Hidden gem. Excellent collection of rocks, fossils and porcelain. Outstanding. Only marred by silly biased remarks about The British Empire. Too much focus on it's failings in writing, whilst, curiously, displaying it's achievements. What about China and Japan? No derogatory comments about them who are equally guilty of past crimes against humanity and yet the museum is full of their creations.

Lovely building and great old artworks. Not impressed with the contemporary TV presentation of a woman in a painting suit and ribbons attached dancing around, not appropriate with such beautiful pieces from history imo, but the rest is amazing Parking: Didn't drive to it

Very nice museum. Loved the Asian porcelain exhibition and Egyptian exhibition (although this one has very outdated interactive kiosks and I never managed to learn what the "flattened toad" thing was in the Afterlife section). Shop has a lot of very interesting things though they're almost exclusively either Bristol-related or exhibion-related stuff - I was hoping for a magnet with the museum's name. it took me about 2 hours to go pretty carefully through the Asian porcelain, paintings and Egyptian exhibition. I'd recommend reserving a whole day if you want to go through the whole thing with a fine comb.

Fantastic afternoon spent exploring the museum. Didn't do the art exhibit, so entry was free. Lots to see and learn. Something for everyone, Egypt, Prehistory, Wildlife displays, art galleries and glass/ ceramics etc. Our teens maintained interest, but younger children may get bored with some areas. Didn't check out the area for young children, but it looked well occupied with happy youngsters.

Went to see the Grayson Perry ‘Art Club’ exhibition which was amazing by itself, but to have all the other exhibitions to see as you meander through is fantastic value. Free entry but we were more than happy to buy tickets to support this. Everyone there, young and old, seemed to really be enjoying it. There is a cafe as well and the food looked great!

We were really impressed with Bristol Museum & Art gallery. We visited with our 6 and 8 year old daughters and spent a couple of hours. I could have spent longer there, but there's currently a heatwave happening and the heat was clearly getting to the kids! They enjoyed looking at the Egyption gallery, the British and World animals (and of course the gift shop) and the Grason Perry exhibition on the ground floor was excellent. Would definitely recommend, with or without kids.

Beautiful gorgeous museum, free entry, has a cafe, very clean, air conditioned and well maintained. Many historic items to explore.

Visited peak of summer with 4 kids aged from 6 to 11. All the kids loved it! Came away with a fascination for fossils, dinosaurs, geology & gems & Romans and Grayson Perry’s Art Club showing artists perspectives during the pandemic was captivating. Free. Local parking easily available.

We adored our visit to Bristol Museum. There's so much to see, listen to, read and interact with there. It's such a culturally diverse museum with such a modern take on so many topics regarding our world's history. Couldn't recommend it enough and I'll definitely be visiting again!

Wonderful exhibition on currently about colonialism in Kenya - modern photos and photos from the archive. Definitely recommend seeing it while it is still there! They have so many amazing exhibits, and also some events, like concerts by candlelight which I've just been to - stunning.

Loved the Grayson Perry art club exhibition, spread / hidden amongst the regular exhibits

I took the opportunity to visit while waiting for someone with a hospital appointment. Stuffed full of interesting items. I particularly liked the Bristol tapestry, as it combined my interest in textile art and the history of Bristol. The display of fossilised sea dragons also very interesting, as was the mineral display. If the opportunity for a repeat visit before the CAZ charge comes into force, then seeing the other exhibits I didn't have time to see today would be good.

I liked this museum and art gallery. Lovely building, entry was free and the Grayson Perry art club exhibits were fun. The museum felt a wee bit old fashioned ..... not necessarily a bad thing, but it tried to cover many topics and art movements in a smallish space, so felt like a highlights tour of history rather than an in depth analysis. Not sure about the large number of stuffed animals though ...... this definitely felt like an old school approach and possibly not creating the right preservation message for future generations.

A lovely museum that has a variety of exhibitions going on. I really enjoy my time here every time I come! The natsuke exhibition was really incredible and the videos showing how they're made were very educational and engaging! A very accesible place as well if that's something you're worried about! If you have a free day, I definitely recommend coming here!

Absolutely great attraction for kids, free of charge also. Coffee is well worth the price in the café. Egypt side of it was great and also everything else. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Can’t recommend it enough.

A fine art collection as well as an excellent natural history collection including some fossils. On the bottom section you also have the history of ancient Egypt and Asyria. The building itself is very grand and impressive with huge hanging lights and a strong sense of space. Volunteers and workers quite nice though sometimes very busy and noisy. It also has some fine old maps of Bristol and a shop.

Great place....and very honest, especially so with Bristol, to the founding of the Museum.

No geral, 8/10.

Such a beautiful museum. Very well laid out, and breath taking art work section. A definite must for visiting Bristol ♡ I wish I had taken more pictures! Also I didn't realise you are asked do you want to make a donation that that means the ticket price... otherwise I would have made a better donation. I was expecting the tickets to be paid seperate. I will make one seperate. Thank you for a wonderful time

Went to see Grayson Perry’s Art Club exhibition, had a great Wednesday afternoon. Staff at the front door were super helpful and chatty, and I liked how you booked time slots to spread visitors out - it’s for Covid but actually it just makes the visitor experience better because it’s not as crowded. I’ve seen queues outside on weekends but on a weekday we went straight in. You can book a free time slot or pay a donation online, it’s amazing we have access to brilliant culture from £0 upwards. The exhibition was spread out around the museum, with most of it on the ground floor and some other pockets elsewhere on the upper floor. I didn’t mind this as I don’t have mobility issues, but I did hear other people having some concerns about steps. There were some fab pieces that made me think, and reflected feelings that I’d had about lockdown, and I was blown away by the artistic talent that the British public has. The museum cafe is fine, good range of cakes and coffee, I didn’t look at meals or savouries this time. While we didn’t visit it this time, there’s a kids’ area that my 3 year old daughter loves, alongside Dino skeletons upstairs, so she enjoys a trip to the museum as well. Remember your pound coin for the locker if you have wet coats or big bags, the locker eats the coin and doesn’t return it, so trolley tokens are no good and who carries coins nowadays?? Overall a lovely trip, we been lots of times before and will return many more times. Good work Bristol Museum.

Very diverse collection of historical assets, unknowingly spent 2 hours plus browsing through most of the exhibits.

Visited today to see Grayson's art club exhibits. Definitely worth the trip. Laid out well in dedicated areas and with some exhibits among the general museum things. It was so nice seeing all the items that were on the TV show. 10/10

Went to see Grayson Perry Exhibition some was hidden amongst artifacts in the museum so following the trail meant looking closer at other art. GP Exhibition was brilliant and the commentary by each exhibit was so uplifting and often made me tearful. Cafe was reasonable but one member of staff less so. Staff in the exhibit areas very helpful. Shop expensive but lovely items.

A great collection to view for young and old and all tastes. From dinosaurs to fine art you will all find something of interest.

A fascinating collection. Modern, Pre-Raphaelite and some interesting other art works along with a less spectacular collection of minerals and fossils. When we visited there was an exhibition of Japanese and Chinese art which included some of the best netsuke I have ever seen. Worth checking what exhibitions are on before you visit. Snack bar reasonable and good quality.

Such a lovely 2 hours spent at the Museum. Free entry but you can donate if you want. I had a look at the Japanese Netsuke exhibition, which was beautiful. I learned some very interesting facts about Japanese and Chinese mythology and culture. Highly recommend. Also saw the Chinese ceramics part, English glass and some of the paintings on floor 2. Definitely plan for a long visit if you want to see everything. Lovely staff, great gift shop. 1 pound (non-refundable) for lockers.

Great museum to visit. Visitors could explore archeology, geology and art including local artist Banksy. Admission is free and there is a spacious cafe.

Really cool place, loads of cool art and stuff to find out. The art was particularly of interest, they have art ranging from renaissance era and maybe older to modern, from all around the world, including photography and at the moment the bristol photo exhibition is on, unfortunately I missed this but want to go back to see it. Would be a great day out for the family, lots of cool stuff for kids and adults to enjoy.

Fantastic museum, a definite must-visit in Bristol. Much larger than expected with a good selection of exhibits ranging from natural history to ancient Egypt and paintings. Entry is free, but you do have to book online due to Covid. We did this the night before and there was plenty of availability, even though we were visiting on a Saturday in the summer holidays. The museum was not too busy, social distancing markers were in place and there was plenty of hand sanitiser available. Some of the interactive elements are unavailable, but for the most part these have been replaced with QR codes that allow you to access the information on your phone.
