Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Glorious gallery and museum set in a beautiful location. We visited during an organ recital, the sound of the music in the central hall was inspiring. There is a small café inside, which can be busy during weekends. Carparking available nearby.

Interesting experience. Parking available cost £5 for 3hrs. Great cafe on site, good food but check prices if on a budget. Also a coffee shop. Organ recital at 13:00 was top notch.

A truly amazing place to visit. From painted works of art to Egyptian artefacts, taxidermy animals to photographic masterpieces - Kelvingrove is a day out you can’t miss. And it’s free, has a cafe, and on Sundays at 3pm you can hear the grand organ being played superbly.

We stayed three days in Glasgow and we came back every day as there was so much to art to see: including the interior designs of Mackintosh, the art of the Glasgow boys, The French collection, the colourists, the Dutch and the 1pm Organ recital, so glad we didn’t miss it! Cafe provided a decent sandwich and cake and coffee plus good perch for the majestic recital. Was crowded by 1230 so plan well!

Beautiful building, amazing collection. Each painting is very detailed about the artist, dates and short analysis. Very well organized, maintained. Had a fantastic family day out.

Amazing detailing... The Museum is sectioned covering different types of historical information... History of Glasgow, History of Scotland in General...It does have a cafe in Basement... Toilets available at each floor and corners...

Wonderful building and fantastic exhibits. Spent whole day here. Lunch in the cafe which was superb and really good value. Went back later in the day for coffee/tea and homemade cake. The two shops had lovely quality goods at very reasonable prices. Staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. Highly recommend this for a day out

Plan your visit to the Kelvingrove Art Museum to be around an organ recital. The museum has a variety of exhibitions to allow a little something for everyone. The highlight for us was hearing the place filled with the music from the organist. Give yourself a good 2 hours to take it all in and that is moving pretty fast. 3 to 4 hours of you really want to digest the information about the displays.

We spent hours roaming the galleries. There's so much to see and in different areas of interest. A great day out and a feast for the eyes. I was particularly interested in seeing the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow style. Although it was only one gallery, it did not disappoint. A great array of art and artifacts. The only thing I wished if for the frescoes to be hung lower so I could get a better look at the details. That would be great if you could do that for my next visit to Glasgow, thanks! Hehe The building itself is stunning with beautiful details. Even the door handles were a work of art in themselves. The shop was well stocked with an array of goodies.

A favourite of mine. Love to spend time exploring and enjoying the beautiful pieces of art. There are many wonderful items to look at. There is a very nice cafe on the lower floor (or ground floor) if arriving using the back of museum. A must see If never visited. The architecture is also amazing

First time visitors to Kelvingrove Museum and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So much to view, something for everyone. Had some lovely food in the KCcafe. Very reasonably price, efficient, friendly staff. Service with a smile even when it was busy during the lunch period.

Excellent. Really great exhibitions. A particular highlight was the Egyptian exhibition. Great place for adults and kids. If hungry make sure and check out "the wee scullery" burger van outside in the car park. Excellent food.

Love Kelvingrove. Set in the West End of Glasgow, next to Kelvingrove Park (including skatepark) and a walk along the river, this museum is large and has (pay for) parking. Visitors enjoy the taxidermy section where you can get up close to stuffed elephants, a giraffe, wildebeest, birds, insects, deer etc. And read about their habits and habitat. Upstairs, there's a gallery filled with paintings (including Salvador Dali's The Crucifiction and sculptures. I've added a few pictures. There's plenty of toilets and a cafe, as well as restaurants nearby, including the vegan one, The 78. Great for a free family day out! If the weather is nice, you can picnic in the grounds, or in the nearby park.

An excellent day out in Glasgow. This museum and art gallery is a must for all ages. Very good exhibitions. The cost of a visit is free but they do ask for a donation which is no hardship at all. Got the subway there which is only a 5 min walk away.

This is one of the must see museum in Glasgow. It is a massive museum with magnificent art pieces and sculptures. The history of war and our forefathers is education itself. I visited it during Christmas time and just outside this museum an ice skating rink was set up for winter and it was awesome.

Must see experience in Glasgow. The amazing historical building itself is worth the price of admission. However, inside you will find a wide variety of cool exhibits with a lot of interesting displays.

Brilliant museum. Unlucky with timing as the Dali artwork is out on loan but still more than enough to make a day out of (sadly only had an hour and a bit to zip round!). Keep an eye out for the Rembrandt and Van Gogh work as well as the spitfire, animals and weaponry of all kinds!

There is something here for everyone. It’s a great place to go on your own or with a group of people that are interested in different things. There’s art, military history, natural history, anything you would want. Even if you only go to see the building and it’s beautiful architecture, it’s worth it. Admission is free.

Fantastic museum. A real gem of Glasgow so much to see and do. A real beautiful building with so many exhibitions and so much to see. You can easily get lost in here. Set aside the day for this so you're not rushed. If you're in Glasgow for the day, 100% come here :)

One of my all-time favourite museums on this planet! Brilliant collections, well lit. Staff mostly friendly. Like many other venues in Glasgow, it does appear to be running lower in funds for maintenance side of things, but at the moment I think only regular visitors would notice this. The cafe within does get very busy. Might be best to plan spending your breaks in the cafes and eateries nearby and head back inside afterwards. Highly recommended.

An excellent museum & art gallery free entry. There is even a Supermarket Spitfire. Great collection of The Glasgow Boys paintings plus French impressionists, The Colourists. Also a magnificent organ

Am visiting from the United States. Spent an afternoon here. Great museum. The architecture inside and out is beautiful. A variety of displays including natural history, Ancient Egypt, various art displays, local history and much more. The first floor seems geared mostly for children. The 2nd floor art galleries are more for adults. There is an organ recital. To me the underlying theme of the Museum is how Glasgow- Scotland influenced the world and how the world influenced Glasgow Scotland. The displays convey pride in this as it encouraged more progressive ideas in the city. Enjoyed our visit.

Wonderful place to visit with so much to see and learn. The architecture itself is breathtaking inside and out. Visitors, including me, were reluctant to leave at closing time.

Great gallery in Glasgow, easy to get there by the subway. Random bits of history put togheter in a gracious and interesting way! They have a really good restaurant there, and apart from that they have free pipe organ recitals, but check theirs schedule for that. Totally recommend, specially the Egypt part: they have some comics to explain the origin of some gods and also about the mummification. Entrance is free!

One of my favourite places to visit when I'm in Glasgow. Timed it right on my last visit to hear the organ being played. I love that you can see lots of natural history, rainforests, Chinese warriors, samurai, African history, ancient Egypt, teach the next generation about the important things that happened and should never be allowed to happen again, (holocaust, slavery and how the British Empire was built on the proceeds of slavery), and see works of art from the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Picasso and Salvador Dali alongside amazing Scottish artists and modern art, all under one roof.

What a gigantic gallery filled with stunning curations! Finally saw a Rembrandt up close! There is a great selection of paintings, artefacts and items. I only had an hour there which was not nearly enough. I suggest allotting 2.5-3 h to peruse everything at a leisurely pace!! Free to the public.

Very interesting! I spent hours inside this museum, which has several sections, with themes focused on archeology, history, the contemporary world, art. During the visit I enjoyed an hour of listening to the organ played to the public. The Kelvingrove organ is one of the most famous in the world. For free.

I have been coming to this museum since I was a child, I still find the stuffed animals slightly discomforting as I did when I first saw them when I was very young. The exhibitions continue to change and evolve to make best use of the exhibits, there are always the sounds of young excited children asking questions. There's lots to see and do and if you are lucky you can listen to the beautiful pipe organ being played at lunchtime. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The building itself is in beautiful condition set in a beautiful park near the University. There is reasonably priced parking on site, a coffee shop and a cafe. Go and see for yourself you will always see something new and learn someting interesting, it is free just as all the Glasgow museums are.

This building could have no art in it at all and it would still be worth visiting for the architecture alone. But luckily, there is lots of amazing art too. What a wonderful place to come.

Favourite building in Glasgow since living there in the 80s and visiting regularly since. Although at our recent visit I encountered ironic Glaswegian humour when we arrived just 20 minutes before closing. I asked a member of staff where we could see the Dali picture Christ of St John of the Cross. He replied, "Barnard Castle!" I eventually realised that he wasn't joking - as it was out on loan.

If you love history or like to visit historical places, you should visit the museum. Pretty much accessible and easy to locate. They open by 11 am so don't rush.

What an amazing display of history and art! So much depth and culture in one place. In a building of stunning architecture!! The pipe organ concert was stupendous and a real treat!

Really cool museum and gallery. It's smaller than usual museums but they have enough interesting pieces and artwork including Matisse, van Gogh, Gauguin, and Monet. Plus it's free! Highly recommend!

Oh my fùc..... Lord is amazing AMAZING Place. I spend half day today and don't even see half. Beautiful stunning place. They have 22 galleries for discover everything from art to animals, Ancient Egypt to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and so much more. Entry is free , coffee is delicious. You must go there, YOU MUST GO THERE

Kelvingrove gallery and museum is massive. We can spend all day here it was a wonderful, enjoyable and an educational experience. We couldn't believe it was free to the public given it's extraordinary displays of history and works of art from Scotish artists and designers.

I was really surprised by the variety of items on display. It really is the best of both worlds, an art gallery plus a museum. Items from Egypt to modern times. Look at the photos on google maps and their website to see the vast assortment of items in the museum plus fantastic selection of art work in the gallery. At 1pm there was an organ recital, which was unexpected but well worth sitting down and listening to. If your legs get tired, there are 2 cafes, one in the main entrance with great views of the organ, plus a larger cafe downstairs. The prices were very reasonable. There is also a souvenir shop on the lower floor and plenty of toilets. I went by bus as there is a bus stop right outside but there is also a car park at the rear.

This is a must visit if you’re in Glasgow for a short time. Beautiful museum. When I visited, there was a person performing on the organ and a lot of people were there to listen so I suggest checking their website for details. My favourite exhibition was the photography exhibition by Eric Watt who captured Glasgow between the 50s-90s. Very touching documentary/street photography at its best. If you’re here don’t miss it!

All we EVER do when coming to Glasgow is Shop,but having booked an extra day's stay we decided to come here and O.M.G!!!What a truly amazing place this is.My mum and I had a fantastic time wandering around all the different exhibits.We liked the way it was set out so that you don't miss anything.We were also treated to an organ recital by an extremely experienced organist,bravo..The strangest thing was that for all the amazing things on show,for example the metal warriors,the RAF plane and even the heads in the foyer there was 1 piece that truly captivated us...And that was the picture of the man looking out the window!!!I don't know why,but we stood for ages just staring at it.Thank you for a wonderful day.You must visit ❤

Magnificent architecture, amazing interior, endless beautiful artifacts in there. You need at least half a day to visit. Free entry. Close to the university. Just perfect.

Think a cross between a Natural History Museum and Art Gallery. Clean facilities, clear maps and simple layout. Lots of nice stuff from Scottish History to moose bones to French Landscape art. Well worth a visit, and it's free (make a donation). Attached to some parkland by the river too, which doesn't hurt. Well located parking if that matters, but 5-10 mins from the subway too.

Great Museum to visit if you're interested in a all rounded history. Quite a big Museum ranging from historical animals to historic weapons, paintings you name it. There will be something that will catch your eyes. The Cafe was alright so a place to chill to have before or after the walk around. Outside has plenty parking spaces at a cost and nearby parks although the area is nice but some certain local youths clearly are still stuck in their small minded minds who has never left glasgow probably which I don't blame them for that. Other than that a place to visit with family or friends

The organ recital was fantastic. Enjoyed the exhibition on the Glasgow Boys artists. Some beautiful paintings. Also loved the exhibition on Mackintosh and the other designers around during his era. Sadly I did not have enough stamina to view the rest of the museum . Will be back if ever in Glasgow again.

Amazing free museum! Quite an interesting diversity that will content everybody! Loved the paintings sections and the Dali painting which is - for me - the highlight of the collection! But a lot of other pieces of art from sculptures to videos or objects; the Egyptian section really seemed to attract a lot of people! Went to it twice cause it’s huge and it’s highly advised to go during the week where the place was a lot quieter!

One of the best art galleries and museums in the world. Stunning paintings and the Mackintosh display is breath taking. But everywhere you look there's gorgeous stuff. And don't miss the Dali. Its out of the world. Where else would you sea a Spitfire and a dinosaur.

Amazing place. Definitely you should visit this gallery if you are in Glasgow. Many masterpieces are collected there. I think minimum 2 hours you need to walk around. But better to have half of the day.
