Really wonderful museum. Great audio tour and collection. Well told story of Amsterdam and the history of this great city.
Amazing buildings with amazing collections of art, archeology, real footage of historic events, all about Amsterdam's history, (sub)culture, ambitions, growth, revolutions...
Excellent, really enjoyed it. We went on Sunday and it was €15 euro per adult with a free audio guide. Took headphones to plug in and off we went. Really cool and modern exhibition. Learning about Amsterdams history was really interesting, enjoyed learning about the origins of a city that is forward thinking and open minded and how that has endured through Amsterdam’s culture. They don’t take cash anymore, from Jan 2020, you have to pay by card. Ask for €1 coin at the counter to put your stuff in the lockers, they lend you the coin that you give back at the end.
If you're already here, visit this museum! You really get to know Amsterdam and learn all about its roots and people. I loved it!
You all get a detail history of Amsterdam from 16th century. Very well explained and maintained
Nice museum tracing the history of Amsterdam. Really influencial posters and quotes
If you are interested to know about the history of Amsterdam and all their fantastic journeys in the past, this museum is definitely the right place. Also, beside their main museum, there are other exhibitions that are nice. You need to spend around an hour to fully visit the main halls!
The museum promising to get knowledge of the history of this city. Basically you can walk just trough the side door path from main entrance and enjoy a unique carpet and keep your discovery direction to spui. I always liked to skip the busy shopping street and get some breath in secret garden in the neighborhood. (Begijnhof)
Beautiful museum! A wide variety of media types are used to convey the history of the city in a very interesting and beautiful manner!
Nice museum, interactive. With many languages(Portuguese)
A handful of interactive and informative exhibitions. Price of entry matches most museums in the city centre, but you get your fair return in well-presented material.
Nice yard near the museum, where you can see a small exhibition for free.
I loved the museum. I would actually rather recommend that people visit this museum than the Rijksmuseum.
A nice overview of the history of Amsterdam. You'll definitely learn some interesting facts. If you have a museum card, you can use it here!
This museum is in the city center. Mostly it’s about the city history. Kind of boring to me. But the architecture is great.
Amsterdam is probably my #1 city, although Heidelberg, Germany is a close 2nd. The museums here are extensive that have to be seen. We managed most of them, but because we didn't see all of them we'll need to go back. Darn!
Gives a very great review of Amsterdam history. It is laid out very nicely as well so that the timeline makes sense. There are interactive pieces during the tour as well. If your not a history connoisseur then pass on this. If you dont take advantage of the audio and actually read/interact with the pieces then you might want to find a different activity for the day.
You can learn about Amsterdam and its History and people's lives .
Great layout and flow. Not bombarded with too much information. Learned a lot about Amsterdam's history. Loved the self-guided audio tour
Very thorough and multifaceted presentation of the history of Amsterdam! Must visit if you wanna learn why Amsterdam is the way it is now.
I loved it, very interesting. Everything but one thing was working!
Very nice and large! The Amsterdam DNA takes 45 minutes at least alone! We barely scratched the surface of this museum and it was very cool and interactive. Lots of languages available for the audio tour that you keep with you.
Interesting stuff to see and hear. If you want to learn about Amsterdam history this is your place. Also it has an audio guide which is mandatory if you want to learn about Amsterdam. The place is big enough compared to the other major palaces and might take around two hours to give it a tour, that includes hearing everything from the audio guides.
I enjoy museums that give history, interaction, and uses modern technology. This museum has it. With interesting exhibits about the history of Amsterdam and how it relates to world history with its timeline throughout, it's worth a visit. Bring non apple iPhone headphones because you can't use them with the audio guide.
A fun museum which takes you through Amsterdam’s “DNA”. Lots of videos and interactive components!

Amazing place to easily get lost with the amount of artifacts this museum houses. The layout is a little confusing and maze like but it kind of makes it fun to navigate every corridor and level. They do have maps which do a pretty decent job about explaining where everything is. I still had to backtrack quite a few locations just to get a second look at some of the stunning artifacts. The audio guide is extremely helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the history of Amsterdam.
What a great museum! Don't miss this place. Gives a good impression of the history of the city and the lives of the various people having lived here.
