You can spend a whole day enjoying art

Paolo Caroli 1 year ago

It takes a day to fully visit the exhibition. You don't eat inside. There are numerous paintings and ... floors. The audio guide doesn't explain that much. You can enter without a pouch or backpack. In any case, the paintings of Bruegel the old and the young, that is the son who lived by copying his father's paintings, and Bosch are unmissable.

Essential museum of the Belgian capital. The tour will allow you to see the evolution of painting from the primitive Flemish to modern times, highlighting great names such as: Rogier van der Weyden, Robert Campin, Pieter Brueghel, Anton van Dyck, Rubens, Jacob van Ruisdael, Jacob Jordaens, Rembrandt or Jacques-Louis David. (the famous "La mort de Marat" is fabulous). In addition, it allows you to discover new lesser-known but high-quality artists, such as the sculptor Mathieu Kessels or the painter Petrus van Schendel. We are looking forward to visiting the Fin-de-Siècle too!

Very nice and large art museum. If you like sculptures at least a bit, paintings are the perfect place for you. Very large, the ticket costs 15 Euro per adult 5 Euro per student. I recommend it very much, I spent about 3 hours there

Museum that is part of the complex of 4 museums that belong to the Royal Museums of Belgium at this address in Brussels. This is the main among these 4 museums for its high historical value. As Belgium's premier art museum with an incredible collection of arts spanning a period from the 15th to the 18th century. The museum was founded in 1801 by Napoleon Bonaparte.

A good museum with interesting pieces. It has the right dimensions for a museum, in a couple of hours you have it done. It doesn't take long, and you don't feel like you've been cheated on the ticket. Super attentive staff.

Excellent art. Need some time, but fast travel can be done in ~1:30 when you have a big list for the city break. If you can spend even 2-3 hours, because it's a top 5.

Very good museum, but the lighting of the paintings should be adjusted: sometimes may be difficult to see the paintings Especially liked Bruegel !!! Would come here again for Bruegel, David, Rubens etc !

Magnificent museum with exquisite art works. Old paintings are mostly concentrated on 2nd floor with numerous rooms and, of course, paintings. Definitely worth visiting during your stay in Brussels Belgium, which is not only the European capital, but also a place where the most famous works of art are concentrated.

Bruegel and his work make the tour of the museum a journey with messages that are valid through time: The collections of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Brussels are a basic appointment in Belgium.

This museum is fascinating! All the best-known master paintings that we saw in our history books at school are there, it's amazing. A breath of fresh air from the Renaissance and Baroque! I was able to attend the Bruegel exhibition which totally exceeded my expectations. Go there with your eyes closed ... no no .. wide open !!!!

This has an excellent range of paintings especially if you are into the works of brueghel and bosch.

A must see museum if you're interested in Flemish painters. The interior is comprised of large well illuminated halls. Most of the works are in very good conditions.

This part of the royal museums is probably the one which contains the most beautiful treasures and the most beautiful works, and which alone deserves a visit. The lobby is also worth a look.

It was behind these canvases that I came to Brussels ... The Museum of Old Masters mostly presents paintings by Flemish artists ... The exhibition is divided into eras. Canvases of the XV-XVI centuries are collected on one floor. Here you can see the work of the so-called Flemish primitives: Rogier van der Weyden, Dirk Bouts, Robert Kampen, Hans Memling, Petrus Christus and Hieronymus Bosch (The Temptation of St. Anthony). In the halls devoted to the painting of the XVI century, collected paintings of representatives of the schools of Bruges and Antwerp. One of the halls is dedicated to the paintings of Gerard David, the other presents the works of Quentin Mathays. The last room on this floor is dedicated to Bruegel, the father and one of his sons, Peter Breugel the Younger. Another floor is reserved for painting XVII-XVIII centuries. It contains masterpieces of Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens ... + Frans Snyders and his student Jan Fit ... Super ... and there are also canvases by Dutch masters, Italian and French .. 3 hours in the same breath ...

The Oldmasters museum in Brussels displays paintings from the 15th to the 18th century. One can find works by Pieter Breugel, Pieter-Paul Rubens, Jordaans, Van der Weyden, Hieronymus Bosch, Van Dyck, Memling, Bouts. The museum is spacious and quiet so you can enjoy these masterpieces of the Flemish, Dutch, French and Italian schools.

The museum, one of the royal museums of fine arts in Belgium ... the painting is simply beautiful ... spent a total of two and a half hours here .. In the collection of the Museum of Ancient Art there are about 1,200 works of European art, covering the period from the XIV to the XVIII centuries. The collection is based on Flemish paintings, almost all Flemish are represented by their significant works. Among the paintings “The Annunciation” by Robert Kampen, “The Pieta” and two portraits of Rogier van der Weyden, several paintings by Dirk Bowts on religious themes, Petrus Christus and Hugo van der Goes, several portraits and “The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian "Hans Memling," Madonna and Child "and the triptych of the Leuven brotherhood of St. Anne Quentin Maysis," Venus and Cupid ".... the museum contains 7 paintings by Peter Bruegel (the Elder) including the famous “Fall of the Risen Angels”, as well as “Adoration of the Magi”, “Winter Landscape with Skaters and a Bird Trap”, “Bethlehem Census”, “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” (early copy), “Wine on St. Martina ”(early copy),“ The Yawning Man ”(authorship is disputed). The work of Rubens is represented by many canvases, including "Christ and the Harlot", a sketch with the heads of blacks, "The Adoration of the Sages", "Carrying the Cross", "The Martyrdom of St.. Livinia "," Martyrdom of sv. Ursula "," Landscape with the hunt of Atalanta "," Portrait of Petrus Pekius "(?)," Miracle of sv. Benedict, Fall of Icarus, Drop of the Titans, and Coronation of the Virgin Mary. Cloths by Jacob Jordaens: "The Praise of Pomona," "St. Martin heals the obsessed "," Susanna and the Elders "," The Contest of Apollo and Pan, "" Satyr and the Peasants. " Van Dyck's paintings: “Portrait of Jean-Charles della Faye”, “Portrait of the sculptor Francois Duquenois”, “Portrait of a Genoese lady and her daughter”, “Rinaldo and Armida” ... In addition, Peter’s Flemish collection of the Museum of Old Art is kept Bruegel Junior, “Storeroom” and “Deer Hunt” by Frans Snyders, “Drinkers in the Courtyard” by Adrian Brauver, “Flemish Fair”, “Card Players” ... The Dutch collection of the Royal Museums is modest, but it is notable for the quality of the exhibits. These include the image of children and several portraits of Frans Hals, Portrait of Nicolas van Bambeck, works by Rembrandt, The Common Glass by Peter de Hooch, The Meal by Gabriel Metsuys, View of the Harlem Sea by Jacob van Reisdal. The most popular exhibit in this section of the museum is a triptych “The Temptation of St. Anthony "(a copy of an unknown artist from the workshop of Bosch) ... There are still very interesting canvases of Italian and French artists ...

Wonderful gallery. Sometimes images are alive, it's magic.

Beautiful collection. I recommend taking your time and getting to know the story of the paintings, even though there's a big section of religious works that might not be immediately interesting to you- a lot of them have hidden quirks and neat back stories.

Very nice museum and beautiful presentation of the works. The collection is very large, it is necessary to plan several hours of visit in order to take the time to see everything.
