🗣️ Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: Opiniões
The Gardener has been my one of my favorite museums since the first time I visited Boston. When I lived there I visited often, especially in the wintertime when the courtyard full of greenery and blooms is a most welcome site. This house is much more than the eccentricities of a gregarious woman who collected fine art. Her taste ranges from the subtle to the outrageous, and from miniscule size to grandiose. Everyone will find something here to love and much to marvel over. Go if you can!
Este museu foi fantástico. O pátio (interno) é absolutamente impressionante. Tantas flores vibrantes. Era apenas US $ 20, e valeu a pena!
I loved this museum which feels very much like you've been invited to wander around someone's (very large) house that just happens to be full of stunning artwork. The fact that none of the art is labelled adds to the experience. You can enjoy the pieces without having to feel like your swotting for an exam. (There are comprehensive details of each piece available online just in case you want to know more.) There are a few pieces about our late hostess dotted around. One mentions how she made a trip to Venice and bought a masterpiece. As you do. Clearly there was no nipping off to IKEA for Swedish meatballs and a very non limited edition print for Isabella. The rooms are themed to some extent, but not slavishly so, which makes a welcome change to most galleries which can sometimes be overly curated. It was refreshing to have pieces of art from different periods mixed together and positioned by an admirer rather than a gallery technician. No offence to curators but it creates a natural intimacy, that I suspect is exactly what was intended. The building is a star attraction in itself At its heart is a magnificent central courtyard that was bathed in light when I visited, the foliage awash of greens reds and whites. Again, like the placing of the artworks, it felt very organic as opposed to being overly stylised. Photos cannot do justice to this wonderful space that was evidently styled on a Moroccan riad. I also loved how the acoustics changed between the rooms with wood and tiled flooring, adding to the dynamics of the setting. Finally, there is a small outside garden, library and a restaurant that is worth a visit in itself. The penne with chorizo and clams was fabulous. This museum is an absolute delight, and I cannot wait to visit again.
Fabulous collection of art from many of the masters. The setting is the real attraction as the Courtyard and rooms are a good reason to spend a few hours touring.
Had a wonderful time walking thru all 3 floors of this palace. The Cafe was unexpectedly awesome! I know its not cool for the museum, but the fact that the 13 pieces are still visibly gone is part of the allure for the ISGM. I would buy a lottery ticket to be invited to some of the places not open to the public (4th flr, Chinese room, etc).
Great couple of hours! Make sure you use the free audio tour on your phone! So much great information. I loved the stories especially learning about the world's largest single property heist! I think I ended up being there 3 hours. So beautuful. 20 bucks and really worth it!
The most beautiful museum I’ve ever seen! The collection is amazing and the audio tours make it personable and give it life. Get your tickets in advance! You’ll need at least 2 hours to get through the palace. Also, watch the Netflix documentary “This is a Robbery” based on the world’s biggest art theft that took place at this museum.
This is a great museum! We checked in with our online tickets in the New Wing. There is a free self service coat room that was easy to use. We then picked up a map. There is a restroom in the bottom floor of the New Wing. Even these were artsy! To enter the Palace there is a glass corridor that passes through the Achtmeyer Terrace Garden and the Jordan Garden. Since it was winter, these were not open, but I think they might be in the summer. The Palace is has all the art exhibits, with the beautiful courtyard in the center. There is also an audio tour regarding the heist that we enthusiastically listened to. The first area we entered was the East Cloister, which circles around the courtyard with the connecting North Cloister and West Cloister. These provided great views of the courtyard. At the end of the West Cloister is the tiny Worthington Street Lobby. From here we went to the Spanish Cloister. Here we saw a variety of art, with both oil paintings and sculptures. Next, we went to the Chinese Loggia overlooking Monk’s Garden. We then saw the beautiful Spanish Chapel. The Fenway Gallery has more modern art and it is pretty much the only place in the museum with this type of art. From here we accessed the Yellow Room, presumably named after its yellow wallpaper. The blue room is also very similar. It was in this room that we saw our first stolen painting. Or rather, we didn’t see the painting. It is an empty frame. The Passage & Lobby has a medieval feel to it and it leads into the Vatichino, where we saw real swords. The final gallery on the first floor was the Macknight Room with some watercolor paintings. We then traveled upstairs to the second floor. This houses the Early Italian room and the Raphael Room, both of which were very majestic. The Short Gallery was under construction at this time, but I hope to come back when it reopens. After this came the Little Salon, which looked like a ballroom or party room. From there we entered the ginormous Tapestry Room. This was one of my favorite rooms and offered a great view of the courtyard. Next up came the Dutch Room, where most of the art was stolen on the heist. It still amazes me how no one noticed the thieves stealing artwork, especially from the giant frames. From here we travelled up to the final and third floor. We viewed the Veronese Room and the Titian Room with some very interesting art. Next, we entered the Long Gallery, which was indeed very long. At the end of this was the Chapel, with its beautiful stained glass. We then went to the final room through a hallway that looked a lot like a secret passage. The Gothic Room was really cool, and had some giant books. The museum offers scavenger hunts so we spend about 15 more minutes finishing that up and we headed downstairs, back to the New Wing. We viewed the Café G menu, but that was a little adventurous for us. Peep has sometime we will come back and try some food there, but for now we were good. We decided to check out the gift shop, and found some cool postcards and an interesting book. While we didn’t solve any mysteries, we still had a great time and I can’t wait to come back!
This house museum is absolutely worth visiting. The cost of the ticket is totally worth the visit. I recommend buying tickets directly online. The visit lasts approximately 1 hour, 1 hour and a half. You will surely be dazzled by the amount of artwork that is inside. It is a unique visit of its kind. The museum also houses a bar/restaurant and a shop.
Simply wonderful. Grab your headset and immerse yourself in the excellent audio presentations by the museum curators. It rivals many museums in Europe. I really enjoyed the approach to display. Unique. Wait time 1 hr+ … More
Pro tip: bring headphones. Now the museum has an audio tour which is awesome because unlike a traditional museum, the artwork is unlabeled to reflect how Isabella Stewart Gardner enjoyed her home. I listened to a couple pieces from the audio tour and it had some very cool inside info to share! Such as the chair at her desk was from a gondola! And Isabella was carried in the chair in her home.
Beautiful jewel box of a museum. There are three floors of galleries in the historic building (Palace) and one gallery on the second floor of the new building that isn’t on the map. If you don’t see maps out, just ask, the staff is friendly. Tip: there are no labels on the art, so bring your phone fully charged and have headphones for the audio guide, it is very helpful. Tip 2: The gift shop has a guide book for sale that is really nice. It isn’t an index of the art, it is more the story of the museum and Mrs. Gardner.
Fantastic collection and space. More than a museum, one feels like visiting an old, rich relative living in the Venice of the late XIX century. It is an spectacular palace, with wonderful spaces and decorations. The collection is wide-ranging and generous in stunning master pieces, as well as lesser but equally curious artifacts. It gets very busy. Prior reservation is a must. With the afternoon sun it was even prettier.
The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston is an absolute gem with a gorgeous courtyard inside. The paintings and other artwork are priceless. There is a cafe where visitors can get a sitdown meal. If your name is Isabella or the day you visit is your birthday, your visit is free. Many local colleges have membership so if you are a student or staff at one, you may be able to get in free or with a discount. Peaceful place to relax.
Went with a Boston local who went there at least 3 times, very nice to go with my PhD candidate friend who knew a lot about the place! The security was also well knowledgeable about the museum, it's a great place to take tons of photos and look at art and plants! I got in with a student discount, and was well worth the visit. She has documents from many famous people from the Era.
Such a small jewel with great personality. The museum feels like you have been invited by a (ultra rich) friend to check her extensive collection. The collection itself is eclectic but the way that the collection matches the mansion where it is hosted is probably the best part. You should plan on spending about 2 hours here and then go to the Museum of Fine Arts for the afternoon.
First time at the museum. I loved it. I must definitely visit again and take my time to go through all the exhibits. It was a great place to spend the first part of my birthday.
Had a wonderful time at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum! It was incredible to see all the items Isabella Stewart had accumulated and each room had its own unique personality and story. I believe that on the first Thursday of each month, admission to here is free from 3-9pm so I would definitely recommend checking it out then if you have the time
beautiful museum, the staff was so nice and helpful. you will have to leave any bags/jackets/drinks you have with coat check as only purses are allowed in, but the coat check is free which is good. I wish there were guides but I understand lack of staff. I had such a great time today, Gardner was such an inspiration and a visionary. Thank you to the staff that told us some really interesting tidbits about Isabella and her life! We will definitely be back.
First time visiting here and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The actual building is just as much part of the visit as the many pieces of art and historical artifacts are . I was not aware of the $500 million art heist from 1990 and it was amazing to see the empty picture frames still in place. Well laid out and easy to see everything considering it’s over three floors .
The building is nice when you walk in but as soon as you hang your coat and go to the museum it takes your breath away. I was in awe the whole time. Bring head phones and your phone and you can access the talking portion on your own in each room. It was just incredible, the history and the everything in the museum. Took a few hours as I was by myself and strolled through each room. The only wait I had was I did not realize I had to purchase a ticket ahead of time.
What a collection of fine art to placed on display in such a manor of having a living courtyard set in the center of it all. There are 3 stories or floors of her collection and some are just all inspiring. Be sure to follow the guidelines set forth by the curators of the museum.
I love coming here to rest my soul and my brain and catch up on all the important things in life sometimes it can be hard to get away from the city but this is the perfect place to do that. There’s the perfect amount of natural greens and trees and foliage and flowers and not to mention the beautiful art and the architecture of the building.
We went on a Wednesday noon and was allowed to get in, even though our online booked ticket says a later time. The collection was really beautiful. It was very crowded though.
Museu extremamente bonito !! Super legal e bonito. Altamente recomendo e vale a pena visitar !!
I used a pass from BPL and got a reduced admission. The museum is a nice mix of old and modern with the two buildings. The highlight of my visit was the courtyard in all its spring glory. Also a b&w photo exhibit of self portraits. I encourage you to go. I know I'll go again.
Quartos pequenos, raios escuros.
Ame o Museu Isabella Stewart Gardner!
It was great, I loved all the art work. It was part of an art heist which is cool. The attention to detail that Isabella put into each room was quite incredible! Some down sides would be that the top floor is closed for staff or artists, I believe, and I think that if the public was able to go to the top floor we would have a great view. The major down side for me was that it was audio based information guided tour from your phone, and the audio only went over a few details and some major highlights while I really wanted to know more details which was also a bummer for us because we both had low battery going to the museum.
This has to be one of the most beautiful places I've seen/visited. Starting with the architecture, the whole place transports you to a Venetian palace, the central garden is incredible, serene, beautiful, and breathtaking, no matter where you are you'll get a different glimpse and notice something new. The art collection is unbelievable, each room is amazingly thought through. Do not miss it, make sure to buy tickets in advance, you will.not regret it. P.S. amazing gift shop, you can get nice replicas from the pieces you saw and in some cases, you can customize them.
A true Venetian palace - the individual rooms are very interesting in and of themselves. We spent about two hours admiring the artwork, statues, and the central courtyard. There were a number of details that I did not notice the first time I visited a few years back - all of the books, some of the smaller works, and the interesting variety of plants in the courtyard. There is something for every art lover here.
Beautiful museum. The Titian exhibit in the new building was wonderful. The older section (the house) is absolutely stunning. The central garden is out of a fairy tale it’s so beautiful. The rooms are magnificent. Just when you feel that you’ve seen the most beautiful room, you walk up a stair case to see an even more beautiful room. A hidden gem and well worth the price of admission.
We didn't make our reservation in advance but luckily got 2 remaining tickets 1 hour before our visit to Isabella Stewart Garden Museum. The staff was super friendly and supportive to help us finish our booking via phone. The price was $20 and it took about 2 hours + to enjoy the entire exhibition so it's totally worth it. The museum itself is a castle with a garden in the center and it was brilliant & magnificent. The collection is pretty various and the maintenance is really in high standard. There is also a cafe located in the new building which is a perfect place for an afternoon break.
This is a great museum to visit. It's very manageable. The attraction s are not only the paintings but the building itself. The courtyard is gorgeous. I would recommend spending about 2 hours here. They also have a great gift shop so don't miss it on your way out. There's also a cafe. It gets a little busy during lunch but you can eat outside in the courtyard if you would like.
