Walking around the outside is magical, we didn’t even go in, the building itself is incredible! Lots of spaces to enjoy right on the water and take in this iconic landmark.
Well worth the visit - I was staying in San Sebastian and took the bus from there - only an hour each way and well worth it. Great museum and Bilbao also a very nice town. My tip - purchase tickets online to avoid the queues.
Great place, perhaps the best Guggenheim around the world. The construction of this museum was a breaking point for Bilbao's city. Extremely recommended if you visit this town...
The building itself is the star of the show. The galleries are set out on 3 levels. The artworks are large so it is surprisingly easy to get round them all. Level 2 was closed when we visited while a new exhibition "Motion" was being installed. Check opening hours as these vary through the year. Buy tickets online in advance for the best price
We were lucky enough to be here for the auto exhibit, brilliant curation of all things travel. History of technology, architecture, culture, socialisation, art all displayed around an impressive display of vehicles from 1900s to present day. As for the architecture of the museum itself, so impressive, organic, cocooning, futuristic. Loved it.
Just great! When we went there was an expo with the evolution of cars from carriages to modern cars.. the puppy was amazing as well.. the other exhibitions were also lovely!!
The building feels dizzy! This museum is fantastic, full of interactive art that makes the entire experience surprising and unexpected. It’s a bit tricky to move around but that’s part of the charm. We were lucky enough to see a car exhibition and we saw the first ever invented car. It was without a doubt one of the best museums I’ve ever been.
The Guggenheim is a combination of The Broad inside the Disney concert hall in Los Angeles California. Great museum if you happen to be in Bilbao or traveling around there. Make sure you bring some headphones and scan the QR code, they have English audio guides for the installments.
It is beautiful and one of the most modern Building from outside. You can take photos from any direction, it will look beautiful and awesome. You can spend hours enjoying the beautiful location around this museum. I got invitation from Deusto university to visit the museum. It has three floors to visit, during my visit second floor was not open for visitors as some work was going on that floor. Fist floor right hand side is the biggest gallery. It contains long and big steel structures, which can stand on floor without any support due to their shape. My first impression was not so good, when I entered these structures, as there was nothing inside these long and big structures. But when I reached the last gallery, and read the description that they can stand on earth without any support and installation, it was wow experience. It is based on the principles of THE MATTER OF TIME by Richard Serra. The portion on left side of the museum" s first floor was most interesting for me. It is theatre, which plays movies. Being a Indian, it was proud and amazing experience to me that a movie based on the works of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and his institution Shantiniketan was playing at that time and people from different countries were watching it with interest. Kudos to the Otholith group for their work on Rabindranath Tagore. Third floor was having galleries on mostly work of modern art and painting. It was not interesting for me as it has many random works and then explains their description, just boring for me. The exhibitions changes with time. May be when you visit, you have some interesting that time. Overall my experience is that Guggenheim museum is beautiful and interesting from outside. If you have extra money and time or invitation like me, you may consider to go inside.
Absolutely stunning architecture. And gorgeous outdoor displays. I just wish I’d had more time to visit the inside and spend time with the exhibits. (The company I was with were more interested in satisfying their belly hunger) Next time I’ll be coming with at least a day to spend here!
Veio aqui na segunda -feira de manhã. Estava relativamente vazio.
It is rare these days for one of the world's premier destinations to live up to such hyped expectations. The Guggenheim stunningly proved the exception. I would recommend 2 visits if you have time, one day time, the other in the evening, to fully appreciate the contrast. While certainly not overpriced for what it offers inside, there is a great deal of enjoyment from circling the whole building from the outside. While u can book in advance and beat the queues, waiting time is typically no more than 10 minutes, even on the more busier times of early evening.
The building is fantastic, the story from Dan Brown is in my mind and we could touch the emotion. And even if you don’t really like the modern art, the car’s exposition was fantastic!!:
Thoroughly enjoyed my trip and exploration of the museum. It has been an ambition of mine to get there and I finally made it. I was not disappointed. What a wonderful design and experience ❤️
The creation of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was the result of an exceptional collaboration between the Basque Administrations and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. Today, more than two decades after its inauguration in October 1997, the Museum is a reality that has exceeded the most ambitious expectations at an artistic and cultural level, and has contributed, in an extraordinary way, to urban, economic and and social of the city of Bilbao and its immediate surroundings. The Museum, which since its inception has been an element of transformation and resilience, remains firm and faithful to this essence when addressing the future challenges that arise in the current context on a global and local scale and for the institution's own activity. . Although it is true that the pandemic has disrupted mobility, human relations, social relations and the economic context, it has also served as a time for reflection, to look inside the personal and institutional sphere. In these circumstances and as in previous stages, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao has drawn up its Strategic Plan based on an analysis of the internal and external context, which has allowed it to identify the challenges for the 2021-2023 strategic period and the essential and current strengths that has to deal with this period. It aspires to inspire and align all interest groups, bringing together the unity that exists around the relevance of the Museum and the pride that comes from belonging to it, contributing to it, interacting with it or simply visiting it. The purpose of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is defined as follows: Inspire and open new perspectives through art and its values.
The building itself is a masterpiece that deserves all the attention. There are also amazing exhibitions. The tickets have very affordable prices and children up to 18 get to enter for free. We bought tickets on the internet, so we avoided cues.
The Guggenheim was an engaging museum for us and our 10 year old son. The architecture inside and out is a wonder to behold all on its own. The modern art was large in volume and well presented. The special exhibition on architecture and cars I thought was going to be predictable but provided a preview of the future and transportation opportunities.
Interesting place with different exhibitions. We were lucky to visit the recent one dedicated to cars and motion, and found some rural cars like Ferrari 250 gto, James Bond’s Aston Martin (Goldfinger), F1 race car Also, museum offers discounts for children, students (up to 26yo) etc The building itself looks impressive and huge.
An amazing architectural gem. A museum that needs to be put on the "Places You need to see before you die" kind of list. Get in early to avoid crowds, then get out to eat pintxos a couple of blocks away
Great modern museum with mind blowing architecture. Particularly enjoyed the temporary exhibition “Motion Autos Art Architecture” which showcases beautiful historic motor cars which have shaped the automotive industry.
Norman Fosters private classic car collection. A fantastic range of amazing amd iconic cars. Excellent terrace restaurant for lunch if you time your visit right. The museum is cool uncrowded and airey. Down bybthe river side.
If you visit Bilbao the Museum Guggenheim is an absolute must. Simlpy spectacular! There is something for everybody. Chlidren will also love it. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is unique.
Very unique architecture and loved to hear that the famous puppy is regularly planted in different ways with plants. Loved the exhibition on motors and movement in Summer 2022. Best check which temporary exhibition they have as this was the highlight for me. Also liked some of the installations on the ground floor The permanent modern art on the top floor wasn't for me, but depends on your personal preferences.
Great museum with a fantastic car exhibit on at the moment (July 2022). Thoroughly enjoyed the ORHorizon exhibit as well - some lovely slow TV on North West India.
Beautiful building and architecture. Amazing temporary exposition called "motions", with mythic cars and the linked designs related on cars. Inspiring cultural trip.
Had to wait a little in line, but it went faster than I expected. The museum is huge! I didn't look up the museum, so I didn't know what to expect, so I was quite surprised seeing all kinds of art (from paintings to extremely exclusive cars (1 in the world!)). Definitely worth a visit!
Nós comemos no bistrô.
What an awesome museum to visit. Did not disappoint. The café offered great food which we took advantage of to take a break during our day and returned back to the museum so we could enjoy the tour of the automobiles. The audio is a must or you will miss out on so much. Bring your headphones!
This is a great space the building its self is worth the visit and great exhibition space. We booked online 16 euros I believe 18 on the door Bilbao its self is a great city to walk round.
Amazing museum, every part is excellent. The architecture of the building is as amazing as the installations . When we were there the exhibition was Motion AUTOS ART ARCHITECTURE and the cars were beautiful and rare.
It’s the Guggenheim. There is nothing more to say. Absolutely must do. The architecture of the museum itself is spectacular, but also the works from f.e. Anselm Kiefer. Everything is accessible for people with wheelchairs and there are plenty of benches to have a break. It is fully air conditioned. Don’t forget to see the Puppy from Jeff Koons outside we spent a bit over 2 hours there. You can have an audioguide by scanning the QR code. So bring your EarPods! At the time we’ve been there the “motion” exhibition was presented with plenty of cars.
The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a beautiful designed museum and the outside is part of the art experience of seeing how the light shines over the building during the day. The design by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry is a masterpiece. A must see is the Richard Serra installation, The Matter of Time on the ground floor with a viewpoint on the 1st floor.
Unique shaping and design defines this museum at the heart of Bilbao. It is tidy, clean, spacious and with good indications. It changes the content to be displayed. On-line booking is cheaper than on-site. <18 years old do not pay. Prices are ok. Unlike other museums in the basque country, child-entertainment not available: you need to entertain yourself your kids while walking the museum
A wonderful building and some great art on show with a few interactive pieces. We found it simple and cheaper to order the tickets online. No queuing then just present your online ticket and you are in. Highly recommended.
