This place cought my attention and i visited just a 20/30% of museum. History of humanity, philosophy, those things making this place top-3 museum that i were into
Very diverse collections: from furniture and design to photography. Also a very interesting project of provenance.
The exhibitions are wonderful. But the guards are awfully discourteous. One was blocking my way out, I said "Hello" to his face. Friendly af. He looked me in the eye and didn't even bat an eye. He said nothing.
Went for the seven women in fashion exhibit. It s fantastic. Not to be missed if you're into fashion and clothing, and their place in history.
A must in Hamburg. The German version of the V&A in London. It won't disappoint!
Huge museum, everyone will find at least one interesting exhibition. Recommend!
Cool museum, with all kinds of history. Go here when in Hamburg!
I think I spent about four to five hours in this museum. The museum shop was also amazing with lots of variety and amazing products.
Beautifuly curated museum of applied arts.
It's an amazing collection, impossible to see it all in one visit. My favourite galleries were those of ancient Greek vases and Art Nouveau. Do not miss it!
Very good gallery. Thanks
An outstanding museum with a vast collection. Easy to spend a day at. Very conveniently located, right to the subway.

Great museum with wide selection of items.
Loved the museum which has so many different types of sections and you can easily spend 4 hours going through them. A must visit among the many Hamburg museums. Another nice thing is they have kept small seating areas for the guests in every other section as it's helpful to relax in between ☺️

This museum surpassed my expectations by far, even with some closed exhibits. I came expecting to spend 1-2 hours and left almost 4 hours later. Their collection is impressive and well organized. The information provided with the collection items is interesting and informative. Their special exhibits were fun and relevant and engaging. I will absolutely visit again the next time I'm in Hamburg.
I loved visiting the museum. I particularly enjoyed the exhibition called "Heimat" questioning about what "Heimat" is. Also, the Die Spiegel Kantine is amazing. A lot to see and beautiful object. It's worth visiting it
An excellent and diverse collection with a lovely staff. The only thing I didn't understand was the self-serving restaurant—strange dishes tailored for the select few—no Maestro or Credit Cards. For foreigners, cash only. Start at the top floor and work your way down.
excellent exposure. very high quality selected exhibits and their presentation
I really enjoyed it. Interesting and varied exhibitions from world cultures. It's worth a visit.
Wide variety of exhibits, reaching from historical instruments and religious art over to modern design. Would definitely recommend visiting this museum because whatever you're interested in, you likely find an exhibit that you'll like. Enjoyed visiting it a lot, the "Heimat" part is well done and worth watching.
This is an amazing collection with the oldest piece in the museum dated back to 4000 years BC. I ended up spending 4 hours engrossed in the exhibits and it still wasn’t enough. The classical instrument collection was incredible - really really breathtaking. It’s a great flow through the museum with plenty of interactive exhibits
This museum blew me away, I didn't expect it at all. Take what you think of an impressive art trough the ages museum and give it steroids. There was actually well implemented vr, animation, mixed media, everything was so cool. I definitely recommend this to everyone and anyone!
Very wide range of exhibitions. From ancient art to modern graphic design!
Amazing Collection covering arts and artifacts from around 1000 bc onwards. Ranging from music instruments, to statues, to a fantastic samurai collection. Islamic, and Jewish halls with relics on display. Must visit. Highly recommended.
Small but very diverse. One of the most favourite museums so far. Especially worth seeing the pop art rise and revolution exhibition. Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed a quick visit before we flew home. Loved seeing all the exhibitions and chatting with the talented craft folk who were there.
Very interesting place! Very friendly staff, photographs and pictures are allowed, just no flash. The place has a lot of interesting exhibits, across time, and cultures. There's older and more modern exhibits, lots of very interesting Renaissance sculptures and other modern art as well. There was a display about companies and their advertisement art style. There was 3 levels with at least 2 independent sections per level. Also very close to the bahnhof so great place to stop by to kill a couple hours before taking a train.
Incredibly close to the bus and train central stations this museum offers a very nice experience either you are familiar or not with Design, photography, ancient Egypt, east Asian and Islamic art. Story of design? Of course, you name it. Don't forget to go to the Cafe inside.
Extremely interesting museum with so much to see that it would take several days to take it all in. The combination of arts and trade offers several ways of exploring the rich history of German and European art. Excellent presentation with lots of visual and auditive information as so often in a German museum. The collection of historical keyboard instruments (including harpsichords and pianofortes) is extensive and world-famous.
This is truly enjoyable museum. So much to see, from Greek antique pottery to art nouveau and industrial design. I only had 3 hours to visit, but it's well worth spending an entire day. The collections are varied and extremely interesting. One of the most enjoyable museums of its kind I've seen so far.
I was in the 60s art exhibition and it was amazing love it
Very good museum. Wide variety of exhibits. Good, detailed information. You can learn here if you are not careful. Plan to spend 3 to 4 hours easy.
A really well set out and interesting art gallery. We could have stayed all day but only had a few hours - I will definitely be going back. The Arts and Crafts section is amazing as is the Ancient art. The Polaroid Exhibition that was on was really well curated and super informative and interesting.
great museum to spend a day indoors on one of those rainy hamburg days
Went here today (Ostermontag) it was really nice. Loved The Polaroid Project. The museum was quiet and not many people at all. Perfect. Staff was friendly.
Very quiet and high-quality museum to go. Have lockers and cloakroom service!
Some outstanding examples of decorative art and craft are here. The entire museum has the best vibe of any that we have experienced; you really get a sense that life is being lived to it's full potential within these walls. One visit will not let you be able to appreciate every on offer.
everytime I went there, there was a different photo exhibition. As a simple individual who doesn't know much regarding art, these photo exhibition selections made me feel and think a lot.So I would really recommend this art museum especially for this part.
Cool museum, next to Hamburg bhf
Great place. We went there last Sanday. The Food Revolution exhibition is an open eye to anyone who cares about food waste and the way how the food industry treat animals for consumption. It has interesting design collection from many years ago. The building is a minimalistic piece of art itself. Great collection of musical instrument especially piano forte and similar since 1800+. I missed more German history on it.
Biiiiiggggg , Love it. I need to go for a second time. This is a place for people who likes art or history. But from time to time they have always something new to show to the public. Like the game Master were kids and adults could go and try all types of games from Atari to the most advanced game in this moment. It was awesome. The photograph gallery. ....... excellent condition. Clean, you have to leave your belongings in the reception. A little bit expensive but I awesome. Kids don't pay.
Excellent displays of many interesting artifacts. The museum itself is easy to traverse, and you can safely store your things in lockers before entering.
Large museum with plenty of interesting things to see. Ticket price for me was €12 and the price was worth it. I gave myself 2 hours to look around and I only explored 2 out of 3 floors. The facility is very nice and most of the exhibit descriptions are in both English and German. I would go again.
One of the most amusing museums i've ever been to, Its a mix between old art and modern art. Price isn't to high. Super interesting exhibitions. And to top it off super great staff, I wanted to purchase a book, but they only had german copies, they searched everywhere they could but unfortunately couldn't find any. I just missed out on the sneaker expedition so there where no posters for that expo available to buy, the lovely lady at the cashier made some phone calls for the poster, and they gave one to me for free! Really recommend this museum!
