condition as was the whole of the old renovated shipyards. All displays with descriptions in three languages and not dumbed-down information for kids. Great food and excellent value at the adjoining restaurant/cafe. Included in the €10 ticket is entry an old sailing ship in the harbour ... I'm off the later today, guaranteed to be good judging by yesterday's visit. Thank you

Esperienza fantastica: One of the nicest courtyards in city, in spring is lovely with the smell of orange trees blossom, and the building is just amazing, gothic style, dating back to XIII century, and if you are lucky to visit on the day the medieval wooden door -gate ,(one Sunday a month, and on some local festivities, like 12-02, 24-09, only one left as part of the medieval wall, will take you to the lovely roof gardens, on a sunny spring day is a must

Esperienza fantastica: We really enjoyed our visit to this museum. It was back in February and still a lot of Covid restrictions were in place, but the museum stuff did a great job in organizing a safe and wonderful visit for everyone. The museum is very friendly, greatly organized and presents the naval history in a very entertaining manner. So, very recommended for families with children and for anyone who likes boats and history.

Esperienza fantastica: Like ships and/or history? Visiting Barcelona? Do NOT miss this museum! The best maritime museum I've ever visited. 1st, very large with very many super high quality displays of ships and related items. 2nd, there is a full-sized galley ship inside. It's based upon the flagship that fought in the Battle of Lepanto (super important battle centuries ago). 3rd, the breadth of what is covered is really impressive: models of ships of all types from ancient to modern, how critically maritime is to Catalunya and vice versa is shown very well with so many displays, descriptive text audio guides and short video recreation tie everything together, and all of the museum is within the rehabilitated ancient shipbuilding yards. Fantastic.

Esperienza fantastica: Absolutely amazing. Great fun for kids and also interesting for adults. It uses interactive technology to educate visitors.

Esperienza fantastica: We went to see the Escher exposition. Over 200 prints and lots of videos and interactions! There was only one woodblock (the cat) so we were left hungry for more.

Esperienza fantastica: A must visit place if you are in Barcelona. Rich cultural exhibition with amazing ships. So fascinating to see how Spaniards pulled it to South America

Esperienza fantastica: This museum is absolutely amazing, it's one the best I've ever visited. Barcelona's maritime history is charming and unique, I learned a lot about it and it felt like I was immersed in history and culture. The museum is located inside the medieval shipyard and they have a very interactive platform for visitors, with many games that help you understand how ships are made and how they work. We bought a ticket that also included a visit to a restored ship in the port, wich we totally loved

Olga German 3 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: I was really impressed by this museum with a great collection and an interactive way to present it. The museum is very spacious. Families come even with buggies. The most fascinating thing in the collection is a Royal Galley, a big full size replica of a ship. You can approach the ship and see it from above -on upper platforms. The museum takes you through interesting journey of sea. You can see how people used to build ships in the old times and till emergence of ship companies, how people lived on galleys. There are a lot of ships and models in the museum. The audio-guide is automatic,so you don't have to look for tracks or follow the same route. The guide will do it.The guides are in many languages. There are a few mini-theaters with video clips and timers,so you can see when the next video clip starts. There is a cosy cafe and a great garden to rest and enjoy good coffee.

Esperienza fantastica: Being a student of nautical archaeology and a big history lover I fell in immediate love with this museum. It did not hurt that I was able to escape the shopping and tourist hordes to be found in other parts of Barcelona. To be sure, the most eye-catching display is clearly the exquisite full-scale reproduction of the Royal Galley. It’s location under one of the grand arches, very much like many of the ships built here in centuries past gave the impression of a cathedral dedicated to ship building. Any maritime history lover or any lover of sailing or boats will enjoy spending hours here. Great multi-language support on the signage.

Martin 4 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: It’s a great spot for 90 minutes with modern multi-lingual audio guides included in the entrance. They lead you through the exhibition without entering numbers :-). Great information in three languages on displays, enough interactive displays for younger ones. Some explanations are a bit political to demonstrate Catalunya‘s stake as a country (using the kingdom of Sicily to throw out the French ;-)). Interesting facets about life and history on the sea. In a beautiful ship factory. To revisit.

Dan Mihai 4 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: I loved the museum. Apart from standard museum objects, you also have interactive displays which help to learn more about maritime life and history. There is a cafe and in the price of the ticket you can also visit a schooner which is anchored in the harbour.

Esperienza fantastica: Stunning maritime museum in the old docks building. Many interactive exhibits. Expect to spend 2 hours there if you want to see everything.

Esperienza fantastica: Excellent place for events. I attended the Barcelona International Community Day and it was very good. It has a huge room for conferences and small stands. Food was ok but a bit expensive. It also has gardens and historical maritime objects. The bathrooms were ok.

Esperienza fantastica: Very wonderful and interesting place to visit. If you’re interested i maritime and even if you bot you’ll like the mood inside of the open sea stories. Also a restaurant and souvenir store is included inside.

Milad ES 4 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: If you like history and boats from different eras this is the place for you. It has 1:20 models of all the important and historic boats. There are lots of other items related to boats such as engines, blades and items that used to be imported or export with the boats. There is also audio guide available in every language that makes the experience better. We spend around 30-45 mins inside. I would recommend it if you are close by.

Esperienza fantastica: Extraordinary place with a smell of nautical adventures. The 1:1 reproduction of royal galley is breathtaking. Even the unit of buildings of museum is beautiful and the garden as well. Little advice - don´t look through submarine window :-)) Outside exposition is in the port - berthed ship Santa Eulália which I liked soooo much.

Georgian Mateescu 4 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: My expectations were exceeded. The building is amazing and has an impressive history. The exibitions, ships, machets, clips and infographics along with the automatic audio guid that provides information depending of the area where you are, will make you appreciete more the city and his history. The restaurant inside is also a great place to eat and have some drinks. You will not regret visiting this place.

Carolina Marin 4 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: Definitely worth a visit, but a bit smaller than I had imagined given Spain's maritime history. A lot of models and well recreated replicas. Visit time: 2 hrs on average.

Esperienza fantastica: Historical place very well preserved and presented! You can have some feal of the challenging aspects from that time. The Museum is very light and you can explore at your own pace. There's also one afternoon per week to enjoy free of charge! You can enjoy the small bar outside, although the service is minimal the space is huge and very comfortable.

Esperienza fantastica: My 4 year old daughter and I visited the Maritime museum on a rainy day during our visit to Barcelona. The entry price was 5 Euros, which was an excellent value. The centerpiece of the museum is a full scale replica of a 16th century Royal Flagship, 'Admirals of Juan de Austria'. At almost 200' long it is an incredible sight and makes you fully appreciate the immense size of the building! The original galley was involved in the Battle of Lepanto in 1571. In addition there are many other smaller full size boats on display. In addition to the full size boats there are many extremely detailed scale models of ancient to modern vessels with a lot of presentations a out their history and use. I was expecting my four year old to be bored but she really loved the museum, and I was glad that we chose to go there instead of the aquarium.

Esperienza fantastica: The great place! At the first of all, you're possible to see absolutly amazing old gotic-style building. Cool location for no ordinary photos. By the way there is an interesting exhibition too. Old ships and marine items were made in XVI-XVII centuries. A ticket costs only 7€, but the pleasure you should get here s much more begger.

Esperienza fantastica: I visited the museum for the Game of thrones exhibition tour. It was very nicely set up and the museum was a nice location to hold it. I think the experience itself was good but overpriced for what it was. Be prepared for additional costs when you go in. Photo's, memorabilia is all pricey but the photo on the throne might be worth it.

Esperienza fantastica: Real great exhibits. Best of all every Sunday from 15:00 till close it's free. Allot of great model ships, multi language displays, and extremely clean and organized. The cafeteria there is extremely nice and huge and there is submarines outside. A must see in Barcelona. As a note as of 1/22/17 a portion of the museum is closed for new exhibits. Still worth going as much of it is open. But I'm sure the new addition will be amazing.
