Esperienza fantastica: Really great museum about the history of the city - free entry as well. A good mix of artifacts and art. Easy to get to with a metro stop right across the street.

Esperienza fantastica: Great for understanding about the history of Madrid and free!

Esperienza fantastica: It’s free! I couldn’t believe it - and it gives a beautiful tour of the history of Spain, me and my son learned a lot! Not crowded at all (we went around 4 though.

Esperienza fantastica: I was pleasantly surprised by our visit here. Very welcoming staff, free entry, interesting temporary photo exhibition on ground floor and very nicely laid out and curated upstairs permanent exhibition. Congratulations to the interpretative panel writers, especially the English versions. Obviously a sharp mind and keen incisive text.

Esperienza fantastica: Loved that it was free to enter when we went, a great and fascinating exploration of the history of Madrid. The architecture of the building and interior was lovely too.

Esperienza fantastica: Fantastic and free to public. Very well done to capture the history of Spain/Madrid. Very interesting. The whole family enjoyed the leisurely stroll.

Esperienza fantastica: The History Museum of Madrid boasts a truly impressive doorway (late 17th century--go ahead, you know you want a selfie...), as well as a solid array of temporary exhibitions and a particularly informative, highly detailed permanent exhibition on the history of the city. Free admission and generally lightly trafficked--well worth a visit. Recommend planning between two and four hours.

Esperienza fantastica: Really cool place but we were only there an hour or so and didn't see everything. The map room area was really neat especially since we were staying in the old town and could see our street had been there at least since the 1600s. We got in for free, I don't know if thats standard. Great place for a quick overview of the history of the city.

Esperienza fantastica: We have wandered by this museum on several different trips and finally went in. It is free to enter and has a good collection showcasing Madrid's history. It was a good size, in my opinion. It wasn't so large that you stop absorbing what you're looking at half way through. I enjoyed all the maps and vintage photos of Madrid.

Esperienza fantastica: A great museum with alot of history. Alot of nice paintings and statues. It's free (gratis) and it was one of the best museums I've visited.

Esperienza fantastica: This was a real 'find' for us. If you want to understand why Madrid ended up being the city it is, make a visit to this place. It was free entry when we went and we easily spent a couple of hours here. Mind you we were trying to understand why Madrid came into being plus educate ourselves on Spanish history.

Esperienza fantastica: Big museum, but definitely need to change the floor.

Esperienza fantastica: The collection is not as rich as Prado's but it's pretty interesting. You'll get to know more about Madrid and it's for free. Gratis!

Esperienza fantastica: Great museum, it's FREE, the staff are very kind and helpful. It takes time if you want to go thoroughly so save a couple hours for it. It is great not only for the history of Madrid but Spain as well.

Esperienza fantastica: Very very nice. The temporary exhibit of Madrid under Filomena effect is worth the visit. But aside that all the history of the city is lay out in a very nice way with tons of memorabilia and maps of how the city developed over time

Esperienza fantastica: Beautiful building that made me think of Prince Albert's original Crystal Palace in London. This one in Madrid is free entry and remarkable for its design and construction.

Esperienza fantastica: Learned a lot about where American history comes from by visiting Spanish museums. Parked one block away and learned a lot of interesting information about Madrid. For example, Madrid was founded due to its ground water, flour mills, and its central location within the peninsula.

Esperienza fantastica: I had a great experience here exploring the history of Madrid. It’s free and you can get through the entire museum in about 1.5 hours.

Esperienza fantastica: The Museo de Historia de Madrid is a small, but excellent museum of local Madrid history. The only downside to this museum is that not everything has English description. On the upside, it's free and there's more than enough English explanation for so many of the exhibits, it's barely worth complaining about. The collections of fans, porcelain and gallery dedicated to the Dos de Mayo uprising are outstanding. A special honourable mention goes to the "Diana and Endymion" sculpture which should not be missed. Another hidden gem in Madrid that a little off the main tourist circuit.

Esperienza fantastica: Another great museum in a city full of world class museums. The museum covers the history of the city from the decision to make it a capital and seat of power to current day. There is a definite focus on the earlier periods but the collection of paintings is very nice for a free museum. There is also a nice collection of historical maps in the lower level that is worth visiting before you leave.

Esperienza fantastica: You need to bring 1-eur coins for the storage lockers (you get it back at the end). Entrance is free. I had more appreciation for the other tourist sites in Madrid (Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace, El Retiro Park) after visiting this museum. Worth the time.

Esperienza fantastica: A place you can not miss if you are interested in knowing the history of Madrid. It is free entrance. There is a lot to see and read, you must predict not less that one hour inside.

Esperienza fantastica: #Madrid #History #FreeMuseum To know more about Madrid, its history and evolution. Temporary expositions always related to Madrid topic. The one I saw was related to an Spanish artist called Mingote. Go to "-1" floor to see the Mock-ups and after continue the expo. Even is worthy to visit the building façade.

Esperienza fantastica: Museum worth to visit if you want to know a little bit more of the history of Madrid. Free entrance. Quiet and not too crowded.

Esperienza fantastica: Stumbled on the museum it of chance and didn’t regret. It’s free just need €1 to lock back pack. History of Spain from its humble beginnings to its greatness today.

chris james 5 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: World class museum in the former hospital that focuses on the History of Madrid mainly from when it becomes Spain's captial from the C16th to the beginning of the C20th. Beautiful interior space, well-thought out chronological order and explained in the signs in Spanish/Valencian and English. There was not need to take an audioguide and you'll need around 2 hours here.

Lucas Barreto 5 years ago

Esperienza fantastica: The place is clean and organized, with a good permanent exposition, having many paintings, small statues and other interesting pieces. The best part: it's free. So, if you're walking around Malasaña, I recommend stoping by to check out the museum.

Esperienza fantastica: This museum holds so much of the history of Madrid, it's free admission and there's the lovely garden. Worth a visit to spend a few hours.

Esperienza fantastica: Lovely Museum about the history of the city of Madrid. Shows how it became from a small town to a global capital of the Spanish Empire.
