🗣️ European Museum of Modern Art: Meningen
A staggering collection of highly crafted modern art. After being completely overwhelmed by the first floor, I was giddy with excitement when I learned that two more floors were above me. If you have even a passing appreciation for art, this place is worth a visit.
Unique collection, well curated. Who knew that figurative realism was so popular in Spain? Who knew that 'figurative realism' was a movement? 1 Hour is probably enough to visit the 2 floors of this museum, but it is definitely worth the price of admission to see a category of art that you probably didn't know existed. (they also allowed photos, which was a nice touch)
Love the modern art, the quiet atmosphere, and how often there are new exhibits. One of my faves!
Very impressive art from different artists. Some artists were even present in person.
Such incredible art! This is a very fine curated collection.
I loved it all the way! It took my 2 hours to enjoy when waiting for my time slot for Picasso Museum.
#VALUE!
Best Museum I‘ve ever been too. Been here for the third time and it is always stunning. Big love
Beautiful. I was blown away

A jewel of a museum! Outstanding figurative and realist artworks. The works really draw you in emotionally.
Smaller but beautiful museum. All the buildings in this part of town are incredible. The price is a little much for the size but there is currently a Groupon for half price. Either way it is worth a visit if you are in the area.
Absolutely an amazing experience
Lovely museum for a quick visit. Interesting collection of modern European art. The robot tour guide caught me off guard lol but actually was very helpful
Amazing museum and amazing art works of modern artists. Must see places in Barcelona.
A fabulous art museum. I found it while browsing the Picasso Museum Barcelona. It is just a step away. Its collection is focussed on figurative art works. The sculptures are outstanding. It is a private initiative of the Foundation for Art and Artists. It has both permanent gallery and temporary ones for periodic exhibitions. In addition, the foundation/ museum organises a number of art related activities. The spaces are also available for private activities on rent basis.
One of the best art galleries I've been to. Amazing atmosphere, the exhibitions, music in the background, everything is just right. Highly recommend. I am a regular visitor.
Mind shattering art and picturesque toilets. The staff speak all the languages in the world and give free donuts from time to time. Strongly recommended!

MEAM is a true gem of a museum that shows a rare collection of contemporary realist painters and sculptors. It has an art collection from artists of all parts of the planet. Personally I love seeing a museum that shows works of contemporary artists who are remarkably skilled, who can paint, draw and sculpt. Unfortunately majority of contemporary art museums tend to focus on art that is far too distant, way too conceptual and often is shaped in a form of unattractive, unskilled and simply boring art installation. MEAM is an active museum that organizes art contests with the intent to promote some of the best art produced today. This is a museum to watch closely, a place to visit multiple times since the collection changes and expands.
One of the places I enjoyed the most, maybe because I am an art lover :-)
Great contemporary artwork. Probably the best display of contemporary work that I have seen.
Awesome place to spend a couple of hours. La Guardia was closed due to snow, so they offered me a first-class ticket to stay one more night in Barcelona! Next morning I had breakfast and walked straight to the museum. They had an exhibit of the drawings Picasso made on bar napkins and such. A young lady next to me kept wondering outloud what the writing around the drawings meant. When I told her that it was erotic expression she blushed and walked away muttering a thank you, LOL!
Fantastic museum! Must visit!
The museum has two halves - one permanent exposition and one that changes regularly, so check the website so you know what to expect. It is not very frequented outside of scheduled events and overall a great experience.
I was quite surprised by the quality of art. I went inside and it triggered a variety of emotions. From the music, to the lighting, the sequence of paintings... I wish there was a curator to ask different questions. They played Abel Korzeniowski, it was so touching at some point, I Had a tear coming up from the emotions and feeling through the art. Artists from different European countries of the world had been putting on the art paintings in different rooms. What I also understood is that they had musical performances inside. I loved the quotes inside. One of them: “What modern man has completely lost is their desire for permanence. His work no longer aspire to last eternally but simply to fulfill their small, limited, momentary vision of the instant. Modern man does not understand - too obsessed with himself - the meaning of the word eternity. He wants to be he himself, personally who wants to exhaust all the creative possibilities that were previously were previously conceived in centuries. He wants it to be he himself, personally, who wants to exhaust all the creative possibilities that were previously, conceived in centuries, he wants it to he himself who enjoys the applause which before only arrived after death.”
Amazing museum! Lots of cool artists. All the paintings and sculptures are astonishing and awe-inspiring from the beginning til the end. Everything is impressive. The tour can be completed in less than an hour, but we spent there more than 2hours. Highly recommend
Such a beautiful museum, the display is so unique and the background music.. wow!
An original point of view of modern art, not excessive, three levels for a pleasant itinerary among aesthetics, colors and interpretations.
My favourite museum in Barcelona. Amazing. I loved it. Picasso is nothing compared to this. Here I felt vibrant and alive. Will come back next time I visit. Then also hope to hear some music. :)
Well, to start with a preview on the definition of modern art, as the main objective of Modern art was to set aside the traditions of the past and put more emphasis on experimentation with a new perspective of seeing the world. People often get confused with the word ‘modern’, as a term to describe something new and fashionable, but rather it refers to the artworks produced during 1860-1920s. From this perspective, this place offers a handful of striking and a very well curated collection of paintings mostly by Spanish artists. It has a collection around lbgt which is very impressive. The museum is located in a nice neighborhood and those alleys are so beautiful. Also a few museums such as picassso, hemon etc. just around the sane area. Good luck!
The art collection here was dramatic, visually striking, and thought provoking. Our entire family enjoyed the dept of emotions and the emotional views of live depicted in the works here. If you have a hang up over nudity then you will struggle. But if you want to glympse the human condition via talented sculptors and painters the I highly recommend visiting here
Very interesting private art collection, we also had a chance to be part of musical performance the museum hold on Fridays and Saturdays. We paid €14, they usually have it every Friday and Saturday, if you like classic music or jazz it is really worth to combine. The concerts run on the second floor in biggest central room what use to be placed for big parties and balls. You seat near small table were tea with cookies are offered for you.
Small spaces with individual rooms ro more privately appreciate the works of art. We were pleasantly surprised to have the opportunity to enjoy two local musicians at the end of business. The room for music is small, up close and personal and beautiful. I would absolutly recommend you take advantage of this opportunity, tucked away in the old city.
With four floors of breathtaking sculptures and paintings, The European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) surpassed my expectations. If you're staying anywhere near the El Born district of Barcelona, and you're into modern art, I highly recommend stopping by the European Museum of Modern Art. In my opinion, it's well worth the 9 Euro entry fee.
Never heard the names of any of the artists here but I will whole heartedly recommend this museum to everyone who has even the slightest inclination towards art. You will be seeing some of the best works on art this side of the century. Hundreds of paintings each vying for your respect. The realism in these paintings is beyond description. Can't post pics as that would be against artists who have worked so hard to create mesmerising pieces of work.
This is a Must see when you get to visit Europe. The best artists of the Century and the best collection of figurative art ever. Along with ARC from USA, MEAM exhibit in its entirety all you want or wish to see in art.
I found this place by surprise out of the Picasso Museum. Not really knowing what to expect I went in and found out beautiful piece of contemporary art. A first glance, you might think you're looking at pictures but these are definitely paintings. The museum is medium sized but it's definitely worth seeing. On top of that, since only a few people are visiting it, you'll have all the time you want to admire each of portraits. I highly recommend going there when in Barcelona!
Fantastic space for an art museum. The collection that was in at time of our visit was spectacular; many paintings just like photos and not what expected from "Modern Art". Definitely worth a visit as not expensive and doesn't take all day to go around the exhibition.
Small museum, almost anonimously situated in a quiet alley, next to Picasso's. It's collection shows an -for me, and I have seen quite a number of art museums world wide - unprecedented and astonishing collection of intimate and meaningful modern portraits and sculptures, almost every one touching the heart. Quite a few of them are made with so much precision that one doubts whether one is looking at photography. Thank you, MEAM, for showing this truly enriching experience. You can certainly compete with your neighbour. Best, Jouke Amsterdam
Breath taking ... Refreshing , beautifull , inspiring ... A must visit
Loved it! The exhibition contains a huge collection of art from the roman epoch to modernism. You'll also find interior design pieces from the 19th century and stories and lots of information about the development of the art scene of Barcelona and how the art scenes of other countries influenced the local artists. It's also worthwhile to lend an audio guide.
Very interesting. I recommend the guide. He was very talkative and made the tour very enjoyable. Would go back, as there is much more to see.
Beautiful museum with contemporary artists, some very impressive realist paintings and sculptures. The building is beautiful, with a small patium in the entrance, and the programme with classic concerts , blues, and magic shows is unique!! They also have some classes of painting and sculpture that looks very interesting... its just ten meters from the Picasso museum and totally worthed to get in!
Lots of photorealism going on here, but each piece is still uniquely captivating, so I was able to spend a decent part of the afternoon here even though the museum isn't huge. €9 entry fee is a bit steep compared to some of the other museums in the city, but I found it to be well worth it. Probably one of my favorite museums overall.
A beautifully restored 18th century palace is a divine backdrop for a phenomenal collection of modern art. The contrast of controversial, inspirational, provocative, "imediate/live art" set against stunning old world architecture ... the juxtaposition enhances the experience. * I found MEAM far more moving, exciting and inspirational than the Picasso Museum. It's a hidden gem.
One floor is temporary exhibitions and the other two are permanent. The museum has sculpture and paintings. There are some beautiful architectural features as well and various events such as live music performance. Highly recommended.
