Very nice. Three exhibitions at the same time meeting international standards. We arrived rather late but could check the exhibitions till the last minute. 6pm.
Great museum with interesting exhibitions which changes from time to time.
One of the best museums in Rio. Can't miss it.
Good place to visit
Amazing art. Interesting layout with emphasis on the sea, immigrants and women artists.
There is a very nice view of Mauá square, unfortunately it is only open during the day, from 8am to 18pm. You can also enjoy the restaurant there, that has a very good food.
I LOVE this place. It's got great exhibits a lot of days and this cool brick Favela projet that was made and it's free to see. It's brilliant. (Located in the back!)
The Museu de Arte do Rio, MAR , in Portuguese means 'sea', is a museum that intends to dialogue with Rio's cauldron, from its exuberant landscape, a intent to generate and produce avant-garde art manifestations, and its home grown traditions. It has 7 floors and there's is a rooftop with open views to the Bay and the Museu do Amanhã, nearby. The best option if you want to visit both is to buy the "ingresso único" that allows you to access both museums in a 7 days period. It costs R$32,00 which gives a considerable discount. My advise to you is, DON'T waist your time trying to buy the ticket online. Go directly to MAR and buy there, and you'll avoid a huge queue to get in to Museu do Amanhã. You'll thank me for that! It's a pity that the exhibition, "O Rio do samba: resistência e reinvenção, is ending this month after a whole year opened to commemorate Mar's fifth anniversary. Its all thumbs up to the curators and the ambiance created to portray a history that still very much on. A long fight to resist against racism and segregation through ART. Art that becomes a political statement as if poor people, explored and manipulated couldn't even in their ghetto or spare time be happy, sing and dance. There's many facts in political life in Rio and Brazil related to the money laundering form illegal lottery, Nonetheless, when you go through the films, photos and objects collated in the 3 floor show, you'll notice how much effort was made by a huge collective of people to create and support Samba Schools and how many of the best lyricists and ,Brazilian musicians were born or drank form that spring to create some memorable internationally recognized songs. This exhibition should be put PERMANENTLY! Brazilians and foreigners must know this story and make their own conclusion to what is going on in Brazil right now with funk
It's not having exhibition right now, but it has a great architecture
Amazing place. The exhibition on the history of samba combined paintings, costumes, musical instruments, photography, videos, news clippings spanning several centuries. Truly world-class work.
Really, really awesome exhibits representative of the country & era & art scene. Wish we could have spent more time. Also went on a free entrance day!
One of the best museums in Rio, always presenting more than one exposition. The building is extremely beautiful, there's a rooftop with a amazing sight of the Guanabara bay area. On Tuesdays the entrance is free, but it's very crowded as well. If you go on any other day of the week (except Monday that is closed) you can buy tickets for visiting MAR and Museu do Amanhã with a huge discount.
Worth the visit. It's free until June 25th 2019.
So Special!!! We loved the samba place!!
Besides their itinerant exhibits on Rio life and culture, it offers the public what the city is best known for: a breathtaking view to the sea, at the foot of Rio's legendary Morro da Conceição. It's onward look to the city feats the remoduled boulevard, cutting edge museum of Tomorrow and an exquisite cuisine.
Amazing... the city is a little bit hot but the adventure is great. ...
Amazing building and spectacular exhibitions, our favourite was the Samba exhibition which had film, photographs, artifacts and art all related to samba and carnival. We even saw Carmen Miranda's head-dress.
Wonderful place! Simple and smart exhibitions... Don’t miss the roof top
It's a beautiful place with nice season expositions !
The Samba exhibit was extremely rich, insightful and inspiring.
Nice local Museum full of local history, from the Indians that originally lived there to some take on Brazilian modern artists. If you have the time, you can have lunch on top of the museum with some great views to the Museu do Amanhã.
Beautiful view from the top, nice selection of art
Beautiful classic building that was renewed and received a very modern annex. Always great exhibitions.
One of the best art museums in Rio.
Lovely art pieces. Clean and well organized.

One of the best museums of the area.
Beautiful place. Consistent exhibitions with much to see. You can buy tickets for this museum and Museum of Tomorrow at a lower price.
Recently renovated museum of art with great exhibitions
Great location for a museum! A place were you can find interesting exhibitions and a fine restaurant!
Really nice museum with a large collection.
One of the newest museums in the city, M.A.R. is definitely an option in Rio. The architectural solution to join the two buildings created a real masterpiece. Arts school and museum, nice café and shop on the ground floor.
Enjoyed a wonderful live jazz party here (free entrance). Great view from the rooftop.
Great place, awesome view
A museum that merits a visit. The landscape view at the roof level is amazing. I liked particularly the integration between modern and old architecture.
