🗣️ Saint John’s Hospital: Opinioni
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful building on the inside. The temporary collection Otobong Nkanga was eye-opening.
Esperienza fantastica: interesting exibition, modern art
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful collection of Hans Memling!
Esperienza fantastica: This museum has a very special atmosphere. Nice exhibition, friendly staff. The attic was unfortunately temporarily closed at our visit, but it was worth to come here.
Esperienza fantastica: Not a large museum, but it holds a dozen must see and unique world class masterpieces!
Esperienza fantastica: Very interesting exhibition in an unique historical environment. Excellent audio guide via smartphone.
Esperienza fantastica: The best place to see Memling's work. In context.
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful historical location to visit
Esperienza fantastica: Collezione molto educativa e sorprendente. L'abbiamo visitato insieme a Oude Apotheek. La conservazione dei pezzi è spettacolare e siamo felici di poterlo vedere di persona. Un must a Brugge. Di sicuro.
Esperienza fantastica: Really simple, well laid out and unique museum.
Esperienza fantastica: Very interesting middle Ages Hospital. Beautiful works by Memling! Superb triptyc in the hospital chapel! Loved it.
Esperienza fantastica: Excellent! Very well laid out and beautiful exhibits.
Esperienza fantastica: If you're at all interested in art the Memling museum is a can't miss.
Esperienza fantastica: Amazing history and stupendous paintings by Memling. Don't give this a miss; a must see!
Esperienza fantastica: I absolutely loved this. It included the audio guide. The artwork was beautiful, I feel very fortunate to see it. Well worth a visit.
Esperienza fantastica: Amazing collection of Memling works in a small location. Was originally here for his works but was surprised to learn a lot of early medical history due to being in the old hospital. Also good that the old pharmacy is part of the visit. If you want to really visit this museum plan at least 2 hours but we'll worth the visit!
Esperienza fantastica: excellent museum and exhibition. much recommended. I loved the surgical instrument display and 17/18th century pharmacy with ancient chemical names
Esperienza fantastica: One of the most interesting historical attractions in Bruges is the Sint-Janshospitaal (also referred to as the Memling Museum) located on Mariastraat. Entry fee is now (€12 per adult) and opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm (closed on Mondays). Here you find one of the oldest surviving hospital buildings in all of Europe with access a main ward building, an upstairs floor used for exhibitions with exposed 800 year old wooden beams as well as a detached pharmacy building (apotheek) that is delightfully maintained in its centuries old layout and appearance. What you will also find at Sint-Janshospitaal is a fine collection of artworks and treasures, including six masterpieces by Hans Memling. These include the remarkable Ursula shrines, detailed triptych works and very impressive altarpiece of John the Evangelist and John the Baptist. In short, anyone with appreciation or interest in Flemish Primitive art will want to make time to see these works in Bruges. Note: There is a nice herb garden area in between the main ward and the apotheek that is worth a quick walk around. Here you find a handful of interesting sculptures, busts and other monuments as well as delightful courtyard medieval architecture. A few park benches are present as well for those seeking peaceful place to take a rest.
Esperienza fantastica: Very pleasant visit, wonderful paintings, the audioguide is totally worth it. It is amazing how the attic managed to preserve itself for almost 1000years. Totally recommend!
Esperienza fantastica: Great and interesting permanent collection, displayed in one of the oldest buildings in town. The location in itself is quite interesting because of its long history as a hospital. (can you imagine the plague doctors and nurses caring for patients here so many centuries ago during the black death strikes? Medieval surgeons attempting the first surgery on patients?...) Also there are some fine works by Memling, as they were commissioned by the hospital's order. Sometimes there's a temporary exhibit as well. Like now (until 6 October 2019) you can see baroque art from Spain's Golden Age. Definitely worth the visit!
Esperienza fantastica: One of the oldest hospitals in the world. 1120. With an interesting collection of flamand primitives paintings and medical instruments.
Esperienza fantastica: Fascinating museum of a hospital that functioned continuesly for over 800 years. There is also a collection of paintings by Belgian artists. Definitely worth a visit.
Esperienza fantastica: The paintings, religious relics, and old medical instruments were fascinating. I highly recommend this museum.
Esperienza fantastica: Fantastic museum with some exquisite Hans Memling paintings. Fascinating history of an ancient hospital.
Esperienza fantastica: It's an impressive construction! Even if you won't find a lot of information about the actual medicine that was going on there, but it's worth visiting because of the art and the expositions that offer a beautiful story of the place. I recomand it as a doctor to give it a visit.
Esperienza fantastica: Nice exhibition of artifacts from the hospital, don't forget to visit the pharmacy and to get your headset. Also, don't forget to give it back, we walked out with ours and had to run back after we realized it was still around our necks
Esperienza fantastica: Interesting. The esculptures and paintings are very beautiful. My favorite one was an sculpture of Mary. It looks so real! After that you can take a boat to visit the whole city :)
Esperienza fantastica: You will get the most romantic view from a boat (10€ per person, duration 30min)
Esperienza fantastica: If you want to to immerse into the atmosphere of middle age hospital, this place is for you. It is not only about medicine. In my opinion, it worth seen because of its architecture. Don't forget to go upstairs, because there you will see beautiful vaulted ceiling, and it's really amazing
Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful building with amazing artwork by Hans Memling and other flemish artists. Right now there's an exellent spanish baroque exhibition there, very recommended.
Esperienza fantastica: Fascinating look at a hospital from the middle ages. Beautiful artwork. Examples of medical instruments and procedures. Pharmacy was very interesting and well presented.
Esperienza fantastica: Europe's oldest hospital, transformed now in museum and exhibition center.
Esperienza fantastica: Could not praise this place enough. Inspiring insight not only into early hospital run by nuns with art work, old carried chaise 'ambulance', herb garden and pharmacy laid out as used then, giving a real feel of the place as used then, but also lots of religious art and artifacts that are genuinely intriguing and each with a voiced description in your own language provided by a recorded player held like a phone to the ear so not distracting others (my 8yr old glued to). We also loved being shown the areas used by nuns to live, felt like a kid again exploring an beautiful old mansion. Staff in shop helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend to all.
Esperienza fantastica: This was an amazing place giving a good insite into how things used to be, and also the structure inside this building was superb. They must have worked so hard as then they didn't have the tools and machinery that we have today. Well worth a visit.
Esperienza fantastica: The attic space and apothecary are super well preserved, very unique, and worth visiting!
Esperienza fantastica: Nice example of flemish medieval architecture with works of flemish primitives (Hans Memling).
Esperienza fantastica: Small gem of a museum with some outstanding works by Memling and others.
Esperienza fantastica: We've walked past this site so many times and we finally visited - it's superb! There are some wonderful works of art including many by Hans Memeling. Well worth a visit! The Apotheke (Pharmacy), housed just up the street, is fascinating too and included in the admission price.
Esperienza fantastica: Very interesting. Use to be One of the oldest hospital in Europe now turn to be museum. Good place to visit. Take a note the toilets inside arena are not open all time
Esperienza fantastica: Quite possibly the oldest hospital in the world dating back to the 11th century. Story goes that patients weren't taken here to get their physical body treated but more so for their spiritual self to be readied for eventual death. The approach did change as medical science developed and patients did eventually get physical care in order to get better. Was a working hospital until the 20th century. Pretty cool.
Esperienza fantastica: Great exhibition, modern setting in antique surroundings. Only disadvantage was lack of English translation for exhibits, but there was a sign explaining they were working on changing the display
Esperienza fantastica: Great place to spend some time and an very excellent exhibition for old pharmacist utensils. It's very cool to be here in the old pharmacy laboratory between all the vessels of clay, glass, and tin and the beautiful old manuscripts. This is like a time journey into the beginnings of the European treatment culture. Back to the 13th century. Many thanks and greetings from Lower Saxony / Germany s. & w.r.pechmann #Localguide #OnGoogleMaps
Esperienza fantastica: Love the paintings by Hans Memling!
Esperienza fantastica: Excellent monument of medieval culture and architecture. There are small museum inside where you are going to find works of Hans Memling and other masters of XV century.
Esperienza fantastica: A truly educational visit which unfolds the history of one of Europe's oldest hospitals from its foundation by the monks and nuns of medieval Bruges through to its eventual closure in the late 20th century. The old surgical equipment is well worth a look. The hospital and the pharmacy just round the corner require separate tickets to visit so probably a good idea to get the 3-day Museum Pass for 20 Euros which will get you into these two and another dozen or so museums and historical sites.
Esperienza fantastica: Really interesting place. Well worth the visit.
