🗣️ Smithsonian National Museum of African Art: Opinioni
Esperienza fantastica: My first time at a Smithsonian Museum, I found it to be very entertaining and educational. The staffs we're helpful to direct me to y desired floor. Exceptionally clean restroom, I like the little paper activity qustionaire, overall I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Esperienza fantastica: I like the modern interior of this museum. Admission is free to the public, which is located behind the Smithsonian Visitor Center 'Castle'. l liked all the exhibits and artworks, particularly the special gold exhibition. The museum is very warm and inviting, was not crowded and peaceful. Numerous areas to rest and reflect, also a plus.
Esperienza fantastica: Fabulous exhibits; definitely a must visit when in D.C. The Museum is easy to maneuver through from floor to floor
Esperienza fantastica: Very great museum, a lot of sculptures made out of trash, like the mask made out of shotgun shells
Esperienza fantastica: What is African Art? If you don’t know, this Smithsonian does a great job of informing you! It’s a great culmination of historical recollection and modern day culture. It’s self guided with 3 levels that take you through an amazing journey! The location is central to other exhibits such as the Hirshorn and The Washington Monument.
Esperienza fantastica: Exotic and beautiful art I loved to see it, this time I took my time to stay and walk slow with calm and I really enjoyed
Esperienza fantastica: Loved it. Alot of interesting african art.
Esperienza fantastica: Excellent experience and exhibits. This museum is a gem! Make time to visit on your next trip.
Esperienza fantastica: A definite must visit!
Esperienza fantastica: #VALUE!
Esperienza fantastica: My favorite of the Smithsonians. The standing collection has a solid foundation of African Art, the best in the United States. It is not as good as the Museo d'Orsey in Paris. The non permanant exhibits are best.
Esperienza fantastica: I caught this museum in my last hour in DC, totally by accident, while resting in the garden. I wish I had known it was there from the start because I could have spent hours--maybe days--in here. Spectacular collection. The temporary Nollywood exhibition was a vibrant highlight in an already incredible permanent collection.
Esperienza fantastica: We went to an event there which was very nice but it was after hours so we didn't see much of the museum.
Esperienza fantastica: Excellent retrospective of African art, both past and present. In addition to the traditional masks and carvings, they have a vibrant collection of innovative and sometimes shocking modern art. Be sure to go downstairs to see all the galleries on the lower levels.
Esperienza fantastica: Questo museo è molto interessante.
Esperienza fantastica: This museum looks like one of the smaller Smithsonians from the outside but what lies below will surprise you. There are multiple levels of art. The exhibits range from older historic headdress and paintings to modern sculptures and recycled art. The signs each give some insight on the artists' purpose. Note that some exhibits have been removed due to the Smithsonian Institution recognizing the trauma and history of the items, they are currently deciding whether to bring some slavery related items back.
Esperienza fantastica: The staff was excellent. The art was outstanding. Black is beautiful!!
Esperienza fantastica: If you are in DC, you must visit this museum. It has a lot of beautiful art from Africa. I do recommend the visit.
Esperienza fantastica: What a breath of fresh air! The African Art museum is absolutely stunning and full of culture, fun, and history. This place is incredible and may be one of my new favorite Smithsonians. When you walk in, to be able to see the exhibits you go down. Then, you go down again. Oh, and then down one more time. There are 3-4 levels to look at, and each one is further down into the ground. Just the setup in itself is so different from other museums and you feel how distinct it is. It’s hard to even know what else to say except that this museum is so breath taking and charged with emotion. The story behind a lot of the pieces is heart breaking, but I love that we get to learn more and be exposed in such a special way with this art. All I can say is, you should definitely visit this one. It will take you well over an hour or two, but everything is so captivating and it’s history and art that deserves to be shown and appreciated. Major respect and love for this museum!
Esperienza fantastica: We are hoping this museum opens again soon. We had a fantastic time when we visited. Robust array of exhibits and artifacts. So much to explore.
Esperienza fantastica: The African Museum of Art, at one point the ONLY African Museum on the Mall, is a lovely museum that, is sadly, rarely crowded unless they have school kids visiting. Friendly staff, clean restrooms, and a wonderful gift shop. Linked to the Ripley Center via a tunnel.
Esperienza fantastica: This museum looks small from the outside but spans 3 more stories underground. It's filled with thematic art as well as historical collections. It is a wonderful adventure through different perspectives and artistic mediums.
Esperienza fantastica: This place was cool. Very cultural, brought me in touch with my roots. Lots of cool stuff to see, and it is totally free. There's a lot of cool stuff happening near by as well. There is the Smithsonian castle and the Arthur sackler gallery right next door. This place is always adding new experiences and exhibits. The shrine in the Asian art section was mesmerizing.
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful art work and bigger than it seems. There's 3 floors and a direct passage way to visit the Slacker Gallery as well
Esperienza fantastica: This little gem was nice to get away from the busier national museums. Its art pieces change from what i understand from a repeat visitor i talked too, so I'm looking forward to coming back and seeing more art. Its beautiful inside too, i chaperoned a group of 12 students to d.c. and we really enjoyed taking in the art. The gift shop was nice too alittle something for everybody's budget. And the staff was super nice especially the first lady that checked us in. My favorite was the ivory husk and the snake eating it's tail made of gas cans and the wishing pond.
Esperienza fantastica: A great way to spend a morning or afternoon. The magnificent permanent collection is displayed beautifully and the special exhibits are worth seeing before they close. The gift shop is a great place to find hand crafted jewelry or African art that's unique and affordable. I've framed several pieces by Nigerian graphic artist Oladele Olaopa. Colorful fabrics inserted behind cutout sections make each one special. There are books, clothing, baskets and more.
Esperienza fantastica: So Much to Learn at this Place! I loved every minute I spent here. Although free for everyone, this place is well maintained and have clean bathrooms! The workers there are polite and engaging. You are allowed to take photos but you have to turn your flash off. If you want to learn about the countries of Africa and its beautiful people, this museum is a terrific place to start. Remember, although free, they do run on donations and I believe this Art Museum is worth your humble donations. Do visit!
Esperienza fantastica: Was an amazing experience. Definitely more space to move around and enjoy the exhibits more than some other Smithsonian museums on the National Mall.
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful beautiful beautiful... I love museums and this one has some of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever seen. It’s very sensory. With sounds and visuals the lighting all perfect. I could stay for hours. Not to mention the museums are free in DC, So that is a huge plus. It’s a place that keeps you interested at every turn. I took a few photos but there is much much more to see. If you are in the DC area I definitely suggest stopping by. Or dedicating at list one day of your trip to museum hop. The Smithsonian has a few different museums also a castle which is pretty cool as well! The museum was not crowded it’s a great place to take refuge on a hot day or a really cold day. They have bathrooms places to sit and usually a little cafe. Although food is not allowed in or around the exhibits.
Esperienza fantastica: Much larger than it looks from the outside, the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art boasts 3 stories of African art. The artwork ranges from contemporary art to the pieces you see in all of the text books. I would recommend for fans of art whether you are interested specifically in African art or not. You'll see beautiful, thought-provoking pieces and learn something along the way. If African art is a passion, be sure to check out this museum as it has the best collection in the world. There was a lot of renovation taking place while we were there. I can't imagine how great it will be once finished. It was already a beautifully appointed museum, very well laid out with very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Esperienza fantastica: Extremely well put together display of African American culture and history. The visual take you in a journey; so much to see!
Esperienza fantastica: Amazing museum! During a late April visit there were long lines for the Air & Space and Natural History museums, but not too many people were in the African Art museum. That was puzzling, but it made for a very peaceful experience. BTW, my party entered from a Victorian garden area after visiting the Castle, and missed the entrance sign , so didn't know what museum we were in. We went all the way down to the lowest level and thought it was just an underground administration building, until we stumbled into a gallery. I wish the whole Smithsonian campus had unusual entrances, as there's nothing quite like not having a clue where you are, and then having the art tell you your place.
Esperienza fantastica: A wonderful surprise finding of a Smithsonian Museum African Art Museum. This should not be confused with National Museum of African American History and Culture.
